Employee rights are the powers and privileges derived from the law and tradition within the context of the employment relationship. Employees have some basic rights as citizens, but those rights are further influenced by human resource policies and rules an employer establishes. However, there are now a multitude of laws and employee rights that affect employer–employee relationships. Rights are offset by responsibilities, which are obligations to perform certain tasks and duties. Employment is a reciprocal relationship in that both the employer and the employee have rights and obligations. Employers have an obligation to recognize and respect the rights of employees through appropriate management practices: Employee rights are the powers and privileges within the employment relationship. Rights management is the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling of employee rights. The employment relationship is a reciprocal one in which both employers and employees have statutory and contractual rights, as well as responsibilities. The employer has a unique obligation to manage employee rights in balance with organizational needs.

We can all probably agree that employee conflict in the workplace takes a high toll all around. One research study claims that 42% of a manager's time goes to mediating employee conflict. Without a solid guide for employee conflict resolution correctly, this could have disastrous results. But before we can navigate how to properly resolve conflict we have to understand why they arise in the first place. So, what creates conflict in the workplace? • Opposing Positions • Power Struggles • Ego • Pride • Jealousy • Performance Discrepancies • Compensation Issues or • Just someone having a bad day But the reality is that the root of most employee conflict is either born out of poor communication or the inability to control one's emotions. Countless times otherwise smart capable people place the need for emotional superiority ahead of achieving the collective company mission. Mediating employee conflict effectively can be done! But don't worry, in this video we will share some guidelines to keep in mind when you resolve conflict. Employee Conflict Resolution can be tricky so follow these steps. First - Talk to each employee conflict participant privately to piece together a story. When talking to each person involved, keep an objective but concerned tone. Do not agree or disagree, just listen. This is key to mediating employee conflict Second - Research each version of events and then write down the employee conflict or disagreement in a few sentences, what caused it and a possible solution for the problem. This is the second step in conflict resolution which will lead to mediating employee conflict successfully Third -Meet with the main employees involved in the conflict together in a private room. Keep a cordial and optimistic tone from the very beginning of the meeting and request the same from each person. Fourth - Objectively recite the conflict back to participants, telling both sides how you understand it. Verify with each person that what you've said is accurate. Allow each person to add or correct any details and propose solutions. Fifth - Reach a final solution based on participants' proposed solutions and ones you've come up with as the objective party. Employee Conflict Resolution is key to keeping up morale Lastly - Log the conflict--both sides of the story--and resolution into a document. Print out a copy for each party to the employee conflict and have them sign a master copy to verify the information is correct. File the document with human resources for future reference if the conflict ever arises again. This can ensure that mediating employee conflict does not need to repeat itself. Remember the worst thing you can do is avoid the conflict, hoping it will go away. This, too, shall pass, is not an option - EVER. Learning effective conflict resolution is your best option. Sexual harassment is a form of unlawful sex discrimination that can occur in a variety of circumstances. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment; unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance; or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment is illegal. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (Title VII) prohibits harassment of an employee based on race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. Harassment violates federal law if it involves discriminatory treatment. Employers should develop strategies for preventing and correcting sexual harassment in the workplace. Whatever form it takes, prevention is the best tool to eliminate sexual harassment, and it must be a priority for the employer to step in to stop it when it happens. Taking steps to eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace promotes a healthy and productive work environment, and helps defend an employer against liability of unlawful harassment. Prevention is the best tool to eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. Swift corrective action restores a positive work environment when harassment occurs.

Workplace conflict occurs when the concerns of two or more people appear to be incompatible. Conflict is completely natural. It’s the result of miscommunication, unclear expectations, differing perspectives or interests, or limited resources. And, conflict itself is neutral. In our discussion of workplace conflict, we will consider conflict modes and conflict management strategies. People typically handle conflict in specific ways, known as conflict modes. No mode or style is better or worse than another, they’re just different. Because no two individuals have exactly the same expectations and desires, conflict is a natural part of our interactions with others. The Thomas Kilmann Instrument (TKI) is an assessment that identifies five common styles or strategies for dealing with conflict, called conflict modes. The TKI was designed to illustrate the options we have when handling conflict. The TKI defines five approaches to resolving conflict, we’ll get to those in a minute. Managed well, conflict is necessary and productive. In teams that engage in productive conflict, the most important and difficult issues are discussed and resolved. Conflict is inevitable at work. By understanding how you and others prefer to and can best approach conflict, we will all be able to manage our work together more effectively.

Employers A Workforce Training Manager outlines the importance of developing human capital for businesses to remain competitive. Similarly, it is suggested that training allows individuals to enhance their careers individually, while allowing business to grow and take on new technology. Human Resources is the broad area under which Human Resource Development (HRD) is often considered, along with the various stakeholders. Other areas of interest are Workplace Training, Workplace Learning HR Advice and so on. Recognition of informal learning has changed the way people consider Human Resources Development and the more formal workplace education structures, such as degrees, diplomas and apprenticeships.

HR is a high-pressure job. Sometimes they have to enforce rules and policies that might not be popular, but are necessary. We spent an hour together and I absolutely loved them. We discussed how poorly they are marketed, how they have their own theme song (and it's not exactly 'Happy' by Pharrell) and the problems that Sesame Street's Human Resources Department would have with Oscar the Grouch. There are plenty of HR issues and workplace challenges out there. It used to be that when we'd think of bullying, we'd think of the schoolyard. We might think of a pop culture teen flick, where the bully through the nerd up against a locker and forced him to hand over his lunch money. Well, that's all changed. The media is full of stories of kids and teenagers who are bullied, but adults in the workplace, too. 35% of the workforce feels bullied at some point in their working life, according to several different studies. And the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health found that 25% of workplaces have bullying. My name is Catherine Mattice, and I have been researching, publishing, and consulting on the topic since 2004. I am co-author of the book Back Off, Your Guide to Ending Bullying at Work. And author of the book Seeking Civility. This course will provide you with a variety of tools and ideas to help you put a stop to workplace bullying in your own organization. I will define workplace bullying for you, compare and contrast it to harassment, and provide examples of bullying behavior. I'll show you how to do a prevalence audit to gauge bullying, how to take in grievances, and how to step in and coach bullies. I'll also show you how to implement a healthy workplace policy and how to change your organization's culture, so that bullying can no longer thrive. Finally, I'll give you some tips on training programs you can provide to put a stop to bullying, and how to lead your employees through this change in your organization. Workplace bullying is hurtful and damaging for the people who experience it. I'm so excited for you to take this step to put a stop to it. Not only can you end workplace bullying, you can create an organization that really lets your employees thrive.
