Actually the mono doesn’t add any action it actually make it sink
William Isaac (24 days ago)
Jake Chimiak mono floats and keeps it off the bottom I promise you

What's the whole point of the leader when you have people Using HIGHER LOWER & SAME pound test than whats spooled??
Hella Bread (1 month ago)
Ross Best depends on what conditions you’re fishing light leader when fishing smaller baits or downsizing for picky fish heavy leader for bigger baits and rigs or fishing around heavy cover

Howdy ! Just picked up everything I need for to throw a Carolina rig and with your tips I have a good feeling about it. Was thinking at bout using a Chigger craw as a tip. One questions for y'all, is there anything I can do to get the plastic to suspend a bit more then mono will allow? Is there some sort of floater that I can tie on the hook end?

Great video!

Why do people insist mono floats when we see video after video where mono and fluoro both behave identically underwater?
Wired2Fish (1 year ago)
Hi Dennis, they certainly look similar, but nylon monofilament does float while fluorocarbon sinks based on its material density. It may not seem like much on a short shank of line, but it's noticeable to enough anglers to where mono is preferred for topwater applications, and fluorocarbon the choice for bottom contact presentations.

sorry for the rookie question but why does the line test/poundage matter on the clarity of the water.
Wired2Fish (1 year ago)
Never a double question in this fishing sport, and all rules are broken. The general rule-of-thumb is use lighter line in clear water to minimize visibility to the fish. Equally important is the fact that lighter lines have less an impact on lure action than heavy line, so you'll get more natural action to the lure the lighter the line you fish. This can make big different in clear water where fish rely heavily on vision.

I love how the big fish swallowed the bait and he reached his whole fist in its mouth to get it out! :)

Whats your weight to depth ratio?
Richard Botellio (2 years ago)
Not only are Carolina rigs a good way to catch fish but for shore fisherman its s great way to figure out the structure snd cover of a particular area pretty quick. With a good sensitive rod, good line and practice you can tell what the bottom composition is and if there is any cover in the area.

Thank you for the refresher course lot of good information and great footage.

What bait was he using?

Michael Neal seems like such a good guy. Great angler as well, especially on ledges. One of my favorite pros

Thank you !
Aikidood (3 years ago)
I just started and only have a 7' rod, would that do? And how long the leader line should be with a 7' rod? Thank you.
White Tiger (1 year ago)
Aikidood rod length doesnt matter. The length of the leader varies depending on the depth ur fishing. Shallow water no longer than 2 feet. deep water with not much to get hung on u can have a longer leader. But i prefer ab a 20" leader but make sure the bait is straight on the hook.
Efface (2 years ago)
yea it should work fine, maybe try a 10" leafer5
Robert Haeberle (3 years ago)
so am I hearing this correctly +Wired2Fish, that the angler is using 20lb flouro as his main line and then using 15lb mono for his leader that's attached to his bait?
Edwin Nah (5 months ago)
There's absolutely no need to use a mono leader. Regardless of using floro or mono the bait isn't gonna float off the bottom.
White Tiger (1 year ago)
Wired2Fish exactly bcuz u will get hung a lot . It takes about 4 or 5 mins to rig another one. Thats the only pain about carolina rigging
Wired2Fish (3 years ago)
+Robert Haeberle Yes. This is fairly common with carolina rigs. If the bait hangs and you have to break off, you will usually just break off the plastic or the leader and keep the swivel and weight.

Great video and footage.  I still use this old tactic to this day for covering allot of water to help with locating feeding bass.  Then go to other techniques when I hone in on an active school.   Good stuff!
Was this shot on Lake Eufaula?

+Shane Durrance Yes it was.
