Small Business Revolution Documentary | The Entrepreneurial Spirit of America

27:00
During the Great Recession of 2007 and 2008, millions of jobs were shed at companies across the country. As the economy began to recover, it wasn’t the corporations or multinational companies that started to hire, it was small businesses in big and small cities alike that showed signs of life. Today, nearly a decade after the crash, the Small Business Revolution is thriving, as the entrepreneurial spirit sweeps across the country. The Small Business Revolution, brought to life by the Deluxe Corporation, is a celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit. This documentary showcases the power and joy and passion of small business owners, from a local barbershop in Chicago to a food truck in Little Rock; a pizzeria in San Francisco to a business incubator in Detroit. In developing the Small Business Revolution, Deluxe sought not to point fingers at what caused the economic meltdown, but instead to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that all small business owners exude every day. The message of the documentary is one of hope and perseverance. As one business owner notes: “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” It is true, small business is tough, yet there is joy in what is hard. Peppered with expert commentary from the likes of Robert Herjavec, celebrated entrepreneur and star of Shark Tank, Maria Contreras-Sweet, former administrator of the Small Business Administration, Melinda Emerson, the Small Biz Lady and a dozen unique small businesses from across the country, this documentary will help define the spirit and drive of small business owners as they share in their quest to capture a piece of the American Dream. #SmallBusinessRevolution #Deluxe Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://goo.gl/kVZveD Visit Here to Learn More: http://smallbusinessrevolution.org/ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/smallbizrev Follow us on Twiiter: https://twitter.com/smbizrevolution Follow us on Instagram: http://instagram.com/smallbusinessrevolution/ Championed by Deluxe and hosted by chief brand and communications officer, Amanda Brinkman, the Small Business Revolution is a movement created to shine a spotlight on the vital impact that small businesses have on our economy, our communities and our daily lives. Independence. Originality. Belief in the bold experiment. Now more than ever, the passionate values that built America drive millions of our local businesses.

The Big Lie of Small Business | Vusi Thembekwayo | TEDxUniversityofNamibia

17:58
A small Business can be a success, a small business doesn't have to stay small. Africa like many places is full of small businesses and struggling entrepreneurs, from small shop owners to street vendors. Vusi challenges the African business community as a whole to help grow these entrepreneurs as most businesses need capital and other forms of support from the more well established businesses and for bankers to play their part. As a continent Africa can become an economic giant of the world. Known as a "Rock star of public speaking" Vusi is the only speaker globally to have been invited to the Dragon's Den as an investor. This is because he has built several businesses. Today, as Chairman of Watermark Afrika Fund he is spearheading a pan-African process of raising the largest Growth Fund of high growth, high potential entrepreneurs in Africa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Business Vlog - Best time to start a small business is when you are Young Dumb & Broke

05:31
Here's a different view on when you should look to start a business, and its not necessarily when you are old, experienced and wealthy. What about when you are young dumb & broke? https://yourbusinesscoachingclub.com/ - Join our business coaching revolution where global business owners collaborate online for success. Stay ahead of your competitors this year by subscribing to this You Tube Channel, becoming a member of https://YourBusinessCoachingClub.com for just $15 a month or grab our Free Business Success Blueprints at https://yourbusinesscoachingclub.com/blueprint-for-business-success/ Here is a summary of my business vlog, originally published on my blog at https://yourbusinesscoachingclub.com/young-dumb-broke-perfect-time-to-start-a-business/ Let me know if you have any different ideas. Mark emailed me with a good question last week. “Craig, when is the best time to start a business? Should I get some experience working first? Do I need heaps of money?” There’s probably 3 questions there but, hey, let’s not get pedantic! Starting a business is definitely not risk free – there is absolutely no guarantee you will make more money than if you worked a job (you may even lose money!) and some businesses definitely need a fair bit of cash to get started. But my best advice to Mark is that, if you think you have it in you to be an entrepreneur, the best time to start is NOW – especially if you’re young, dumb and broke. Young because you’re more risk tolerant, have less real commitments in the world and plenty of time to recover from any failures….and you know the path to biz success is littered with disappointments don’t you. Dumb because you’re open to learning from people who have been there, done that. You know you don’t know everything and are prepared to ask and listen. We older folk (if 52 is old!) think we already know it all! Broke because you’ll be forced to start small and push hard. Online businesses are a great place to learn about marketing, product supply chains, finance, management….everything you need to be able to successfully run a large business, but can be so small that it won’t hurt you if it fails. Got a different view? I’ve posted this question into the members forum for our community to share their wisdom. Log in if you are a member. Come and join the revolution if you’re not. GoDaddy GoGetter Community | GoDaddy

02:09
GoDaddy's GoGetter Community is a place for small business owners to share ideas and best practices, and to connect with a mentor for advice and support. There are millions of small businesses the world over. And regardless of how or where they’ve set up shop, their owners all have four things in common. Each has a passionate commitment to their business; They never have enough hours in their day to get everything done; None have all the answers all the time; And every single owner works hard every single day to succeed. Their challenge is real - 51% of small businesses in the U.S. fail within the first 5 years and only 30% make it to their 10-year anniversary. For those that endure, what’s the secret besides drive, moxie, creativity, hard work? Turns out, it’s help from other people. 70% who connect with a community, especially with a mentor, survive and thrive. Enter the GoDaddy GoGetter Community. A place for small business owners to exchange ideas, share best practices, and connect with peers or a mentor ready to help you succeed. There are discussion forums where you can ask questions and gain insights from other small business owners around the block or across the country. And when it comes to finding a mentor who’s been there, done that, and lived to tell the tale, the right one is standing by with one-on-one advice and support. To help with that decision, each mentor provides a profile of their business, location, and expertise, like tax law in Washington, business planning in Phoenix, or opening a bicycle shop in Portland. Connecting with a mentor, or two, is the first step. And when someone answers your question you’ll know. Email notifications ensure you never miss a reply – whether from a mentor or someone in a forum. Running a small business is a daily challenge. Success takes the right resources, encouragement and support. The owner of Jones Market uses bunny slippers to boost her morale and keep going. We’ve got something better than bunny slippers – a community of people just like you, ready and willing to help.

5 Simple Ideas to Advertise and Market Your Small Business

02:46
Website: http://joeygedgaud.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/JoeyGedgaud One of the most common questions I get as a marketer is how a business owner can do free marketing on there own. Small budgets and limited time is a problem for every business and I understand why. Well, any successful business owner knows that you should be marketing all the time wherever you are. You represent your business 24-7. If you successfully engage with people and your business is brought into conversation then you only have a minute to really sell them on your product or service. So know how you're going say about your business in a minute or less (The Elevator Pitch). Here are 5 ways to advertise and marketing your small business: 1. You don't have to think big when it comes to marketing your business. Think small and local to start. What's going on in your own community? Sponsor events, go to chamber meetings, and give your library a flier goes a long way. Understand your ideal customer and think about where they spend their time. Then search for opportunities to get in front of your customer with your marketing message. This means handing out business cards and telling people about your business when the subject comes up. Many business owners shut off work down when they leave the office, but if you're passionate about what you created than tell people about it at different local events. The old time networking. 2. Every newspaper and magazine in your area is looking for a good story. They want to find that hometown hero and make them front page news. You don't need a grand opening to get a story about you. Maybe you expanded, updated, reopened, added a new product, helping a charity, or trying something new. Newspapers will find any reason to print an article about your business. This means the big and little papers, free magazines, organizations and library publications, and even college newspapers. College papers work especially well for businesses close to the university or students are one of their ideal customers. Don't feel as though they need to come to you. Reach out and share your story with them sp they share it with the community. You can also look online for blogs and PR websites that you can get people talking about you. Every town has a person writing about the newest and greatest stores and will be happy to help a small business. Find free PR sites that you can write a quick story about something important. 3. Social media is free! So many business owners over look this simple marketing tool. You can get in front of your ideal customers for free. It takes a few minutes to get started and makes a huge difference. Take the time to set your profile and make sure you do it right. Post valuable content each week that your customers will be interested in. This means news, images, videos, inspiration quotes, questions, quizzes, witty pictures, and interesting articles. Makes conversation with your customers and have fun with it. Just remember that social media is not just about promoting yourself. Technology like this help connect people like billboards never could. You can talk one-on-one with every potential customer. You're not just trying to get as many likes or follows as possible. You're building relationships with real people. More on social media: http://joeygedgaud.com/writing-facebook-twitter-posts-to-engage-with-customers/ 4. I know you want to make money and not give it away, but giving away free products or services is the best way to get more business. Reach out to a local blogger mom or charity and see if you can give them something. This also includes bargaining with other businesses. They will tell people about what you have to offer and probably come back if they like what you have. Plus, people talk! If you want the word to get out about you than make something for them to talk about. 5. If everything else sounds boring to you than the best thing you can do is throw a party. Who doesn't want to have fun and eat free food? Business parties are more common than you think and you don't just a grand opening to have one. Like any good reason to get into a newspaper; you can have any reason to throw an awesome party. Have an open party each and every year if you want. The UPS Store Makes 3D Printing Accessible to Start-Ups and Small Business Owners

01:50
The UPS Store today announced it is the first nationwide retailer to test 3D printing services in-store. Select UPS Store locations will be offering the services to start-ups, small businesses and retail customers, beginning in the San Diego area with locations in additional cities across the United States in the near future. A recent poll of small business owners conducted by The UPS Store showed high interest in trying the services, particularly for those needing to create prototypes, artistic renderings or promotional materials. "Start-ups, entrepreneurs and small business owners may not have the capital to purchase a 3D printer on their own, but they may have a need to show prototypes to their current and potential customers," said Michelle Van Slyke, vice president of marketing and small business solutions at The UPS Store. "By offering 3D printing capabilities in-center, we're able to help further our small business customers' opportunities for success." The UPS Store is testing the Stratasys uPrint SE Plus printer, which according to Stratasys is most well-known for its ability to print detailed objects more accurately than home 3D printers. Stratasys notes that this is particularly important when parts need to fit into each other or fit some other object. With this printer, The UPS Store locations will be equipped to produce items like engineering parts, functional prototypes, acting props, architectural models, fixtures for cameras, lights and cables. In addition, The UPS Store locations offer a range of services tailored to meet the needs of small businesses in all stages of the business lifecycle. Not only can small business owners receive well-recognized services like packing and shipping, printing, faxing, direct mail and mailbox services, but The UPS Store locations also will work with business owners to develop custom solutions to meet their unique business needs. For more information on how The UPS Store supports small businesses, visit the Small Business Solutions portal at http://smallbiz.theupsstore.com. Follow The UPS Store on Twitter at https://twitter.com/TheUPSStore, and like The UPS Store on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theupsstore. Poll Methodology The results of the poll are based on a national online poll with small business owners. The poll was conducted with 86 small business owners between June 3 and June 17, 2013. The sample was drawn from Small Biz Buzz, The UPS Store private online community of small business owners.

How do I build an email list from scratch ( Email Marketing)

02:44
Question- What are some ways to build an email marketing list when you have no audience or clients yet in your start up? A - If you want to build a list of emails that is relevant for your business – which in my opinion should be your aim – you can consider the following methods. Make a website and start a blog. Plan 10 blog posts. Make a blog post launching the site and the blog, and invite people to subscribe to receive the 10 blog posts as they are made. Aim for 1-2 blog posts per week. Promote this initiative in every social media channel possible and ask your friends and family to share it. To further improve traffic to subscription ratio, use CRO tools such as HelloBar and OptinMonster. Create social media accounts in any relevant social media network. LinkedIn is not the only B2B network, you can do business via Facebook, Twitter and even Quora. For LinkedIn and Facebook, post in relevant groups; for Twitter, use relevant # / hashtags; for Quora, follow the relevant topics and interact with the community and wherever relevant mention your start up and insert a call to action. Make a survey: especially in the B2B markets – surveys are a good way to boost your email lists. It’s all in the promise of what they will receive by filling in the survey and leaving their email in the end. In this way, a survey will net you: emails, potential leads, data & insights for content creation – and some authority in the field. All three of these ways are in essence organic. There are time costs, and sometimes costs like buying a domain or survey tool account. But in the long run, these will be the people who will have a higher lead-to-pay conversion than any other means. Hope it helps!” http://digitalsmb.com/questions-2/question/what-are-some-ways-to-build-an-email-marketing-list-when-you-have-no-audience-or-clients-yet-in-your-start-up DigitalSMB Small Business Digital Marketing Community DigitalSMB is an online community of Small Business Owners, Digital Marketing professionals interested in connecting with colleagues, advancing their skills, building credibility around their expertise, staying current, and exploring exciting new tools and skills to help their business grow.
