Queen Elizabeth officially opens Scottish Borders Railway - Daily Mail

01:40
The Queen today surpasses the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria to become Britain's longest-reigning monarch. But rather than mark the milestone with high-profile celebrations, it is business as usual for Her Majesty as she carries out official duties in Scotland. With Prince Philip by her side, the Queen was greeted by cheering crowds (top left) as she arrived in the village of Tweedbank, where she opened the new £294million Scottish Borders Railway. In a speech to hundreds of well-wishers, the monarch thanked supporters for their 'touching messages of great kindness' on a day she described as a 'milestone', adding it was one she had never aspired to reach. Meanwhile, David Cameron led tributes to the Queen as the royal rowbarge Gloriana led a flotilla of boats down the River Thames in her honour (bottom left). Queen Elizabeth II calls for European unity in Berlin - Daily Mail

Britain and Germany must work together to prevent 'dangerous' division breaking out across the European continent, the Queen has warned in tonight's State Banquet speech in Berlin (pictured left). Addressing political leaders and heads of industry and the arts, the Queen said the two countries must work hard to maintain the harmony of post-war Europe. Her speech came just minutes after Prince Philip was caught candidly breaking out in a fit of laughter (inset) while the two proved extremely popular with guests as Her Majesty toasted and chatted with those present (right). A spokeswoman said: The Queen does not yet feel ready to attend church as she is still recuperating from a heavy cold.' The sovereign and Prince Philip, 95, were forced to delay their journey to their usual Christmas residence in Norfolk on December 21 because both were suffering from what was officially described as 'heavy colds'. Taken by renowned American photographer Annie Leibovitz at Windsor Castle last month, these remarkable pictures – which, in their lighting and composition, echo the great royal oil paintings of the past – have been released by Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday today. They are portraits not only of a monarch, but of a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother too. It was, said one who was involved in the process, a deliberate decision by the sovereign. For as much as this day has become a national celebration, it is also very much a family event too. After all, Elizabeth is a proud great-grandmother five times over. 10 Royal Rules Queen Elizabeth Has Broken For Meghan Markle

Queen Elizabeth Bends The Royal Rules For Duchess Meghan Markle Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/hHvOf8 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Royal Family is such an institution that we can’t imagine life without them. Many fans love keeping tabs on their style, seeing their antics, or hearing about their drama. Some think that it’s high time the Royals move out and become just like everyone else. But where’s the fun in that? Instead, we’d much rather see how the Royals are adapting to the modern world they live in. Gone are the days when only men inherited the throne or when royals stayed very far away from anything political. It seems the Royal family are starting to get more comfortable with breaking the rules. The younger ones like Prince Harry are infamous for being rebellious, but did you know that the Queen herself is starting to forgo some royal protocol? She’s particularly let a lot of things slide for a relatively new member of the family, Meghan Markle. We’ve got all the details in the video below, so get to watching! The Duke of Edinburgh has been the Queen's steadfast companion for nearly 70 years. Queen Elizabeth: ‘I'm Still Alive, Anyway’

© Paul Hackett / Reuters Keeping calm and carrying on, the Queen displays an enviable sense of perspective as she issues a measured judgment on the Brexit drama. During a meeting with Northern Ireland's First Minister Martin McGuinness, McGuinness inquired how she was doing, to which the Queen replied, "Well, I'm still alive anyway," flashing him a smile, which may or may not have referred to the fact that Mr McGuinness has proudly admitted that he spent his early years as a senior member of the IRA, which spent much of its time trying to figure out ways to render the Queen and members of her family un-alive. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thedailybeast/articles/~3/nLACDgHp5T4/queen-declares-i-m-still-alive-after-brexit-drama.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

They have to jump through official hoops for things that would be super simple for an ordinary couple, like choosing where they live. Queen Elizabeth reportedly denied Harry and Meghan attempts to start an entirely independent household outside of Buckingham Palace. A source revealed, "They wanted their household to be entirely independent of Buckingham Palace, but were told 'no,'" So it sounds like there are huge restrictions there. Now, while they weren’t allowed to establish their own court, they were allowed to split their royal household from Prince William and Kate Middleton. It doesn’t come as a surprise the couple wanted to go their separate ways. There have been endless rumors going around about a feud between Meghan and Kate. Now it’s been noted that the queen and Kate seem to have gotten closer, and it could have something to do with the split. Kate and the queen of England stepped out together for the first time since March 2012, but even then they were joined by the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, during a visit to Leicester. Considering Kate married Prince William back in 2011, she waited a whole eight years before being able to attend an official public engagement with the monarch on her own. It’s actually been a tradition since 1784 that the British monarch’s birthday celebrations are held on a day that is not their actual birthday. She was only a tween when she fell in love with her distant cousin According to a 1957 article in TIME, Prince Philip met Elizabeth, his third cousin, when they were children (they shared the same great-great-grandparents, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who were first cousins themselves). in 2007 Queen Elizabeth became the first British monarch to celebrate her diamond wedding anniversary with 60 years of marriage to Prince Philip Her grandmother disapproved of one of her wedding gifts During her reign, the Queen has received some interesting gifts from jaguars and sloths to a grove of maple trees and 15 pounds of prawns. But it was one of her 1947 wedding gifts that had her grandmother concerned: According to the BBC’s royal correspondent at the time, Elizabeth’s grandmother, Queen Mary, disapproved of Mahatma Gandhi’s present of hand-spun lace calling it “indelicate.” She’s the longest-reigning monarch in British history On February 6, 2017 the Queen became the first British monarch to reign for 65 years, celebrating her Sapphire Jubilee. British photographer David Bailey, where the Queen is wearing a suite of sapphire jewels she received as a wedding day gift from her father, King George VI, in 1947 She has a few nicknames Back when she was still Princess Elizabeth, she was called “Lilibet” by close family, because she couldn’t pronounce her own name, while her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, is known to call her “Cabbage.” Then there are her great-grandchildren. “George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan,’” the prince’s mother, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, The queen’s full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. , more traditional names are still favored for middle names and over 10 percent of British babies today are still given two middle names Her father ascended to the throne after Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, became king after his older brother, King Edward VIII, abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, an American socialite divoe. This was scdalous as Simpson was still legally married to her second husband when they first got together and the abdication was the biggest constitutional cis in modern royal history. Supposedly bd blood existed between “the Duke and Duchess of Windsor” (Edward & Wallis) and the royal family. She has never given an interview in her entire reign Dubbed “Elizabeth the silent” by historian David Starkey, according to a New York Times article, Queen Elizabeth II has never given a press interview. She is said to keep her politics hidden from the public eye at all times. She was rued to have an affair private life of Queen Elizabeth II, takes many liberties with real-life royal events. One such liberty is based on rumors of an affair between her and childhood friend Porchie. It’s true that Porchie, aka Lord Porchester, and later Earl of Carnarvon, was extremely close to the Queen, and that in 1969 she took him on as her racing manager, but there’s never been evidence of a romance. However, rumors claiming that he is Prince Andrew’s biological father Before she donned her trademark brightly colored dresses, coats, and matching hats, the Queen wore a milry uniform. Her father, the king at the time, was hesitant to let her join, but she eventually joined the Women’s Auxiry Territorial Service in 1945. She’s a dog lover We’ve all seen the classic images: Queen Elizabeth II accompanied by her iconic corgis. But do you know the real extent of her love for corgis? She received her first, Susan, as a birthday present when she turned 18, according to the New York Times. She’s exempt from the usual documentation The Queen can drive without a license, because they’re all actually issued in her name in the United Kingdom, according to Express. On her over 250 international visits to over 100 countries, she’s never needed a passport, for the same reason. She owns exotic animals The rumors are true—Queen Elizabeth II really does own all the swans in the United Kingdom. Every year, she has a team row through the River Thames in London to count the babies. In 2018, her “swan uppers” counted 108 cygnets.
