Chuck Hughes: Option Trade Selection

16:32
In this video, the Hughes Optioneering Team will explore their three step process for selecting option trades. Options are derivatives that derive their value from the price of the underlying stock. Option profits are determined by the price movement of the underlying stock. If you can identify a stock is moving up in price, you can profit from purchasing call options. This allows us to profit from the tremendous leverage that options provide. Learn how the three step trade selection process allows us to identify stocks and options with the best profit potential and profit in any type of market condition. Actual option trades will be used to demonstrate the ability of the three step trade selection process to select profitable option trades. Chuck Hughes: Selecting an Option Strike Price

09:58
Selecting an option strike price is an often overlooked but important part of profitable option investing. Option premiums consist of time value an intrinsic value. Option Premium = Time Value + Intrinsic Value The strike price of an option determines the options time value and intrinsic value. Options lose all time value at expiration. Options Lose All Time Value at Expiration When you purchase an option the time value portion of an option is a decaying asset. Therefore the goal is to maximize intrinsic value and minimize time value when you purchase an option. Goal is to Maximize Intrinsic Value and Minimize Time Value In this video you will learn a simple method for selecting a strike price that allows you to maximize intrinsic value and minimize time value when you purchase an option.

Selecting Profitable Options

04:30
http://www.options-trading-education.com/24039/selecting-profitable-options/ Selecting Profitable Options By www.Options-Trading-Education.com Options trading volatility is common the key to success in selecting profitable options. It is obvious that the best options to buy are commonly the cheapest and that the best options to sell are those that have changed greatly in price from when they were purchased. But in selecting profitable options how does a trader know when an out-of-the-money option will sky rocket to huge profits? Picking an Equity Market and an Equity Commodity futures options trading can be quite profitable, if you know your commodities. One can purchase futures contracts on commodities such as corn, wheat, pork bellies or soybeans. If you are doing this you are following the weather in various parts of the world and United States Department of Agriculture reports relating to the commodity that you are interested in. A drought in a major grain producing area such as the Ukraine, Brazil, or the American Midwest will drive prices up. Great weather will increase yields and typically drive prices down. If ranchers decide that cattle are becoming less profitable they will cull their herds driving prices down in the short term and up in the long term. Pick the product that you know and keep track of its pricing. That is a key factor for selecting profitable options in commodities futures. And, then there is stock option trading. Again, selecting profitable options depends on following prices and the basics that drive prices in the long term. A successful options trader knows the fundamentals and where the market will end up. He buys calls or puts on a stock when he expects to see a substantial price change within the time frame of a standard options contract. If he expects to see changes but in a longer time frame he may consider LEAPS options. Slow LEAPS to Profits An options trader may wish to trade with a longer timeline than with regular options contracts. Then he chooses LEAPS options. LEAPS is an acronym. A Long Term Equity AnticiPation Security is an option with longer term until expiration than other options. There are LEAPS available for more than 2000 equities in more than two dozen indexes. LEAPS are way to buy or sell puts or calls on contracts that commonly run for up to three years. This is as opposed to the three, six, and nine month terms for standard traded options. LEAPS are used by investors to hedge risk. For example, an investor can purchase shares of a rapidly rising stock and also buys LEAPS puts on the stock. This way he guards against an unexpected downturn. If the stock does fall he executes the LEAPS put option and sells his stock. Because LEAPS contracts last for as long as three years there is no need to continually exit one contract and enter into another unless the stock price rises so far that the initial LEAPS contract is totally out of date. Picking the Right Times Selecting profitable options requires seeing market inefficiency and executing timely trades. In general, one sees a mispriced option, usually low, and buys it. Then, when the market corrects to a better price the trader exits his position with a profit. However, there are also times when the market inefficiency is at the end of a trade. Something happens that scares the market and the price of your options contract goes way up. You may not have expected this but you exit your trade and take your profit nevertheless. To the extent that you can predict this sort of opportunity is also part of selecting profitable options. http://youtu.be/B8Rv8c13DHw

Selecting a Married Put, ITM Strangle vs. Married Put, ITM Bull Put Spreads and More!

01:16:42
In our 'Ides of March' Expiration Q&A Session we answered your options investing questions live! Our attendees asked questions ranging from: Proper Married Put structure and stock criteria for the strategy, comparing the limited risk structure to a leveraged ITM Strangle, Pros and Cons of an ITM Bull Put spread, a look at PowerOptions Signature tools to identify Parity Trades and the best Long Options, managing a long call that has gone against you and more! Here is a full breakdown of the content in this archived webinar: 1. John S: I am thinking of opening a Married Put / RadioActive Trade on MTCH...just hoping to get a 2nd pair of eyes. (0:00 to 23:20) - We break down our approach to selecting a put option for the proper coverage on a stock, what stock criteria we would look for in the RadioActive Strategy and adjusting the Search criteria on PowerOptions. 2. Sam: Why not use an ITM Strangle instead of the Married Put? (23:25 to 38:58) - We take a look at the comparison of substituting an ITM Long Call for the stock in the Married Put, and why we don't consider this a reasonable alternative to the RadioActive Structure. 3. Sam: Can we take a look at an ITM Bull Put spread? (39:11 to 47:05) - Sam presents and interesting high reward, low risk Bull Put spread - and we break down the risks of this approach and alternatives with the same structure. 4. Luis: Can you use the Signature Tools on PowerOptions for better parity? (47:15 to 51:35) - Yes! We look at our Spread Chain tool to see the Parity Views of Credit to Debit spread, and walk through using the Long Option Finder (which Luis has had great success with) to find the best long call or long put to buy. 5. John S: I have heard straddles & strangles reflect what the market maker thinks the price range will be during the time to expiration... (51:49 to 54:00) - In a sense, yes. The cost of the straddle or strangle reflects the Implied Volatility of both options, but it does not mean that higher IV straddles or strangles are more winners than lower IV spreads. 6. Kaushik: Can we review a long call on IQ that is currently down? What repairs or defense could I consider? (54:30 to 59:00) - We take a look at this position, discuss some ideas for defense, management or exit, and reference our full presentation on Managing a Long Call position and Fixing a Broken Stock. 7. Luis: Why not use a Poor Man's Covered Call to repair the IQ position? (59:00 to 1:07:15) - It is a possibility (and discussed in the full webinars). We look at why this may or may not be a good approach...and the concerns again of using the term 'Poor Man's Covered Call'. 8. Fernando: If I am short stock, what can you do to hedge / protect the position? (1:07:15 to 1:12:00) - We take a look at building a short collar or married call against the short stock position, and alternatives to using a Married Call when opening a new short position. 9. 1:12:05 to end: Wrap Up. (We did have another discussion with John F. after the recording was stopped on managing a Bear Put Debit Spread that is going against him. This was not included, but you will see more information on that this week).

Make a Cell Drop Down List in Excel for Easy Data Entry

03:00
To make data entry easy, and help prevent errors, make an in cell drop down list in Excel. First, create a list of items in an Excel table. Then use Excel data validation to make the drop down list with those items. People can quickly select from your list, instead of typing. Go to my website to get the free Excel workbook. http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal01.html '---------------------- Transcript for How to Make a Cell Drop Down List in Excel 2010 In this workbook, we have a list where we're going to assign staff members to each week. I'd like a drop down list in this cell so it's easy to select a name. On another sheet in the file, I've created a list of names with the title Employees at the top. The first step will be to create a Named Table, and to do that, I'll go to the ribbon, and click the Insert tab, then click Table. Here's the Create Table window, and it's already selected the range where my list is. I'm going to say yes there are headers because this cell is a header, so check that box and click OK. We now have a table and if I click somewhere in that table, I can see its name up here in the Table Name box. I'm going to use these employee names in my drop down list. The next step will be to give an Excel name to the range of cells where the employee names are. I'm going up to the ribbon, and on the Formula tab and in this Defined Names group, I'll click Define Name. I'm going to call this EmpList, the short version of Employee List. The scope will be the workbook, I want to be able to use this name anywhere in the workbook. I won't add a comment, and right now it's just showing the cell I have selected on the worksheet. I'm going to delete that. For the Refers To, I want it to refer to this table. I'm going to click an =, and click this button to go to the worksheet. If I move my pointer just to the top of the column, and click there, it picks up that table and shows the name of the column. This is Table 1 and the Employees column. Click the button to go back into the Dialog box. This name is going to be equal to whatever is in that column and as the column grows or shrinks, it's going to keep track of it for us. Click OK and we now have a name in our workbook that we can use in a drop down list. I'm going back to the other sheet. These are the cells where we want the drop down list. I'll select all of those cells, and on the ribbon, go to the Data tab, and click Data Validation. Instead of just any value, we want to allow a list. In this source box, I'm going to type an =. On your keyboard, press the F3 key, and that opens up a list with names. There's the name I created. I'll select that and click OK, and it puts it in for us. When I click OK now, I've got data validation. So each cell that I click on, you'll see the drop down arrow. I can select anyone of the names, go down, and assign an employee to each week without trying to remember all the names. It creates that list so the data entry is easy for us. Option Chains – Adjusting the Strike and Expiration Intervals

01:00
Currently all of the columns are displaying data for a single long call or long put. If you would like to see spread pricing then select a spread from the “Type” control located in the upper left corner of the Option Chains panel. Here I am selecting a vertical spread. Notice that OptionStation Pro will refresh the option chains with the one strike interval Vertical spreads. The Vertical spread construction can be modified by adjusting the “Strike Interval” control. For example, by increase the interval to 3 will cause OptionStation Pro to reconstruct the vertical spreads with 3 strikes between the legs. Next I’ll select a Calendar spread. Now the “Expiration Interval” control can be used to adjust the construction of the Calendar spreads. Notice, every time I change the expiration interval, OptionStation Pro refreshes the option chain with the next expiration term groupings.

Working with a select list in Angular Template Driven forms 2. How to have one of the select list option selected by default 3. How to disable select list Let us understand working with a select element in Angular with a simple example. We want to include "Department" select list. For the HTML used in the demo, please refer to my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2018/01/angular-bootstrap-select-list.html At the moment, we have hard coded the select list options in the HTML. In our next video we will discuss, how to get the select list options from the component class. Notice each option also has a corresponding value. The value is the department id which is what we want to save in the database table when the form is submitted. We will discuss, saving the data to a database table in a later video. At this point, when we select an option, the corresponding option value is included against the "department" property in the Angular auto-generated form model. Also when we click the "Save" button, the "department" property along with the selected option value is logged to the console in browser developer tools. How to have one of the select list option selected by default If we include "selected" attribute on one of the options of the select list, we expect that option to be selected by default when the form initially loads, but when the form reloads, the respective option will not be selected. If you remove the "ngModel" directive from the select list, then the the option gets selected as expected. In Angular, we use "ngModel" directive for two-way data binding. So the moment we put it back in place the "selected" attribute does not work. To make it work include "department" property in the component class and initialise it with one of the option value which you want to have selected by default. In our case, we want the "IT" option to be selected by default. The "IT option value is "3". So, I have initialised "department" property with a value of '3' department = '3' At this point you will have "IT" option selected by default when the form loads. Now, even if we remove the "selected" attribute from the "IT" option, it is still selected by default when the form loads. This is because of the two-way data binding that we get with "ngModel" directive. How to disable a select list : To disable a select element, use the disabled attribute Another important point to keep in mind. By default, disabled form controls are not included in the Angular auto generated form model. Since, the "department" select element is disabled, it will not be included in the Angular generated form model. In our form, we do not want the select element to be disabled, so please remove the disabled attribute. Also, we do not want any option to be selected by default, so remove the "department" property from the component class. In our next video, we will discuss, how to get the select list options from the component class, instead of having them hard-coded in the HTML.

Extract Data based on a drop down list selection in Excel

11:20
In this video tutorial, learn how to extract or filter data in Excel based on a drop down selection. This Excel trick is extremely useful in situations where you have a huge dataset and you want to extract part of it by making a selection. For example, suppose you have the sales transaction records or various products. You can use this technique to select the product item from the drop down list and all the records for that item would get extracted and listed separately. Since this is dynamic, you can change the selection from the drop down, and the results would update. There are three steps in extracting data based on a drop down selection: -- Create a Unique list of items. -- Add a drop down to display these unique items. -- Use helper columns to extract the records for the selected item. It also uses Excel formulas (INDEX, MATCH, ROWS, SMALL) to extract the data based on the drop down selection. It can work for extracting the data on the same or different worksheet in Excel Step-by-step written tutorial and download file: https://trumpexcel.com/extract-data-from-drop-down-list/ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Find Amazing Online Excel Tips and Tricks: https://trumpexcel.com/ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Let's Connect: Google+ ► https://plus.google.com/+Trumpexcel Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/Trumpexcel Twitter ► https://twitter.com/TrumpExcel Pinterest ► https://in.pinterest.com/trumpexcel/ TrumpExcel Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/trumpexcel

Probability, Debit Spread vs. Credits, Stock Repair and Stock Protection

01:22:43
As we wrap up 6 months into the trading year, the questions on our Friday session focused mostly on probability ideas, strategy concepts, trade management and adjusting, protecting stock positions and more. Here is a breakdown of what you will see in this webinar: 1. David (via email): How reliable are the probability above and below values on PowerOptions? (0 mins to 7:30 min) - We take a look at the probability values, when those values are thrown into chaos, look at the top 15 or so Naked Puts from last weeks weekly search, analyze the results to show reliability. 2. David (Part II): My Main strategy is Bear Put Debit spreads. Any thoughts you have would be of interest... (7:30 to 18:45 min) - We look at Parity trades, Bear Put Debit vs. Bear Call Credit, pros and cons of each, compare returns using our Spread Chain tool, the risk of ITM Debits and the alternative Debit Spread structure. 3. Alan: I have a Naked Put on BA that is now In the Money...what can I do to repair the position? (18:55 to 31:40 mins) - We look at the Portfolio tools for tracking and analyzing roll outs, discuss the 5 or 6 options to adjust the position, look at the Stock Repair tool and evaluate repairs. 4. John: I inherited shares of PEP. What Put would you use to protect / insure those shares? (31:45 to 47:22) - We look at what put I would use right now if I was opening a new Married Put, then show how to find the best put based on your cost basis using our Insurance tool. We discuss the '3 Bears' of selecting a protective put when opening new or locking in gains. (Inside this conversation we go back to the BA position briefly, then come back to the PEP Married Put) 5. PM: What are your thoughts on buying a call or put? (47:58 to 53:23) - We look at the PowerOptions criteria for buying calls and buying puts, discuss the risks of buying short term (weekly) options for new investors and illustrate using the Long Option Finder to find the call or put that would give you the most bang for your buck. 6: Bill: Complications on using ETFs for spreads as you can lose due to the slippage of the settlement cost. (53:26 - 55:15 min) - More of a comment than a question, but we discuss the fears of waiting for the settlement price to be calculated if your spread is close on an Index or ETF and the benefits of closing early. 7 Darrell: Was assigned 1300 shares of RCL at 105 strike and sold a call. Why would I want to sell an At or just OTM call if I want to hold the stock? (55:30 to 59:16) - You likely wouldn't. In this case a 106 strike call was sold that was just OTM, one week out. More premium could be received with a higher strike if we just went further out. We look at the difference between the two. 8. Rhajiv: Can you look at a few of my Bull Call Debits on PEP and JNJ? (59:30 to 1 hr 5 min) - Of course. We take a look at Rahjiv's OTM Bull Call spreads, analyzing the time remaining vs. potential profit. 9. Fernando: When is the best time to Roll Up the put in a RadioActive Trade? (1 hr 5 min to 1 hr 17 min) - We take a look at income method #4 in the RadioActive Trading techniques, comparing different ideas on moving up the put to show which one gives us the best reduction in risk and debit price. 10. Wrap-up, and other information

Credit Spread

07:02
http://damonverial.com/11-easy-gap-trading-strategies/ Credit Spread A credit spread consists of two put options (or call options if you’re bearish on the stock) that are identical except for the strike price. The more expensive of the two options should be sold, while the other is bought. The sold option brings you immediate income; the bought option protects your max loss. When you play a credit spread by opening two options positions at the same time, you’re doing it mainly to prevent yourself against risk while gaining the rewards that come with selling (aka writing) naked options. You can exit a credit spread early by buying it back, either at a loss or a gain. Your other option is to simply ride the credit spread out until the expiration date; if you were right, nothing happens, but you keep the money you already gained by selling the credit spread. http://damonverial.com/11-easy-gap-trading-strategies/ Credit Spread http://damonverial.com/11-easy-gap-trading-strategies/

With the same signs appearing in the stock market today, I thought it would be cool to go over it, as the Hindenburg Omen can point us to the best stocks to watch & best stocks to buy as it tells us about volatility and how the market feels. I go over this, then discuss some of the recent stocks I bought/trades I made, and highlight the strategy of selecting the best longer term options.
