Using Gmail Canned Responses - OMTT4

290 ratings | 10153 views
Gmail’s canned response feature will save you time and preserve your sanity. It’s the perfect tool for busy people in customer service, knowledge work, entrepreneurs, productivity lovers, freelancers and anyone who gets asked the same questions a lot. Canned responses will increase your productivity and decrease the amount of time you spend writing email.

It saves my canned resposes, but not the jpeg pictures I insert? I'm selecting "Insert Photo" and insert the pics and then save the canned respose. When selecting compose and then slecting the named canned respose, all the items appear except for the jpegs? The pictures show up as a box with no image. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I am having the same problem, have emailed to myself, copied and pasted...but can not get it to send a photo...I think this would work great for me...if I can simply figure out how to save a photo...any other ideas.

Figured it out. You have to email it yourself and then copy it and then paste it into a new compose email and then save it as a canned response and the jpeg will appear.

Filters in the new Gmail do not apply canned responses!

Hi Steve, do you know why images won't embed when I do this, written content works fine but images don't embed in my canned responses? Thank you

Check over on the Google Support Forums, I am not sure why myself. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!home

A lot of people do not like to open attachments. Having canned responses is a great tool.

Is there any way to add the canned response (or any lab for that matter) to a delegated inbox? And is there any way to save a canned response with an email in the CC or BCC?
Nick Smith (1 year ago)
Question Steve. Is there a similar option for canned responses in MS Outlook?

Hi there, I love your videos and appreciate all I have seen. I have known about gmail canned responses for a few years now and yes they are awesome and a great time savor for my business introductions and answers to those often asked questions from clients. BEWARE : One day all my canned responses disappeared, that's right ,FOREVER they are GONE. So I had to create them again. Still love gmail anyway. Now I have a word doc that I have copied all my canned responses to so the next time they disappear (and hopefully never again) I won't get that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'll just jump on over and copy and paste and be on my way to new business adventures. Maurine

Anybody knows what's happening to Evernote? Since 17 Jan 2017 when 8.0 came out I cannot open Evernote on my iPhone 6 - it crashes on launch! Is it time to escape from that ecosystem?
Jakob D (1 year ago)
dottotech yeah, I am not the only one
dottotech (1 year ago)
It has been stable on mine, have you checked on the Evernote support forums to see if others are having issues?
As always another great tip on your channel! Been using these canned responses for a long time and it has indeed saved me lots of time. Especially in my profession as an educator there are some things you have to type over and over again.

Thanks! It is a great time saver!

Could you maybe try to take a look at Goggles Gmail app for iOS devices. Is the newest version running up to be the worst version ever? Try to make a print of an email from the Gmail-APP - its impossible and I miss it 2 - 3 times each week.
dottotech (1 year ago)
Yikes, time to try a different App. I suggest giving Newton a try.

Canned responses are very useful, but I discovered a problem with Canned Responses: They are stored in the Drafts folder, and if you delete a draft your canned responses will also be deleted.
Mr. Luigi (1 year ago)
Stebnalang1 You are so right! One advantage of using a text expansion application instead of canned responses is it removes this liability. I have a folder called "email canned responses" in my text expansion app. It works for me but may not be everyone's shot of bourbon.

Great tip!

Question - Does this work with Google Inbox? I have transitioned to using Inbox instead of the traditional Gmail setup. Thanks for another great video. I like your 2017 new video lineup.
dottotech (1 year ago)
Hey Neil, thanks for the question AND Answer. We have to connect sometime soon, your PODCAST is a staple on my daily dog walk!

I just found the answer if your other viewers are interested. Under settings Google Inbox calls it "templates". It is the same thing as canned responses for Gmail. Nice! Thanks for pointing this feature out to us Steve.
