Manually Installing and Configuring MySQL 5.7 on Windows 10

31:12
I manually install and configure a local MySQL database server. This involves troubleshooting some error messages that you might encounter. I also create a test database and a second user who is granted access to it. ** Note: The my-default.ini file is no longer included in version 5.7.18 or later. Refer to https://youtu.be/ZnAmRF8TTpA if you really need it. Table of contents 1:02 Downloading the Community Server. 2:16 Extracting the program to disk. 3:25 Starting the server for the first time. 4:32 Creating a data directory to hold database and log files. 5:00 Allow Windows Firewall to allow the database to use private networks. 5:50 Starting the server to display server logs to the screen using the --console parameter. 6:18 Exploring the "table mysql.user doesn't exist error" message. 7:00 Viewing the server command line options. 7:45 Initializing the database to create the mysql.user table and other necessary tables. 10:32 Starting the server with an initialized database. 11:05 Logging in as the root user for the first time. 12:15 Changing the root password. This assumes that you are logged into the database as the root user. 13:48 Changing the root password using the --init-file option if you have forgotten what this password is. 16:13 Troubleshooting the (Errcode: 2 - No such file or directory) message when using the --init-file option when the file is present. 17:40 Looking at the warning messages displayed on the screen. How to Set Up MySQL Replication

03:08
In this easy step by step tutorial, you will learn how to replicate the contents of MySQL database. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.Facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on Facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Introduction MySQL Replication basically allows the contents of the master database server in MySQL to be replicated to other database servers. In this tutorial we will show you how to set up MySQL replication through phpMyAdmin. Step#1: Getting Started with Replication To get started, first of all, log in to your php my admin panel, and then click on the Replication tab on the top. Step#2: Replication Plan From there, click on the Configure option, under the Master Replication section. With that done, the master configuration section will expand, having a list of databases and a replication plan as well. Step#3: Create new Database Here, you can either Replicate All databases while ignoring the ones selected, or the other way round, that is, ignore all the databases and replicate the ones which would be selected. Let's choose the second plan and then select the database named "test" over here. With that done, copy the lines shown below the list. These have to be added in the MySQL "my.ini" file. Step#4: MY.INI File Since we are using the XAMPP server, the "my.ini" file can be fetched by clicking on the Config button and choosing the "my.ini" option against the MySQL Module. Step#5: Setting up MY.INI File Once the file opens up, navigate to the "log_error" parameter, and just paste the copied lines beneath that. With that done, change the "max allowed packet" size to 16 MB. Once you are done with that, scroll down the file and comment out the "server-id" parameter with a hash sign. When you are done with that, save the file and then restart the services of both Mysql and Apache. Step#6: Master Replication Setup After that, switch back to your phpMyAdmin page, and hit the F5 key to refresh the panel. With that done, move over to the Replication tab again. There you will find that the Master Replication has been set up successfully. You can click on the Show Master Status option to see its status. Now, click on the Add Slave Replication user option to add a Replication user Step#7: Creating Replication User Specify the username and the host, and then click on the Go button. A replication user would be added as a result. Step#8: Slave Replication Setup Now open up the Replication tab again, and click on the Configure option under the Slave Replication section. Another page will open up, and from here, copy the Server id which has to be pasted in the "my.ini" file. So let's open up the "my.ini" file again and locate the "server-id " parameter which we had commented earlier. Over here, simply paste the Server id copied from the Slave configuration, save the file and restart the MySQL services. Step#9: Updating Slave Configuration Now switch back to the Slave Replication page again, and specify the user details which were created before. With that done, click on the Go button. A message will appear that the Master server had changed successfully. Step#10: Warning Messages Now, if you open the Replication tab once more, you will notice two warning messages appearing in the Slave Replication portion. One would be regarding the Slave SQL Thread and the other would be regarding the Slave IO Thread, both of which won't be running. To resolve these errors, simply click on the Control Slave option, and Start these threads one after another. You will notice that the warning messages would disappear. Step#11: Verifying Replicated database Now click on the Databases tab and here you can see that the test database has been replicated successfully. This means that we have setup and configured MySQL replication. And this is how to set up MySQL replication using phpMyAdmin.

How to Set ODBC MySQL Driver

02:09
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to setup MySql ODBC driver for windows and how it is configured. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ ODBC stands for Open Database Connectivity. It is used to provide a connection for the database. It acts like a bridge between the database manager and the Operating System. With this driver installed and configured, we can use our database with various applications such as spreadsheets, reporting tools or various other software suits. In this tutorial we will learn to set up the same my sql ODBC driver Step 1- Download First, let's download my sql ODBC driver. It can be downloaded from dev.mysql.com. Over there, choose the version according to the operating system we are running. For this tutorial, we will be setting the ODBC MySQL driver in windows. Step 2- Installation After finishing with the download, run the setup for installation. Just follow the step by step process of the installation wizard to install the driver. Step 3- System Settings After the installation, we have to configure the connection. For that, open up the Control panel and click on the System and Security option. Step 4-Admin tools A window will open up with several options in it, open up the Administrative Tools option from there. Step 5-Data Source All of the Administrative tools would be displayed in a separate window. We have to setup our database connection, so for that click ODBC Data Sources option. Step 6- Adding System DSN A window will open up having different tabs in it. Choose System DSN tab and then click Add button on right. Step 7- Choosing ODBC option A window will open up having the list of ODBC drivers in it. As we have to configure our ODBC driver for MySQL, choose My SQL ODBC Driver option and click on Finish. Step 8-Configuring the Connection With that done, the odbc mysql configuration window will open up. In that window, give the data source a name, if MySQL instance is installed in the same pc in which we are setting up the ODBC driver, give "localhost" as a name of TCP IP server and leave the port as default. Give the appropriate user name for which you have granted access to your database, here let us assign "root" in user as it has access to all the databases by default and leave password field blank as root is configured with empty password by default. After that, we have to choose the required database which we want to be linked through this connection from the databases drop down menu in the bottom. After that, click OK button. Step 9- Connection Appeared In List The connection would appear in the System DSN Connections list. This connection basically contains the information of the server on which MySQL is installed and the database which has to be used. And this is how MySQL ODBC driver is setup in windows.

Optimizing MySQL Configuration

01:03:41
MySQL's configuration file is often the focus of too much attention and too much tweaking of variables that make no difference — or worse, have the potential to negatively impact performance. The sample default configuration files that come with MySQL are unfortunately not very helpful or good, either. You'll learn a practical approach to generate a sensible configuration file that sets what's needed and omits what isn't. The result will be a more stable and performant server that's resistant to many common problems. Presented by Peter Zaitsev at Percona Webinars -- March 14th, 2012.

Optimizing MySQL without SQL or touching my.cnf

42:59
Maxim Bublis, SRE, Peter Boros, Storage SRE - databases, Dropbox deliver their talk, "Optimizing MySQL without SQL or touching my.cnf", on DAY 2 of the Percona Live Open Source Database Conference 2017, 4/26, at Santa Clara, CA. At Dropbox, with 1000s of machines running MySQL, performance is important. Among other things, out team is responsible for our MySQL servers being tuned well. In this talk, we will talk about the performance impact of “environmental” MySQL tuning, where the tuning is neither at the SQL level (like creating indexes or using different table structures), nor with setting MySQL parameters (tuning parameters like innodb_buffer_pool_size or innodb_log_file_size even more obscure ones like innodb_lru_scan_depth). Instead, in the talk we will cover the following areas (we won’t limit the talk to these): - Operating system level tuning opportunities - Compiling MySQL: does it worth to build your own from the performance perspective? - Building MySQL with different compilers - Building MySQL with profile-guided optimization - Impact of using different memory allocators - CPU and memory affinity with running multiple instances The experiments we conducted here helped us to make more educated decisions about how to run MySQL at Dropbox. https://www.percona.com/live/17/sessions/optimizing-mysql-without-sql-or-touching-mycnf

MySQL Workbench Database Export and Import

08:08
Learn Database Export and Import using MySQL Workbench. Open MySQL Workbench and logged in to MySQL database server using 'root' username and password. In previous couple of videos we learned how to Create, Alter, Drop Databases and Tables and also how to Insert, Read, Update, Delete data rows using MySQL Workbench. In this lecture we will learn how to Export and Import the database using MySQL Workbench. First of all to Export the databases or tables, from top menu 'Server' select 'Data Export' Option, which opens a new window of data export settings and options. The left section on the window displays all the existing databases on our MySQL database server. When we select a database by clicking on it, it displays all the respected tables under the selected database. We can select one or multiple database check-boxes to include the database in the Export file. Under 'Export Options' section, You can change the default export path of you choice. I'll keep the default one. By selecting first option that is 'Export to Dump Project Folder'. MySQL Workbench will save the save all tables as separate SQL file under one folder. Which is useful when you will be importing or restoring the export file one by one table. I'll go ahead quickly and first save as 'Export to Dump Project Folder', MySQL Workbench displays the progress bar and log. Now, I'll again export the database using 'Export to Self-contained File' option. To demonstrate the import first I'll delete the existing 'students' table under 'mytestdb' database. Display database details by clicking on 'i' symbol, select 'tables' tab. Select and right click 'students' table, and click 'Drop Table' option, confirm and delete the table. Click 'refresh' to update the tables section and we have no table in our 'mytestdb' database. Now select the database and from 'data import' window, select 'import from dump folder. 'Load folder contents' and select only 'mytestdb' database and click start import button to import 'students' table again. Go to 'mytestdb' database information window again and click 'refresh' button to reload table list again. and the 'students' table is back. I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create. --- Video Transcript Time - 00:00 Hello. In this tutorial, you will learn how to connect to a MySQL database with Java. In this session we’re going to learn how to connect a MySQL database with Java. Before we get started there are some prep work that needs to take place. One is that you need to have a MySQL database already installed. If not, you can download one from the site listed here on the slide. Time - 00:20 Next, we’ll need to download and install a MySQL JDBC driver. This driver will allow the Java program to connect to the database. You can download it from this URL, and I’ll do that now. I’ll just take this URL, drop it into my favorite browser and here I am at the page. I’m on this page, this is for downloading the Connector/J browser. I’ll select the platform, platform independent. Now move down and I’ll select download and it will download a zip archive. Make sure you download the most recent version. In this case it’s 5.1.29. Make sure you download something at that version or later. Time - 01:04 Download, scroll down, select, “No thanks, just start my download.” This will start downloading the file for you. Now what we can do is show it in the finder. I’ll double click it to extract it. At this point I have the driver extracted. There’s a file in here called MySQL connector.jar that we’ll use later. Time - 01:34 Next, what I need to do is create a Java project in Eclipse. Let’s do that. On Eclipse I’ll say I’ll save file, new, Java project. This will be JDBC demo and I will select finish. What I’ll do is I will add a new class. New, class, this will be my driver and it will have a public static void main region. At this point we have a shell for our project created. Time - 02:28 Next, what we’ll do is we will talk to the actual development process and I really like this slide because it outlines exactly what we need to do. The first thing we’ll do is add the database driver to the classpath. Next, we’ll get a connection, we’ll submit a SQL query and then we’ll process the result set. Time - 02:48 Let’s start with step one, adding a MySQL database driver to the classpath. In our Eclipse project I’m going to add a new folder called lib, lib for library. In this lib folder I’m going to add the driver that I downloaded earlier. What I’ll do is I’ll just grab this driver. It’s the MySQL connector bin.jar and I’ll just drag and drop it to this lib folder. It will prompt me and I’ll say go ahead and copy the file. Time - 03:25 Next, I need to add the jar file, the driver to the classpath. I’ve set this up with properties, choose Java build path and then I’ll choose add jars. Expand this folder, that lib, I’ll grab that jar file and I’ll have it setup. Great. Time - 03:51 Now we can start coding. We need to get a connection, submit a SQL query and process a result set. Let me just sketch this out on a slide over here. The first thing I’ll do up top is I’ll just do an import on java.sql.* because all of the classes and interfaces that we need are in this package. Time - 04:17 I’ll also just setup a try catch block just to handle for any exception that may occur. Small typo there. Time - 04:40 Inside of this section I’m going to first get a connection to database. Then next I will create a statement. Then from here I will execute a SQL query and then I will process the result set. Time - 05:16 That’s my basic game plan, let’s fill it in with some real code. Here I’ll say connection, myConn = DriverManager.getConnection. I’ll give the jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/demo student, student. Student is the user ID and student is also the password. This tutorial will focus on one of the same scenario in which we will learn to open MySQL database. Step 1- Control Panel To link MySQL with Access, first of all, we would have to make an ODBC connection. For this purpose, open up control panel and click on the System and Security option Step 2-Administrative Tools After that, move to the Administrative Tools option. Step 3-ODBC Connection Option Click on the ODBC data source option. Step 4- Making System DSN ODBC data source admin window will open up. Over here, move to the DSN tab and click on the Add button. Step 5- Driver for MySQL Now scroll down the list, choose MySQL ODBC driver and click on the Finish button. Step 6- Configuring ODBC Connector A configuration window will open up. Give a name to the data source, type "local host" in the server field, specify "root" as a user, because it is a default user in all MySQL instances, and write the name of the desired database in the database field. Finally, click on the Test button. Step 7- Connection TEST A message will pop up confirming that the connection is successful. This means that now we would be able to link MySQL with Access. Step 8- Microsoft Access Now, open up Microsoft access, click on the Blank database option and let's create a new database. Step 9- External Data After that, move to the "External Data" tab and click on the More option. With that done, a drop down menu will appear on the screen. From the menu, choose the ODBC database option. Step 10- Linked Table Within the new window, choose the "Link to data source" option and hit Enter. Step 11- Machine Data Sources A window will open up where we will be required to choose the data source connection. Over here, move over to the Machine Data Source tab, choose the same DSN which was created earlier and hit Enter. Step 12- Selecting tables After that, it will show us all the tables which our database contains. We can choose any table individually or select all of them. For this tutorial, we will select all the tables in the database. Step 13-Database Imported to Access After that, all of the database tables would appear in Microsoft Access And that is how to open Mysql database from Access.

Web Server Project -- 02 Setting up MySQL and PHP

11:01
Here's how to get your database and interpreter set up for hosting an application on the LAMP/LEMP stack (Linux / Apache/Nginx / MySQL / PHP). This is the second of three videos about how to set up a webserver (and a WordPress blog or website on Linux). In this video, I'll show you how to install and configure a MySQL Database. I'll also show you how to set up PHP and php-fpm (our PHP interpreter and the fastcgi process manager) so that nginx can ask PHP to render pages with dynamic content for website visitors. This video is quick-and-dirty -- no optimization, only the most basic security precautions, etc...but it should get you started. Here's the nginx configuration file content for /etc/nginx/sites-available/{yoursite}: server { listen 80 default_server; listen [::]:80 default_server ipv6only=on; root /usr/share/nginx/html; index index.php index.html index.htm; server_name server_domain_name_or_IP; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ =404; } error_page 404 /404.html; error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /usr/share/nginx/html; } location ~ \.php$ { try_files $uri =404; fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+\.php)(/.+)$; fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include fastcgi_params; } } Full Linux Sysadmin Basics Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtK75qxsQaMLZSo7KL-PmiRarU7hrpnwK Check out my project-based Linux System Administration course (free sample videos): https://www.udemy.com/hands-on-linux-self-hosted-wordpress-for-linux-beginners/?couponCode=tl35 Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/tutorialinux Official Site: https://tutorialinux.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/tutorialinux Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tutorialinux

Follow this step by step easy tutorial to learn how to enable the query Log in MySQL and see how to make log file. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Query logs are very useful, as they provide the record of the queries executed against the databases. These can help the programmers, Database developers and Administrators as well in trouble shooting the problems that sometimes arise. Additionally, these logs also play a very vital role in a scenario where transactions are performed against the database very much frequently for example in the case of banks, airlines etc. In MySQL, query log feature is not enabled by default; however we can enable it through just some simple steps. So in this tutorial we will focus on the same task, which would be to enable MySQL query Log. Step 1- Opening My.ini File To enable mysql query logging, just open up the my.ini file from the MySql Folder through the Wamp icon located in the taskbar Step 2- Specifying Log File Name Navigate to the end of the page, and just add the following line: Log=file_log.log Here, file_log is the filename, it can be any name over here but .log should be the extension of all the log files. Now just save the file and then close it. Step 3- Restarting WAMP Restart the Wamp services for the changes to take effect. For that, click on Wamp Server icon located on the taskbar usually, and click "Restart All Services" option. Step 4- Opening MySQL Console Having done that, let's open up the MySQL console to write a query to see whether it's logged or not. For that, click on Wamp Server, move to MySQL folder and then choose MySQL console option from the list. Step 5- Writing a simple query Now let us just write a simple query just to check whether mysql query logging has been enabled or not. Step 6- navigating inside MySQL directory To view the log file, open up the Data Folder in the MySQL directory. In this folder, we will find and open the log file that we specified earlier. Step 7- Verify the Log Once we open up the log file, you can see that all the details regarding the query that we entered are logged here. And this is how we can enable mysql query log.
