Stock Trading 101 - All You Need to Know to Get Started in the Stock Market

08:51
Stock Trading 101 - All You Need to Know to Get Started in the Stock Market First is risk capital. This is money that you have that even if you lose 100% of it, it will not negatively affect your lifestyle. This is essential not only to safeguard your life, but also because trading with money that isn't risk capital can wreak havoc on your psychology as a trader. Second, you will need a computer and an internet connection. You'll need an understanding of the stock market and trading basics. And also, you're going to need an online broker, a trading software platform, and if you choose to use them, trading tools – and access to market information. And finally, a personal trading plan, strategy and a dedication to learning. For the basics, the first thing to focus on is learning the different order types - for example, a market order versus a limit order and also the settings for these orders, such as good-till-close or good-till-cancel. The bid and ask system is also important to understand. Next in basics is the simulated account. A simulated account allows you to place orders in an environment that mimics live trading action. A simulated account is a great way to get the feel of trading and practice placing orders without the risk of losing money. It's a good idea to treat simulated accounts as if they are real money accounts. This gives you the closest approximation to how it will be when it's actually your money at stake, and it will give you the best preparation for your live trading. The next basic to cover is information. It's important to learn what kinds of news and information you need to know before you place a trade in a given stock. For example, things like FED announcements, earnings reports, and other pieces of news can move the stock price quickly and substantially. Last in basics is connection. There can be great opportunities to learn from other traders and to share our experiences. There are a lot of different online communities for traders, one of them is StockTwits and I really enjoy this one so I highly recommend you check them out. The next section is on brokers. They allow you to buy and sell securities. One of the first things to consider in choosing your broker is what level of service you want. Different brokers will offer different levels of service, for example some have hands-on services where some are a lot more basic and require that you're more self-sufficient in managing your own account. The second thing to consider is the costs. You'll want to find out what kind of commission structure the broker offers, and then decide if the costs of these commissions are balanced with what this broker can provide you. And lastly, you do want to factor this cost into your trading plan. Another important thing to consider with a broker is compatibility to your specific trading software platform. Your trading software platform is the front end software that you're going to use that allows you to see charts and most likely place trades right on those charts. Some brokers provide a software platform as part of their offer. If this is the case, you'll want to determine if you like the platform they offer. And if not, you'll want to make sure they can tie in with a platform that you do like. That takes us to the trading software section and as I just mentioned if your broker provides this, you just want to decide if you like the one they offer. If not, there are many platforms that are "broker neutral" that you can choose from. One really important thing though to make sure is that if you use trading tools like indicators you want to make sure that the trading software that you choose is compatible with your trading tools because not all will be. So this brings us to the final section on trading tools. Technical traders often end up using tools to help in their analysis. There are many different tools available that use different market inputs to give a variety of deeper insights to trading charts and decisions. Having a good tool set can help you create your own market edge and it can really give you a more systematic way to trade so although having and using trading tools in your trading is optional, I would highly recommend that you at least look into it and consider the use of trading tools. ~ Jesse Jones, Stock Market Profile See all my other videos here: http://www.youtube.com/c/Stockmarketprofile Click Here To Subscribe - Never Miss A Video! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=Stockmarketprofile Remember to comment under my videos with questions, feedback and anything you'd like to share. In this video I will share with you the basics behind how a company issues stock, how money is made in the stock market, and how you can profit from trading stocks. Stock is simply a piece of the company and you get a share. Has to shares are exchanged or traded over time the value of them fluctuates over also changes. If you are able to buy stocks of companies at a lower price in one year and then hold it over time for multiple years and sell it at a higher price than you make a profit and this is where it comes into the investment side. Investing in stocks is similar to investing in a home or in real estate. If you can buy a house at a cheaper price in one year with time that house value should go up and appreciate and then later on you can sell it for more money capitalizing and profiting from the difference. In this video may share with you some calculations about how a company can sell stock to investors and therefore use that capital to grow the company. How I Trade on the Stock Market

11:29
**Read description for answers to frequently asked questions** the first stock market video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwd3C2Cq9H0 As I say many times in the video, this is simply the way that I personally trade. That does not mean that it is for everyone. There are countless different approaches that one could have to the stock market, and none of them are strictly right or wrong. Don't ever follow exactly what any one person tells you when it comes to the stock market - including me! Do your research and come to your own conclusions. QUESTIONS Q. Do you day trade? A. Essentially, no. I rarely day trade. I think that since I have started trading, I have only done 2 or 3 day trades. Q. Your chart assumes that you can identify highs and lows - how is that possible? A. It's not. My chart was a very basic version of the way in which I trade - very basic. If I could re-film the video, I would put more emphasis on identifying highs and lows - the emphasis being that you can never 100% identify them. If you trade, as I showed later in my chart, sometimes you will sell and the stock will skyrocket. Or, quite often, you will buy and the stock will plummet. It happens, and of course I experience this all the time. Q. How long do you hold stocks? A. This varies greatly, and can be anywhere from 1 day to months. On average, I probably hold stocks approximately 3 days - 1 week. Q. So, you are making this video to advise people to start trading? A. No. Absolutely not. I would be more likely to encourage people NOT to trade on the stock market than I would be to do vice versa. Q. So, you trade off your base of $10k, and live off of that? A. No. $10k is what I started with in my account two years ago. It is not what is in my account now. Q. Can you give me advice on...? A. No. Although I would love to help everyone, I am not the best means of advice for you. I am not trying to give anyone advice here - I am simply sharing a bit of insight into what my job as a stock trader looks like. I am not a licensed financial advisor, and I would not ever presume to give anyone financial advice. Please do your research and be careful! Q. You don't seem like a professional trader...? A. I am not really concerned with how professional I "seem." I am making a living, and that is the most important thing to me. I did not go to school for this, or ever take any classes on the stock market. I did my own research and taught myself all that I know about the market. I am not worried about seeming professional - I am only concerned about making money on the stock market. Q. Can you give us proof / screenshot your personal account info / banking info so that I believe you? A. No. If you do not "believe me," please don't expect me to care. Q. I want to make some quick cash. Should I invest in the stock market? A. No. Absolutely not. Q. Can you film yourself actually trading on the market? A. No - for various reasons. One, if you are imagining that my actual trading will be anywhere near as engaging as that not-very-exciting chart, you are mistaken. Perhaps if I was day trading, this would not be the case, but when I buy a stock, I simply click a button the says "buy." That's it... And then I wait for days, weeks, perhaps months. There is nothing thrilling to see here. Also, it would be a bother to block out all of my account numbers and all that. Sorry. SOCIALS Instagram - travellight21 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/travellight21/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/Travellight_ http://travellight.me Why do I trade on TD Ameritrade? - They have strong research reports - They have great trading tools, such as Thinkorswim - They have a great mobile app that allows me to trade on the go - They have amazing customer service - There are no hidden fees, such as maintaining a minimum balance I explained this in the original cut of my video, but it was just getting too long! **And no, I am not sponsored in any way by TD Ameritrade, I just like their trading platform and wanted to give you guys an explanation of why that is. A lot of people also highly recommend Scottrade, which has lower fees than Ameritrade. Whatever works for you!** DISCLAIMER This video is for entertainment purposes only. The Stock Market Explained Simply: Finance and Investing Basics - Animated Film (1957)

10:20
The New York Stock Exchange (sometimes referred to as "the Big Board") provides a means for buyers and sellers to trade shares of stock in companies registered for public trading. The NYSE is open for trading Monday through Friday from 9:30 am -- 4:00 pm ET, with the exception of holidays declared by the Exchange in advance. The NYSE trades in a continuous auction format, where traders can execute stock transactions on behalf of investors. They will gather around the appropriate post where a specialist broker, who is employed by an NYSE member firm (that is, he/she is not an employee of the New York Stock Exchange), acts as an auctioneer in an open outcry auction market environment to bring buyers and sellers together and to manage the actual auction. They do on occasion (approximately 10% of the time) facilitate the trades by committing their own capital and as a matter of course disseminate information to the crowd that helps to bring buyers and sellers together. The auction process moved toward automation in 1995 through the use of wireless hand held computers (HHC). The system enabled traders to receive and execute orders electronically via wireless transmission. On September 25, 1995, NYSE member Michael Einersen, who designed and developed this system, executed 1000 shares of IBM through this HHC ending a 203 year process of paper transactions and ushering in an era of automated trading. As of January 24, 2007, all NYSE stocks can be traded via its electronic hybrid market (except for a small group of very high-priced stocks). Customers can now send orders for immediate electronic execution, or route orders to the floor for trade in the auction market. In the first three months of 2007, in excess of 82% of all order volume was delivered to the floor electronically.[23] NYSE works with US regulators like the SEC and CFTC to coordinate risk management measures in the electronic trading environment through the implementation of mechanisms like circuit breakers and liquidity replenishment points.[24] Until 2005, the right to directly trade shares on the exchange was conferred upon owners of the 1366 "seats". The term comes from the fact that up until the 1870s NYSE members sat in chairs to trade. In 1868, the number of seats was fixed at 533, and this number was increased several times over the years. In 1953, the number of seats was set at 1,366. These seats were a sought-after commodity as they conferred the ability to directly trade stock on the NYSE, and seat holders were commonly referred to as members of the NYSE. The Barnes family is the only known lineage to have five generations of NYSE members: Winthrop H. Barnes (admitted 1894), Richard W.P. Barnes (admitted 1926), Richard S. Barnes (admitted 1951), Robert H. Barnes (admitted 1972), Derek J. Barnes (admitted 2003). Seat prices varied widely over the years, generally falling during recessions and rising during economic expansions. The most expensive inflation-adjusted seat was sold in 1929 for $625,000, which, today, would be over six million dollars. In recent times, seats have sold for as high as $4 million in the late 1990s and as low as $1 million in 2001. In 2005, seat prices shot up to $3.25 million as the exchange entered into an agreement to merge with Archipelago and become a for-profit, publicly traded company. Seat owners received $500,000 in cash per seat and 77,000 shares of the newly formed corporation. The NYSE now sells one-year licenses to trade directly on the exchange. Licences for floor trading are available for $40,000 and a licence for bond trading is available for as little as $1,000 as of 2010.[25] Neither are resell-able, but may be transferable in during the change of ownership of a cooperation holding a trading licence. On February 15, 2011 NYSE and Deutsche Börse announced their merger to form a new company, as yet unnamed, wherein Deutsche Börse shareholders will have 60% ownership of the new entity, and NYSE Euronext shareholders will have 40%. On February 1, 2012, the European Commission blocked the merger of NYSE with Deutsche Börse, after commissioner Joaquin Almunia stated that the merger "would have led to a near-monopoly in European financial derivatives worldwide".[38] Instead, Deutsche Börse and NYSE will have to sell either their Eurex derivatives or LIFFE shares in order to not create a monopoly. On February 2, 2012, NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Börse agreed to scrap the merger.[39] In April 2011, IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), an American futures exchange, and NASDAQ OMX Group had together made an unsolicited proposal to buy NYSE Euronext for approximately US$11 billion, a deal in which NASDAQ would have taken control of the stock exchanges.[40] NYSE Euronext rejected this offer two times, but it was finally terminated after the United States Department of Justice indicated their intention to block the deal due to antitrust concerns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange

What is the stock market? Win $500 and practice stock trading in our Fall Contest today! https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/register?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=VideoLink&utm_campaign=FallContest The stock market exists so that companies can raise money without incurring any debt (such is the case of a loan). They issue shares of their company to the public in what is known as an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Investors buy and sell these shares (or stocks) to one another on the stock exchange, thus making stock prices move up and down. If there are more people buying a stock than people selling it, the price goes up with the demand. If more people are selling than there are people buying a stock, that’s a sign that the company is unfavorable to own and the stock price drops. A stock exchange is where investors trade their shares of companies to one another. That’s why stock prices are constantly changing. Stock exchanges bring all these investors together, so that trades happen in a central and regulated place. There are hundreds of stock exchanges all over the world. In the U.S., the top stock exchanges are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the NASDAQ, and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). Each of these exchanges have different companies trading on them. For example, NASDAQ is known for technological companies. Most of the tech stocks out there trade on the NASDAQ stock exchange. 30. What is Stock Volume

Download Preston's 1 page checklist for finding great stock picks: http://buffettsbooks.com/checklist Preston Pysh is the #1 selling Amazon author of two books on Warren Buffett. The books can be found at the following location: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0982967624/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0982967624&linkCode=as2&tag=pypull-20&linkId=EOHYVY7DPUCW3WD4 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1939370159/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1939370159&linkCode=as2&tag=pypull-20&linkId=XRE5CA2QJ3I2OWSW In this lesson, we learned the importance of stock volume. Although volume won't help intelligent investors learn the intrinsic value of a company, it can be used as a tool to help predict market behavior. Many times investors can be fooled into believing that the market price of a stock is determined by all the shareholders. This idea is false. When we look at the volume of a company on an given day, we can quickly get a sense of how many traders are actually determine the price of a stock when we compare this number to the shares outstanding. This ratio, volume/shares outstanding, provides a good idea how many traders are moving away from the company and how many are coming into the company. When the company trades at a very low volume, we can generally say that the shareholder agree with the market price. Likewise, if the volume is very high, we can generally say that shareholders disagree with the market price. In the video, we demonstrated this principal with Wells Fargo (WFC). When we looked at the historical market price for WFC, we learned that on the day where the volume was the highest in ten years, the market price was at an all time low. This idea of shareholders disagreeing with the market price when volume is relatively high is an important point that stock traders can use to their advantage. Always remember, volume can mean that the stock is over priced or underpriced. The peak or valley is for you to discern.

Stock Market Index | by Wall Street Survivor

01:45
What is a stock market index? Learn more at: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com An index, like the DOW, the S&P500 or the NASDAQ, is a sample of stocks that provide insight into the broader market. When someone says "the market is up 10 points today", they are referring to an index. By measuring the compilation of similar stocks instead of just one or two stocks, a stock index provides information about that particular market or segment. One of the most talked about and popular indexes is The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) which consists of 30 of the biggest companies in the U.S. Stock indices are typically related by some commonality: for example, the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 is an index that measures or tracks almost every publicly traded stock in the United States. The Morgan Stanley Biotech Index is a small index that follows the biotechnology market. Each stock index has a specific focus that can provide highly specific or very generalized information. What is "Beta" [Stock Market Terms] + How to Use it for Trading Decisions

07:27
What is "Beta" [Stock Market Terms] + How to Use it for Trading Decisions ★ SUMMARY ★ In this week's episode what I'd like to do with you share with you What is Beta and How Can You Use Beta on the Stock Market Tables to make trading decisions or investing decisions for your personal portfolio. Knowing what Beta is First off before we even get into what is Beta more important question is why would you want to know this why? Why would you want to know what it's all about? Well the thing is, what beta really tells you, is it tells you the volatility of a certain stock or security. How big of those movement, how big not a direction but that how large those movements can be for a stock or security relative to a neutral level. What does all this mean in layman's terms or in simple terms? Applying Beta to your stock picks It means that if you're looking for a stable company, if you’re for looking for a stock that does not whipsaw around a lot, if you're looking for a stock that moves in a nice line fashion then you want a smaller beta. If you want a stock that moves around a lot quicker and has a higher potential to make you more money or has a higher potential to go to the upside quicker or go to the downside quicker, typically great for day trading as well, then you want a higher beta. An in-depth understanding of Beta in the stock market Let's look at beta in more in-depth. Basically, the stock market itself, the market itself has a beta of 1 so if we have the market as a beta of 1, this is how it moves. So let's just pretend that this angle in this volatility is one. Stocks that have a higher volatility will have a higher beta so they may have a beta of something like let's just say one point three and if you have a beta of 1.3, this means typically your 30% more volatile than the market. So that volatility maybe something more like this so that stock has a greater volatility as it's going up or down. Now for looking for lower betas, companies like Microsoft or proctor and Gamble, if you're looking for a beta of let's say 0.8, this would be 0.8%, that volatility might be something like this, it might be very small and it moves very slow. It very slow to the upside or the downside, so you’re little bit more stable and that's why when things are in a panic they sell off very big, people jump to the lower beta stocks, they jump to the ones that have more stability. On the other hand when things are going great they’ll jump into the higher beta names because that is what they want, they want a huge run to the upside they want the fastest stocks that are moving the quickest in the shortest amount of time. Stocks just hit record highs…but how high can this go? Is it time to sell? Should people invest or hold off until prices go down? Lets answer this, from a logical, historic perspective…enjoy. I have no idea if stock market prices will be lower next week, higher next week, or lower next year, or higher next year…no one knows for sure. With that said, here’s an interesting perspective…In May of 2013, stocks hit all time highs…at this point, the SP500 was sitting around $1630 per share. Then we have April 1st, 2014…stocks hit more all time highs. At this point, the SP500 was hovering around $1860 per share. Then we have April 23rd, 2015…stocks hit all time highs, and the SP500 was now at $2080 per share. Then we have August 8th, 2016…now the SP500 was trading at $2180 per share. And then August 1 2017….STOCKS HIT RECORD HIGHS… the SP500 was trading at $2400 per share. And now…AUGUST 29TH…STOCKS HIT RECORD HIGHS…and the SP500 is at $2900 per share. Here’s what I’m getting at. Naturally we’re always going to be hitting record highs at some point or another. They have been in the 1950’s, the 1960’s, the 70’s…all the way to today. As markets increase, this is just a natural part of investing that we all thankfully have to deal with. The reality is…do we know when the market will drop? No. Could it be lower a year from now? Yes. Could it decline in price for the next several years in a row? Yes. Can we accurately and consistently predict when it will crash and when it will rise? Not really.. Given this context, we can only base an investing strategy off what we KNOW, which comes from long term historic trends. The safest, and also the most profitable investing strategy EVER when it comes to investing, is this: Save Your Money Buy when you can Buy consistently Don’t worry about “buying low, selling high” Simply buy and DON’T SELL. That’s it. Will there be some years the market goes down? Absolutely. Will there be years the market goes up? YES. Could it go down tomorrow? Yes. Could it go up tomorrow? Yes. But the long term trend should be overall UP when you look at a 20-30 year timespan. Invest what you can, live below your means, save money…and hold long term. Trading 101: What is a Dividend? When I first started to learn about the stock market, one of the first question I remember asking was, "what is a stock dividend?" I've come a long way since then; however, if you are new to the markets, perhaps you have no idea what a dividend is. Essentially it is simply just a "thank you" card from a company, with some cash. I'll explain more in the video. What exactly is a stock? Get my latest course : Save time learning to trade at: http://tradersfly.com -If you purchase stock in Google, you own a small fraction of Google. -When you purchase stock, you're buying a piece of the company. -People buy stock in order to invest -Companies sell stock in order to gain revenue (money to build/grow the company) Example -A person starts a candy cane company, invests a lot of money, and the company is worth $100,000 -In order for this company to grow larger, it needs more equipment and employees -The company needs more money to get the equipment and employees -Instead of going to a bank to borrow the money, stock comes into play -The candy cane company sells stock (or pieces of the company) -Other people invest in the company and in turn, own part of the company -The investors are looking for a financial gain -If the company doubles its revenue, the investors also double their money (i.e. if one person invested $30,000 that initial investment is now worth $60,000) -The investors benefit as the company grows ★ SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE: ★ http://bit.ly/addtradersfly ★ ABOUT TRADERSFLY ★ TradersFly is a place where I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience about the stock market, trading, and investing. 05:59
To get the FREE training series and e-book tutorial about how to invest in the Philippine stock market, go to: http://www.StockMarketforPinoys.com When you sign-up there you will receive the "Stock Market Jumpstarter" e-book as well. And receive stock market tutorials which aren't hosted here on Youtube! Video Summary: 1. There are three things you have to learn when you start investing. First is the correct mindset. Second is to pick the right strategy. And third is the tactics. Mindset - This is your expectations and your attitude towards investing. Strategy - Refers to the system (or way of thinking) on how you buy and sell your stocks. Tactics - Refer to the technical knowledge of what buttons to press, who to get a as a broker, etc. 2. When starting to invest in the stocks, it is VERY IMPORTANT to pick a strategy that compliments your lifestyle rather that one that complicates it. Depending on the strategy you pick, the stock market could demand 8 hours everyday, while it could also be done by just 15 minutes every month! (That's what the difference of strategy can do!)
