10 WAYS THE INTERNET HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES FOREVER

04:45
How has the Internet impacted our lives? Gadgets and technology play a part in our lives, but it literally is just a part. Don’t ever succumb to panic — real life is definitely still out there despite the huge affect that the Internet has to modern life. Nevertheless, it’s funny to think about the hundreds of little ways it has changed our behavior. Here are ten of the ones we’ve noticed. How many do you recognize? TIMESTAMPS: Kids and gadgets 0:32 The age of the selfie 0:55 Social media benefits 1:35 Why you should take your phone to the bathroom 1:56 Google or mother? 2:23 The Internet and flirting 2:42 The power of likes 3:10 Everything’s for TV shows fans 3:30 Are modern pirates dangerous? 3:47 What are you thinking about at 3 a.m.? 4:06 #internetage #informationage #modernlife SUMMARY: - These days, it’s almost impossible to make kids play outside the house. Well, sometimes they do go outside, but only if you allow them to take their gadgets with them. - Before the Internet-era, we used to take a real camera with us on our trips. Moving on to these days: ‘Did you pack the selfie stick? – Sure! And I’m using it right right now! Smile!’ - Years ago, you had to call a newspaper to place your ad to sell a car. Welcome to today: you just click-click-click on Facebook – and done! Here you go: ‘Hey guys, I’m selling my car, please share, repost!’ - A few clicks on your phone – and a toilet paper is delivered to you by one of your family members. Just don’t forget to take your phone to the bathroom. - These days, you hardly meet people in person anymore – instead, you get personal messages. Something like ‘Hey, sweetie, what’s the difference between you and a shining star?’. - Nowadays, you can download three seasons of your favorite show altogether and binge on them during the weekend. - These days, pirates look more like this. Their treasure is free media all over the Internet – and they don’t even have to leave their houses to get it. - Nowadays, it’s 3 a.m., you are supposed to be up at 6 a.m., but you suddenly need to know what celery dreams about. Technology articles. 2017 Latest updates

10:56
This video walks through searching Education Source and ERIC for articles on a specific topic- integrating technology in the classroom. Robots - 2016 News and Articles - Robotic Technology(Full Documentary) As humans, all of our greatest dreams and biggest fears about technology seem to be provoked by the stirring topic of robotic technologies. Robots have the potential to eliminate a great amount of monotonous work, provide assistance to human workers and serve in highly specialized environments, like hospitals or factories. At the same time, people can be concerned with how this technology will change daily life and worry about increasing isolation among humans or the loss of a job as a result. Even major names in technology development have showed signs of being spooked by robotics. In a talk given at a technology symposium held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk called robots the “biggest existential threat” to the human race, even arguing for national and international regulatory oversight on artificial (AI) development. Musk is even an investor in robotics, having put money into the AI development firm Vicarious, making his unease over the negative potential of robotics all the more telling. This holiday season, robots will likely have a much higher profile than they typically enjoy. Retail stores will prove to be a major testing ground for the consumer use of robotic technologies, as Lowe’s recently unveiled a lineup of robotic sales assistants, known as OSHbots, for certain stores. The robot can communicate in multiple languages and can direct customers to the exact location of an item they’re seeking in the store. Collision avoidance and autonomous navigation technologies are incorporated into these sales assistants, helping them travel across large stores safely. Robots have been here for a while but will likely be taking a much greater role in our daily lives. As we found in researching this technology, there are those who still believe that the utopian robotic future of The Jetsons is still very much within our grasp. In today’s article, we’ll look at some of the current activities in robotic development, break down some of the issues facing robotics technologies in our world and view some of the most recently issued patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect inventions in this field. How is blended learning disrupting classrooms?

04:15
Blended learning is an innovative approach to learning, altering the way education is delivered, and disrupting the way classrooms operate. However, the capabilities brought about by the internet and gamification have taken disruption by the technology of the traditional classroom to a whole new level. Let this video take you through the great opportunities presented by blended learning. How Media & Technology Affects Children | Child Development

03:21
Watch more Child Development Stages videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/513326-How-Media-and-Technology-Affects-Children-Child-Development Well, everybody knows that right now this is the age of technology and of media. Everyone has an Ipad; you know, gone are the days of the Gameboy. Now it's the Ipad, now it's the Iphone... now it's, you know, there's Youtube on there and everything else. Now it's just the days of going into a restaurant and you have to whip out the Ipad for the child. What kind of impact does that have on the child's development? Well, it has a lot of impact on them and not for the good! Sometimes it can help them with learning numbers and letters and there are some great games and that in about ten to twenty minutes a day max. When you're starting to use these things in place of other ways of learning, then it poses a problem. We're all in an age where communicating and engaging with people face to face is limited because everyone's already texting and emailing. So, we have to be very cognizant and very mindful that, you know, when we grew up as parents we were talking to each other and playing with each other. You want to be able to provide those opportunities for your children. So, if they're playing a game and watching TV, chances are they're not playing with a child and they're not learning common social skills. Everything that your child learns is through experience, through doing things with their peers. And also, they learn through observations. So, if they're watching you on your phone all day they may think 'well, that's the way to do it these days'. So, you also want to remember that what you do impacts your child's development as well. There are two things to know here; one is if your child is playing on the video games, watching TV, and are not outside on the playgrounds and are not engaging with their friends, then they are not playing and they should be. Two is that the impact that these toys have on your child can be significant because it's a lot of input. It's a lot of visual stimulation and you might find that they are not able to actually attend to people then because they are so used to looking at a screen rather than a person. Providing opportunities for your child to use an Ipad may not be detrimental; you can have them play a game for ten to twenty minutes a day, whatever time a day that is, and that's fine. But, once you begin to introduce that at meal time when out at restaurants consider this: your child will then always associate the Ipad with the restaurant. They'll never be able to have a meal and talk to you about their day because they'll just automatically assume that they're sitting at a restaurant having that Ipad. So, remember to keep the Ipad for times of learning and to encourage your child to connect with you, engage with you, and the same with their peers at meal time and at play time. Remember that these opportunities are so vital for your child to learn and grow because they learn through experience. Also through playing with their peers, and not exclusively through media and technology.

Vocabulary: How to talk about ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES

06:35
http://www.engvid.com/ In English, we often need to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of something. You will definitely need to do this at work, on tests such as the IELTS and TOEFL, and also in everyday conversation. In this lesson, you will learn words that have the same meaning as "advantage" and "disadvantage", such as "drawback", "downside", "positive aspect", "benefit", and many more. After watching, take our quiz to make sure you understood. There are many advantages to watching this video! Come and improve your vocabulary by learning these synonyms in a very short time. http://www.engvid.com/vocabulary-advantages-disadvantages/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, there. My name is Emma, and in today's video, I am going to teach you some new words. I'm going to teach you some words that mean "good" or "advantage" and some words that mean "bad" or "disadvantage". Now, these words are very, very important if you are planning on writing the TOEFL test, the IELTS test, if you plan to go to university or college, or just for general conversation. Okay? So it's very important you learn multiple ways to talk about advantages and disadvantages. Okay. So let's get started. First of all, I would like to teach you some synonyms of the word "advantage". Okay? And maybe, we can work on your pronunciation. You can repeat after me as I say each word. So my first word here is "advantage", which most of you probably know. It means -- similar to "good". "An advantage of living in Toronto is you get to meet people from all over the word." Okay? So it's a good thing. Similarly, a "benefit" is another good thing. It has the same meaning as the word "advantage". "A benefit of living in Toronto is you get to eat food from all over the word." Another word we could say is "is positive aspect". "A positive aspect of living in Toronto is you get to visit the CN tower, which is a very interesting building." "A good point about living in Toronto is we have a great transportation system." For those of you who live in Toronto, you might think of that as a joke. Okay. "An argument in favor of living in Toronto is the people here are very polite and friendly." Okay? So these are all considered good things about living in Toronto. We can use all of these words to describe the things we love about Toronto. Okay? So I want you to take a moment to think about your city or your village or your town. What could you say that's about it about where you live? Can you think of an advantage, a benefit, a positive aspect, a good point, an argument in favor of where you live? Okay? So now, let's look at some of the bad things, the disadvantages. Okay? So the first word we'll use is "disadvantage". Let's think about living in a city in general. "A disadvantage of living in a city is -- maybe it's very busy." Maybe it's very noisy. Okay? So these are problems with living in a city. "A drawback of living in a city" -- again, you could say it's crowded. There's too much pollution. These are drawbacks. Some people have an objection to living in a city. Maybe there's not enough green space; there's not enough environment living in a city. "A negative effect of living in a city is -- maybe you feel stressed out." Maybe you have a lot of stress because of all the noise. "A downside of living in a city is -- maybe, you know, you're not getting fresh air because of the pollution." "A frequent criticism of living in a city is, again -- maybe it takes a very long time to get anywhere if you live in a very big city." Maybe there's a bad transportation system. So this might be a frequent criticism. Now, for this word specifically, I really want to work on the pronunciation because of this "ism". I know a lot of students from Brazil, a lot of students from South America, Central America, and Europe pronounce this a little bit differently than we do in English. So we would say "criticism". Okay. Can you say that? "Criticism". Okay? So this actually almost becomes like "izum". Okay? So that would be a frequent criticism. Finally, we can also talk about "an argument against". "An argument against living in the city is -- maybe you can't have farm animals." Maybe you love chickens and hens and pigs, but in the city, you can't have them. Okay? So these are all disadvantages of living in a city or disadvantage words. Whereas these are all advantage words. Okay. So let's do a couple of practices with you. I want you to fill in this blank spot with one of these words. Okay? So let's start with positive. So I want you to say this out loud. So pick one of these. "Blank -- of living in a city is it's exciting." "A good point of living in a city is it's exciting." "A benefit of living in a city is it's exciting." Okay?

SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=MakingCHAMPSIndia In this short speech, Mayank explains both sides of the internet - the advantage and disadvantage. He says that internet has become a basic need as important like food. Smart phones have popularised the internet as everything is available one click away. Be it shopping online or elearning or banking. In the disadvantages, he mentions about hacking, cyber crimes, cyber bullying etc. He also touches upon the big distraction caused by internet and smart phones where people waste time in chatting and forgetting their important things. He concludes that internet will be a boon for those who use it constructively and a curse for others who use it for negative purpose. #internet #speech #advantages #disadvantages #children #kids #shortspeech #best

Top 10 Reasons to Use Technology in Education: iPad, Tablet, Computer, Listening Centers

The following reasons should silence the nay-sayer and help them heed the wisdom from Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, "Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do.". Teachers are finding that using different classroom technologies like tablet computers, digital video, iPods, and video games are great tools for helping students learn. Kindle ereader nook 1. Students love it. Students love using new technologies in the classroom. Whether it be the "cool" factor or just a genuine interest in new technology, it allows teachers to vary activities of the day and engage students. There is no commandment for education that says, "THOU SHALT NOT HAVE FUN" Students spend hours using technology like computers and television when they get home from school--why not engage them through their favorite mediums? 2. It engages the Four Key Components to Learning. Click on the link to read how technology in education (specifically the iPod School Listening Center) engages the 4 key components to learning. 3. Professional Development. Using new technologies allow students to learn another skill set that will help them in the marketplace. How many jobs need basic computing skills let alone advanced computing skills? Any time a teacher can encourage students to learn through technology, they kill two birds with one stone. The tech industry is only getting bigger--encourage your students to know and understand technology so they can be the tech leaders of the future! With the power of the internet, knowing how to use a simple piece of technology can turn an aspiring singer into Justin Bieber (whose mom uploaded videos of him singing which led to his fame) and a hilarious prankster into YouTube Star EdBassmaster, who recently used an AmpliVox Sound Cruiser PA System in a video (that is approaching 1,000,000 views!). EdBassMaster "Look at This" Video with Sound Cruiser 4. Makes Life Easier for Teachers. Teachers have to juggle a variety of tasks outside of teaching including planning lessons, grading, meeting with parents, and some administrative work. Why not help yourself out and put objective tests online so that students can instantly see their grades instead of spending valuable time grading? 5. It Improves Test Scores. A benefit of engaging students through technology and media is allowing them to work at their own pace and not be held back by students who learn at a slower rate. This can allow gifted students to progress several grades ahead of their peers over the course of a year. Another proof of improved test scores comes from reaching different learning styles through the use of technology. The use of electronic drilling in education can help students learn quickly and provide incentives like games for them to keep progressing. Nobody does this better than Khan Academy. 6. Helps Students with Low Attention Spans. Students with ADD or ADHD can be aided through the use of technology by mixing up the learning process with different methods and through providing them engaging activities to keep their interest. Technology is a favorite among teachers who teach in ESL classrooms or special education settings. Even the best teachers can have their moments or topics when they are like Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Charlie Brown's Teacher in the eyes of their students. Using technology keeps students awake and their attention level high. How hard is it for you to fall asleep while on the internet compared to hearing a lecture? 7. Learn from the Experts. With the an increasing amount of free resources available on the internet, you can engage your students with content from the smartest and best teachers in the world AmpliVox Sound Systems manufactures and sells portable sound systems along with lecterns and podiums with built-in sound systems that are perfect for classrooms. The Pinnacle Multimedia Lectern and iPod Portable PA System are great products for school settings that have a variety of uses both indoor and outdoors. M7A1: Using social media in the classroom.

04:56
Teen social media use Teens use social media on average 9 hours a day (Wallace, 2015)! They are in school for 7.5 hours a day, how much is school time spent on social media? Should teachers try and incorporate social media into classroom curriculum? There are many pros and cons to social media. A few pros are teens are now more current on current events, boost self-esteem, help conduct research, and staying up to date on current technology. Some cons are cyber bullying, productivity decreased, decreased social skills, and can cause students to disclose too much personal information (The Pros and Cons of Teens on Social Media, (n.d.). There are many ways we can incorporate social media in the classroom. We can create groups on Facebook that students can interact and ask questions. Teachers can share articles they wish their students to read. Students can have access to class resources and classmates more easily (25 Ways Teachers Can Integrate Social Media Into Education, 2012). If a teacher feels that this is best for their classroom, and they get permission from parents, they can implement social media into their classroom. Teachers would for sure need to set guidelines and expectations for their students. References: 25 Ways Teachers Can Integrate Social Media Into Education. (2012). Social Learning With Social Networking Tools Designed Just For Education

05:56
This video blog entry is a companion to the blog post of the same name on EmergingEdTech.com [URL: http://www.emergingedtech.com/2011/04/social-learning-with-social-networking-tools-designed-just-for-education/]. Last week's post, "Facebook in the Classroom. Seriously", was the first in a series focused on the use of social networking tools in the classroom. I am writing this series of articles as I prepare for a presentation on the subject at this year's Campus Technology 2011 conference. While I will be focusing mostly on popular tools like Facebook and Twitter, I also want to be able to recommend a number of worthwhile education-specific applications. Using applications that are intended solely for education eliminates concerns about exposing students to the inappropriate types of content found on popular mass market social networking tools. Imagine if school was like setting sail to your ship or learning. Delving deep into the ocean of learning, you uncover mysteries and ponder questions that you would never have otherwise. Teachers are like your lighthouse; they guide you in crucial situations. Teacher centered education and student centered education both has its own pros and cons. However, ultimately we are looking for the student's benefit, although of course the instructors' comforts do matter. In the journey that students take in their years of school, teachers should not be feared or disregarded, but revered, and looked up to for guidance. Student centered education allows students to pursue their interests with a teacher by their side. Students and teachers can collaborate to find the best ways for education for individual students. I hope this video helped in explaining a bit clearer, and to show you my thoughts for the current education system. ---------- Bibliography: 31 Dec. 2012.
