What if you upgrade your Dropbox but the other side doesn’t? Then you’re screwed. I upgraded to 1 TB but my GC animator only has 8 GB on his Dropbox. Guess what? Dropbox requires him to upgrade also!!! That won’t fly. Leaving Dropbox
Jess Ampel (1 month ago)
Yep.. 8GB for free is not much indeed (Should be 2Gb). Good luck finding an alternative.

I accidentally saved some sensitive files into a shared dropbox folder on my PC because the stupid desktop program made the dropbox folder my default 'save as' location. This folder was created by someone else (admin) as a shared folder who gave me edit access. I tried to delete those files on my PC and also online. Will the folder owner be able to view/restore those files?
Joanne Domanico (7 months ago)
Sharing a Folder with View Only capability is great, however how do I restrict the viewer from going "up" in the hierarchy and see MY OTHER folders on my dropbox? Currently the rest of my dropbox is an open book. Darned if I can figure out how to restrict their access to the folder that I am sharing with them
dottotech (7 months ago)
I think you must have a setting wrong, are you certain? If that is the case reach out to Dropbox support, something is amiss.

Hey, Dotto - I have a DropBox which has about 60 photos in a file on it. I wish to share this with a couple club members - when I send them a link from DB with VIEW only, everything seems to go OK - they can get in, ck.out the photos they want. Now I've found that while at DB, this person can also end a SHARE to another friend (not mine) with EDIT abilities!!!! Now, that person can send his/her friends SHARE emails, and the list goes on. After I found this was happening, I had to delete that file and start over. How can this be prevented? Send a reply here: [email protected] .... TKX.

Nice video. I wanted to ask - I and my editor share same account on our systems. I have uploaded 300gb video files on dropbox. So, can he use these files without downloading the 300gb files simply by using it through the folder or they will have to download ( or sync first) to use these video files?

Someone sent me a file request. I clicked the big blue button. I saw a folder which is supposed to have MULTIPLE folders inside that folder. When I double click that folder, nothing happens. Im supposed to see multiple folders, I do not. So far, the product is horrible.

Steve, thanks for the info, however the links created to share a folder with pictures, allow the other person to see all content on my dropbox. WhY? any help????
Terry Benzie (1 year ago)
"Copy Dropbox Link" isn't shown from my dropdown options. In fact, from my Mac, it appears there isn't a way to directly share folders any longer.
Linda Gray (1 year ago)
I can use the file request function but Dropbox limits me to where I can have the file sent. I want them sent to a subfolder but the capability doesn't seem to be there...
Elizabeth Floyd (1 year ago)
Just what I was looking for - and the beard is ok by the way! A questions though: i) By sending that request to Liz, can she continuously send you files (ie. different ones relevant to your folder) or cant the link be used by her several times for different docs? The reason I'm asking this is I want to share the link with a group of people (i.e. several email addresses) so that whenever they upload a file on a project, it goes into that folder. Many thanks..
hi, dropbox has recently changed the way i can link to files and its a pain in the ass... i post 'images' and mp3 files on forums, but now instead of people being able to just see the image or hear the mp3 instantly, now i can only post a 'link'....now, this link that i post does work, however when people click on the new 'link' way of doing things whilst that link is thinking about opening, people can briefly gain access to ALL my files....just a heads up to anyone who is also pissed off about this new way of ''sharing'' files...beware.

STEVE - I often need to send or receive large numbers of photo files. Would I use this same method?
dottotech (1 year ago)
You can, save them in a folder first and share the folder.

The 20gb bandwith limit is retarded in 2016. My links used to get banned for 24hrs for crossing 20gb limit. Then GOOGLE DRIVE

Hey big guy, looks like you've really got your lighting nailed, even more than before Any chance you could do a wee tutorial on colour adjustment on Screenflow or your Mac?
Stuart Harris (1 year ago)
Thanks Steve, would be good to see how you adjust your settings Will keep an eye out - think a lot may just be trial & error
dottotech (1 year ago)
Hey Stewart, good suggestion. FYI I use WebCam settings to do my color correction, before I record. It's only the about eight dollars available at the Mac store
Jeff Coburn (1 year ago)
Have you ever looked at https://dropitto.me? I have used that before to have people send files to my DropBox, Google account, or Office 365 account. Works pretty slick. Regardless, great video as always.

Hi Steve Brilliant workshop However, if one is hosting a webinar or screen-cast and one wants to share, say, a recording with THE WORLD, and then want to monitor and record eMail addresses of those downloading or linking-to that file - how would you do it? Keep up the totally fantastic education, Blessings from the Holy Land
Harry Orenstein (1 year ago)
dottotech A big 👏 and 👍to you. You are Dotto-rific!
dottotech (1 year ago)
Thank you Harry! There're a couple of ways to do it. You can protect your video on your website or within a service like Thinkific, but there will always be a problem with asking people to register before you share content with them before you've engendered a level of trust. The concept of building email list, is at the heart of content marketing. In my opinion the combination of sharing public videos on youTube, combined with high-value webinars where you do ask people to register is a great combination.

Thanks for the video, Steve. I had no idea that Dropbox could do this. Is there any Google Drive equivalent? In a perfect world, I would love to be able to request file uploads in a Google form.

Hi Steve thanks for the video. Could you do one on iCloud Drive?
Kris Vanspauwen (1 year ago)
Hi Steve, thanks on the helpful vlog. I'm using Dropbox and Google Drive together. Google Drive we use in our family to share all photos and documents. Since I am the only one paying for extra space we started moving the whole photo archive into my drive from where I share it with the others. I'm the owner of the photos, but still the 15GB space of my wife that was used stays used although she emptied her Drive... How can I empty her Drive space? Would you be able to come up with a vlog on file sharing with Google Drive? Thx man!
Craig Herrmann (1 year ago)
Hi Steve, i know this video is focused more on file sharing in Dropbox, but my question is more about photos. I just moved away from Windows 10 and now using an Imac. Do you have any inside on how the Apple Photos app works with photos in Dropbox? I guess I'm looking to share photos from Dropbox with the Photos app. Ids that possible?

Your evolving tonsorial splendor enhances your sartorial elegance. 👍 😉. Importantly, you are adding visual gracefulness to your clear, concise teaching! Excellent! Thank you! -- Have you changed any of the technology/methods you use for producing your screencasts?
