Hi Steve sad to see that “PC” political correctness has once again proved too much for common sense, regarding your quest for 1 million subscribers I would think that you deserve more than that, take care now
You didn't intend it to be political but of course there are those that will be offended if they get a hint that you might have a different political view. Different view of operating systems, search engines, cars, holiday destinations fine but hint you might have a different political opinion and all hell breaks loose.
Steve .... What do you think about a week long YouTube Boycott ? Would you be willing to ask your subscribers to refrain from watching YouTube for a week? And, not post for a week? It seems to me that this would be the most effective way to get YouTube's attention. The purpose would be to force YouTube to adopt a fair appeal procedure and to require YouTube to issue specific warnings before taking any action against a user.
The biggest channels have the most to lose.......... I'm thinking it should be done of Face Book....Face Book would love it....Google (YouTube ) would hate it..... I'm thinking....www.boycottYoutube4aweek.com....with a petition people could sign and a message board where people could express their opinions....of course... there's always Congress.... that's what got Facebook's attention... but, they overreacted...
Congratulations Steve, and Best Wishes for the continuing growth of your Channel 👍.
I did not see the Alex Jones video/vlog in question, nor the ensuing comments, so can't really speak to that apparent conundrum.
I'm certainly sorry if anything personally derogatory at all was insinuated towards you.
I have looked at the comments regarding this video, and they seem very positive ☺️.
Speaking for myself, as I've previously mentioned, most of the Tech, and certainly the Buisness aspect of your Channel are unfortunately for me, way over my head !!!
I watch, listen, learn, and enjoy, never the less.
I think I clarified that I, particularly have enjoyed the more personal videos. ie, The Boomer's, regarding Diabetes and lack of sleep, or online dating and how you and Shannon met, and so forth.
Those were also non Techy.
Did you get in any trouble over them ?!
I guess all I'm trying to say is, I think it would be ashame, if those particular subscribers to your Channel, that were in any way upset about a subject, any subject, YOU felt a need to communicate about, failed in their ability to perhaps just read, and experience a point of view that they don't necessarily agree with, and accept it for what I'm guessing it was, meant to be, you, expressing Your POV.
Something you most assuredly have EVERY right to do, without condemnation !
(For some reason, the expression, "Snowflakes" is sounding in my head!)
Anyway, I do understand their point, however I also have faith in their ability to accept an occasional "blip" in their, perhaps, overly focused on tech, brainwaves, and maybe....oh say..... ignore, move on, and look forward to your next, more to their liking video.
And maybe they could learn to accept, there ARE people in this world other than themselves, and SOME of those people are quite capable of an interest in, and a wish to hear, about a Variety of things 🤨.
In short, I do hope you don't ever feel the need to kowtow
to anyone !!!!
Sincerely, (Aunt), JaneLee 🧓 🙂
Steve, congrats on breaking through 200,000 subscribers. You're never going to please everyone so just keep doing what your doing. It's your channel and your call the on the content, editorial, etc. A little bit of controversy never hurt anyone. Stay true to you. I look forward to observing your journey well beyond one million subscribers.
OH MY GOD!!! Kidding... I'm so over the whole issue of political correctness (especially the crap we are dealing with in the U.S.) and I already understand that a massive trend in fake news, altered news, distortion of the facts, and censorship has really taken over in the mainstream and especially on the Internet. I remember when the Internet was virgin territory and trolls hadn't taken over the comments sections of everything, but that is a bygone era now and as an analyst I can see the trend continuing to go downhill more and more until commenting will really be strictly an invitation to attack someone for their opinion and not a place for discussion. Sadly, this will be the realm of my kids and I don't envy them knowing that discussion is no longer the norm, but the rarity. But enough of my rant on the subject! I have never really been a huge follower of blogs or vlogs, but I do enjoy your channel and appreciate your take on things as well as your take on the tech (whether I use it or not). I also understand your backing off of your other video (which I did not see) and playing it more mainstream and safe moving forward.
There's not a person alive who doesn't do something disagreeable to someone every now and then. Keep up the good work, Steve. Sometimes I am not interested in everything you post but I am for most of it and someone else needs the other stuff.
I have been a long time subscriber and love your content! Very informative and I did see the video in question and it never crossed my mind that others would or should be offended by it! What can I say, I am a big fan! Congrats on 200K!
Steve, I am one of your 200K! Happy to be! You have enlightened on MANY topics and I am grateful. SO grateful that I have shared your content with 100s!! In addition, I did not see the video you pulled and I am not very familiar with subject matter....BUT....it is sad we live in a society that will attack people for their opinion thru a keyboard. I encourage you to make principle based decisions and continue adding value to our lives even if the content is "political"! I will continue to share your value and do what I can to assist you in reaching 1M!! To Your Success!!
Well done Steve! I watched some of your videos a few years ago and you introduced me to many of the tools that have helped my business grow and thrive since then. My productivity and thus my profitability has skyrocketed since I started using the tools I learned about on your channel, I'd like to thank you for that. Recently I was searching for a google forms tutorial and rediscovered your channel. You do a phenomenal job, you are fun to watch, your comments are thoughtful, your videos are well produced but not over produced, the information you deliver is clear and easy to follow. You will make it to the top, I have no doubt. Keep doing what you do and you will surpass 1 000 000 before you know it.
As one of your 200000, I (nearly) always find your content interesting. However I think that the growth has caused a widening of the interests of both yourself and new subscribers.
This seem to have resulted in two streams of content. The firsts the original stream aimed at consumers - the Google contingent as you put it, and general interest, Te second, apparently growing in importance, is the business side; marketing through the online media.
Care will need to be taken to ensure that business does not eat up interest element, leaving we legacy subscribers out in the cold (please excuse mt mixing of metaphors).
I look forward to your announcement of the next milestone reached!!
Congrats Steve on achieving the 200K subs milestone! I think it's amazing how your channel grows given the diversity. There's no question you can't please everyone all the time. WIshing you a dash to 1M subs!
Steve, what can be more political than technology!?! Everything can be political. Stand your ground and say your piece. What you said was informative and useful AND it was your opinion. Your community values your knowledge and your 'take' on things. Don't back down the next time.
Hi Steve, I'd like to congratulate you on your 200,000 subscriber milestone. I thought your talk about the problem of fake news was on point and relevant for what it's worth. Information is power and I'd rather educate on an important topic than bury my head in the sand. For what it's worth.
I enjoy all your videos! Those that interest me and those that don't. I may not agree with you all the time, but I would never belittle you. One thing I learn is that I have the freedom to listen or not. Keep up the good work, and always think positive.
I haven't seen the vlog in question and I am not familiar with the subject, but there is no reason for anyone to be attacked by their opinions (with some radical exceptions). Keep on with the good work.
Biting the hand that feeds it.....Google owns YouTube..... Google has Google Images.....Much of the stuff on Google Images is owned by others... and carries a copyright....so... don't use the pics on Google Images without checking to see who owns them.
Hey Steve.... FIRSTLY... Congrats on the 200K milestone!!!
I did see last weeks VLOG and was wondering the same thing.... why are you doing something so political.
I do like your perspective on things and would love to see you cover the topic of Censorship on SM platforms in a more complete way and not just as it relates to one channel. You did a great job with Fake New. But do some in depth research, ask questions like is censorship more related to content than it is to presentation (as in the case of Alex Jones), do SM platforms hide behind TOS to control the dialogue they want people to see, what process is followed before an SM platform declares something as FAKE and just because they declare it as FAKE does that give them the right to censor it? These and lots of other questions. Get some good hard facts.
Lotsa work... I know. That's why WE LOVE YOU STEVE... you put in the hours to make our lives easier.
Hi Steve. Love your channel and I encourage you on Patreon. Congrats for the 200k subscribers. Unfortunately I missed the post that you took out. I have mixed feelings about that move but I think the dominant one is disappointment. You made the "business first" choice and I don't have to judge that. Personally I would prefer that the creator assumes entirely what he has produced and leave it there. Your lesson learned post here should be sufficient. Thanks again for all your interesting content.
Fair point, I think I would have left it up if I did not see the conversation moving so far off the rails so fast.
I have always made it a point to be accessible in comments, but that became me having to defend myself against abuse., and watch as other community members chose sides.
I like the idea of letting the cards fall where they may, and a part of me wishes I had stayed the course, we will see what route I take next time! (I am sure there will be a next time)
With regard to straying outside your lane…
Well, we all know that everything in this world changes with time, including our lanes, limits, and boundaries. My life has taught me that sometimes the only way to pinpoint the current location of our “lane boundary” is to set foot over the line. The dissonance that this induces does not mean we’ve made some huge mistake. It means we now know with far more certainty the precise position of that lane boundary.
Hi Steve, I am writing to join those congratulating you on reaching 200,000 subscribers. You have reached this milestone because you have an engaging personality and provide useful tech information clearly. I have shared a number of your VLOGs w/ friends and their response has been very positive.
Congratulations on 200,000! I thought the Vlog was supposed to be outside the normal content of the channel? Why is it ok for you to talk about your diabetes report or a ferry line up with your wife but you talk a little about an issue that is actually relevant to running a YouTube channel and all of the sudden the Vlog is offside? Be very careful that even long term viewers don't become the editors for your channel otherwise you may never hit your million subscriber goal...Nobody is forcing anyone to watch the Vlog. If they don't like the topic they can stop watching it....
A big part of me agrees with you, and I am not intending to change those personal touches.
I think our political climate has become so polarised that anything that smacks of a political point of view is a potential bomb. I simply do not want to have to start banning people from comments because they are abusive, but we were headed in that direction. This topic was not the hill to die on. There may be a time, but not yet....:-)
I missed the entry you took down but here is "maybe" a subject further down the line:
If I am going to have technical "theory" posts, how-to's, "what am I up to" and VERY political posts, would it be a good idea to have them all on a single channel? To have each on its own channel would REALLY be a strain on the hours in the week I am thinking.
Thanks for the vid...
Congratulations on the 200k! On the „political“ question. Yes - I’m not a subscriber on this channel to discuss political questions. But there is a „territory“ in between like what You’ve discussed last week. And with that I wouldn’t be as critical as other subscribers. So don’t bother Yourself too much with that. Just go on - You do a great job! 200k subscribers can’t be wrong! Yours, Andreas
I didn't see the video that you took off. But, if you put it on your video blog.... I think that's another matter all together. This is an old issue for me . It goes way back..... to entertainers and actors. I think Vince Gill's songs are way too sad for me...but, I love him as a person. Sinatra is probably my best example. The gay was a nut...he finally acknowledged it.....He was very cruel to some people and gave away millions ..... if I dig deeper.... into the serious stuff....there are a lot of entertainers and actors whose politics... I don't like....and for this reason.... I don't like them so much....there are others whose politics I do like...whose work I don't like. All of this is about being a public figure. What I like least .... are people who are admitted cowards...who should speak out, that don't. I'm in for the whole package....I believe that if you speak out on an issue, you should let me respond. I greatly respect Freedom of Speech. Probably more than any other right. But, it has to be a two way street.
Congratulations Steve! That’s an amazing feat that took a lot of persistence to achieve.
I didn’t see the post on Alex Jones, and I wouldn’t presume to weigh in on one side or the other of the issue, because it doesn’t sound to me like that was your point, but I will say that I applaud you for taking the criticism as constructive, recognizing the sentiment and making an adjustment. Keep up what you do and know that we enjoy your insights and all the aspects of your journey. 🖖
I used to face this problem when I subscribed to Facebook pages and twitter where I would keep getting irrelevant reposts. For example if I followed a organic store I’d get reposts on river clean ups. Worse I get that same message from other sources as well. I would end up unsubscribing.
This is why I subscribed to your channel Steve. You provide expert tech knowledge (one of the best out there), and by watching your example, I learn little jewels of valuable information on how to become a successful vlogger. Today I learned how to effectively recover from a potential retention/growth setback. 😀
Congrats on 200,000!
Yesterday, my wife Jackee, was notified by YouTube that her channel had been shut down, for violating their rules. She was told that she could appeal this decision. She followed their procedure for doing this, and in doing so, she said that she had no idea ... as to how she might have violated their rules. Everything that she posted was original, and she said this. Today, she got a notice that her appeal had been denied.
No reason given.
As an attorney, I'm thinking of bringing a class action against YouTube.
Every contract carries with it a covenant of GOOD FAITH. This means that the parties agree to treat each other fairly.
Certainly, a contract can be terminated for "cause." But, that cause has to be stated, and it wasn't.
If Jackee was treated this unfairly, I'm sure that others have been too.
There are probably attorneys just waiting to pounce on Youtube for exactly what you said. They are just waiting for the pool to get larger. This is interesting stuff! What exactly was your wife posting that they shut down her channel? Did she repost on another channel like real.video which does not censor content?
I have dealt with this situation before... in my mind... NOT IN THE LAW (I haven't researched it) but, it seems to me that for all practical purposes... YouTube has a monopoly..... We HAVE a YouTube for our business.... it's under MY name https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChfQf-Vwzh0oxmYHiO4DO4g
The channel under her name was not intended for public use...but, we left the videos public. They were videos that she made for our clients. We put them on YouTube so they could review them, and so we could use their links for various purposes. They included and were like the ones we have on our web site. www.planeteinstein.com
First, congratulations on hitting 200,000+ subscribers. I joined you a few years ago while you were working toward 100,000 subscribers. It's great to see how you've improved your production quality and output since those days of being a talking head in a dark room to where you are now. It gives me hope that perhaps one day I'll discover how to do this for myself.
As for the Alex Jones video, I didn't see it. To be honest, I don't know much about Alex Jones and I've never heard him speak. I gather he's made some disturbing comments and that's why he's so polarizing.
While I didn't see your video, I agree with the folks who said that we don't come here to get political content - even if that wasn't your primary intent. I visited some of your older videos yesterday because I was trying to decide between Trello and Asana for my blog and podcasting editorial calendar. You have some great information to share and I ultimately went with Asana. It's a bit pricy for a one-man team, but that's what it takes to get the tool I wanted.
This is the kind of information that I want. Even if I don't know that I need it today, you're building an archive of useful information and I came to your channel when I needed to know more about these tools. It wouldn't bother me the slightest if you decided to create a new channel for different type of discussions, from political to basket weaving. The point is that I would hate to see the useful information and vibe on this channel diluted by off-topic discussion.
At least that's how I feel about it. Good luck toward 300K and onward.
The problem is not that Facebook and Google are the only advertising platforms. The problem is that they are considered mainstream media and without these two, the trend of cryptocurrencies gaining legitimacy is delayed. That is right, I said delayed not blocked or prevented.
The World Has Changed.
Five years ago, when bitcoin was unknown to most people, this might have been a fatal move. Today is a different story. I recently traveled to a remote mountain town in the interior of Mexico. Everyone I met had heard about Bitcoin and eyes lit up with excitement when I ask if I could pay for lunch with bitcoin.
Today are dozens of websites dedicated to cryptocurrencies, either holding them, exchanging them or just writing about them. Probably the most effective advertising remains on Google, it is called Google Search and it is free.
If someone wants to learn about owning bitcoin or any other currency, there is a ton of educational information.
The Flipside Is Being Ignored.
Not All Regulation Is Inherently Bad.
If we examine the full spectrum of regulation to this point on a global scale there is one common target most everywhere. That is the practice of exchanges. So far there has been little or not regulation, threatened or enacted, to protect investors from loss of funds due to security breaches.
Capitulation Is A Good Sign.
