Through rigorous research, Gallup has identified 12 core elements that link to key organizational outcomes. These 12 statements emerged as those that best predict employee and workgroup performance. Creating a culture of engagement requires more than completing an annual employee survey and then leaving managers on their own, hoping they will learn something from the results that will change the way they manage. It requires an organization to take a close look at how critical engagement elements align with how managers understand and manage employee needs.

Human Resource Management includes conducting job analyses, planning personnel needs, recruiting the right people for the job, orienting and training, managing wages and salaries, providing benefits and incentives, evaluating performance, resolving disputes, and communicating with all employees at all levels. Examples of core qualities of HR management are extensive knowledge of the industry, leadership, and effective negotiation skills. Formerly called personnel management. Human resource management: A degree or level of freedom and discretion allowed to an employee over his or her job. As a general rule, jobs with high degree of autonomy engender a sense of responsibility and greater job satisfaction in the employee(s). Not every employee, however, prefers a job with high degree of responsibility.

In today’s HR Basics, we explore mandatory and voluntary employee benefits and benefit administration. Employee Benefits include all compensation other than hourly wage or base salary. Employee benefits are the programs an employer uses to supplement the cash compensation employees receive. These health, income protection, savings and retirement programs provide security for employees and their families. In this course, we will provide an overview of mandatory benefits, voluntary benefits, and benefit administration issues. Mandatory Benefits In the United States include Social Security, workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, and family and medical leave. Additionally, beginning in 2015, employers are responsible for the Employer Shared Responsibility provision of the Affordable Care Act. Social Security provides a foundation of basic security for American workers and their families. Workers compensation is a form of no-fault insurance that covers medical care for work-related injuries, providing temporary, permanent partial, permanent total and survivor disability benefits. The national federal–state unemployment insurance program provides weekly income to individuals who become unemployed through no fault of their own. The Family and Medical Leave Act requires covered employers to provide employees job-protected and unpaid leave for qualified medical and family reasons. The Affordable Care Act extends health care to the many Americans not covered by an employer or other private plan. Voluntary benefits primarily focus on health, wellness; life management; and retirement. Benefits administration involves creating, managing and updating an employee benefits program and ensuring the maximum engagement among employees. Development of cost management and flexible benefits strategies are particularly important for today’s total reward professionals. Offering benefits to your employees is important because it shows them you are invested in not only their overall health, but their future. A solid employee benefits package can help to attract and retain talent. Healthier employees mean reduced healthcare costs for your organization.

Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA) of 1968 restricts the amount of garnishments and protects job From a human resources perspective, Title III of the Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA) of 1968 limits the amount of wages which can be garnished in a week and protects an employee whose wages have been garnished from being fired. However, if an employee has had two or more separate wage garnishments, an employer can let go of the employee. The limit of the law for wage garnishment is the lesser of 25% of disposable earnings or the amount which disposable earnings are above 30 times the federal minimum hourly wage which is $7.25 per hour (or $217.50 per week).
