How to improve your English by reading
How can reading improve your English? What reading strategies can you use to improve your vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and enunciation? In this instructional and motivational video, I tell you how picking up a book can not only help you to improve your vocabulary but your speaking confidence and presentation skills as well. Watch the lesson, and let me know some of your favourite books in the comments section! https://www.engvid.com/how-to-improve-your-english-by-reading/ TRANSCRIPT Hey, everyone. I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on "How to Improve Your English By Reading". So, it might be very obvious how reading can help you improve, you know, your speaking in English, particularly your vocabulary, but there are a number of reasons and a number of things that reading regularly and reading in specific ways can actually help you to improve your English, and also not only like your reading English, but your ability to speak properly or to speak confidently. And again, this applies not only to English as a second language learners, but also to English speakers, period. So pick up a book, and here's how picking up a book can help you to improve your English. So, number one: You can improve your English by picking up any book, reading out loud, and exaggerating what you're reading. You might think: "This sounds ridiculous", but if you are a second language learner, this is a fantastic way to improve your enunciation, your pronunciation, and presentation skills. Even if you're not a second language learner... English as a second language learner. So, for example, it doesn't matter what type of genre you like, what type of books you like. Me, personally, I love science-fiction, I love fantasy. And I can turn to, you know, pages in any of these books and read out loud, exaggerate what I'm saying, and just the act of doing this, of speaking out loud what I'm reading makes me feel, again, more confident speaking in front of an audience, for example. So I'll just open to a random page here and... Okay, so in this book, just so you know, there's a horse, his name is Artaq. And it says: "Artaq did not hesitate. He veered toward the Silver River. The wolves came after, soundless, fluid, black terror. Will was sure that this time they would not escape. Allanon was no longer there to help them. They were all alone." Now, what you notice is I'm... I'm trying to exaggerate: "They were all alone." Even like my l's. And focus on every letter when you're reading, because this type of reading, reading out loud, exaggerating, if you are a professional, this is a great way to build that clarity in your speech when you're speaking in front of people, and pacing yourself, how fast you speak as well is important, obviously, when you're giving a presentation. This second part... Again, this one can apply to both native speakers of English, but it's more specifically geared towards English as a second language speakers, and that is: Paying attention to word endings. And especially "ed" and "s" endings. So, specifically past tense words, like "wanted", okay? Or plural words, like "hawks" instead of one hawk, because a lot of, again, English as a second language learners sometimes forget the "ed" ending when they're reading. I've taught classes where, you know, students have to read out loud, and they're so focused on reading and getting the words correct, but the pronunciation, they just drop the ends of words sometimes, especially "ed", especially "s". So let me see if I can quickly find an example. Okay, here's one: "When he stayed on his feet..." When he... Oh, why am I pointing? You can't see that. You can't see that. So: "When he stayed on his feet" this is one part of the sentence. Again, you have the verb "stayed", so some new learners of English will sometimes read that as: "When he stay", "When he stay", and they just drop the end. So please, please, please focus on those "ed" and "s" endings, and this will really help your fluency, the ability of others to understand you, as well as your enunciation. "Stayed", okay? Number three: Pay attention to punctuation. Now, punctuation refers to the use of commas, periods, question marks, exclamation marks when you're reading. By paying attention to these things, you can actually focus on improving your intonation and your fluency; two specific things. So, the intonation refers to the up and down movement of your voice when you are saying something or reading something. So, for example, you know, raise... In the second part I said: "Raise intonation for yes or no questions." So if you notice when you're reading that, you know, this person is asking a yes or no question, then your voice should be moving up at the end. And, you know in speaking, this also improves that. So, for example, in this book there is... Okay, here's a yes or no question, the question is: "Did you find her?"

Muslim Yoga & its Controversies
Most viewers will be surprised to learn about the rapidly expanding movement among Muslims to appropriate Yoga. Teachers and Islamic experts are collaborating to modify Yoga by removing aspects seen as Hinduism, and by adding links with Islam. In this episode I analyze video clips from Muslim Yoga teachers in Pakistan, India, Canada and USA. I survey and comment on many kinds of Muslim postures toward Yoga, such as: 1. Outright rejection of Yoga, seen as shrik, meaning it is banned by Allah. 2. Attitudes of blatant Hinduphobia, even in some Western schools of Islam. 3. Demand to remove surya-namaskar because it is seen as idol worship which is banned in Islam. 4. Demand to remove Om because only Allah's name can be chanted. 5. Demand to remove all mantras because they relate to "false gods" and infidel practices. 6. Replacing silence with chanting Allah's name. 7. Chanting verses from Qur'an during the practice. 8. Claiming that Yoga was not originally Hindu, but that Hindus hijacked it into their religion. 9. Trying to unite all Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) against features in Yoga that are "not friendly to Monotheism", and blaming these features on BJP. 10. Digesting Yoga systematically into Arabic vocabulary and claiming that it maps on to Islamic practices. My analysis in the final few minutes of the episode presents my advice to Muslims as well as to Hindu teachers. Buddha's Picnic by Gonkar Gyatso
Buddha's Picnic by Gonkar Gyatso Join contemporary artist Gonkar Gyatso and art historian Melissa R. Kerin in a discussion about Buddha’s Picnic, an installation by Gyatso now on view at Washington and Lee University’s Staniar Gallery in Lexington, Virginia. Buddha’s Picnic is a modern shrine filled with mass-produced Buddhist devotional objects including electric prayer wheels spouting mantras in Tibetan, neon-colored Buddha statues, and flashing lotus lights. The installation provides a compelling contrast to the Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room in the Sackler exhibition Encountering the Buddha: Art and Practice across Asia. Gonkar Gyatso is a Tibetan-born British artist (born 1961) currently living and working in Chengdu, China. He studied Chinese brush painting in Beijing and in 1984 attained a BA in traditional Tibetan scroll painting (thangka). In 2000 he earned an MA in fine art from the Chelsea College of Arts in London. Gyatso is the founder of the Sweet Tea House, a contemporary art gallery in London dedicated to showing Tibetan work. Gyatso's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Rubin Museum of Art; Chinese National Art Gallery; Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art; Courtauld Institute of Art; and Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art. Melissa R. Kerin is an art historian who works on the art and material culture of South Asia from the medieval and contemporary periods. Along with a number of articles, Kerin has authored two books, Artful Beneficence: Selections from the David Nalin Collection (Rubin Publications, 2009) and Art and Devotion at a Buddhist Temple in the Indian Himalaya (Indiana University Press, 2015), which was awarded the Edward C. Dimock, Jr. Prize in the Indian Humanities. She is currently finishing a manuscript titled Bodies of Offerings: The Materiality and Vitality of Tibetan Buddhist Shrines. Kerin holds a PhD in art history from the University of Pennsylvania and an MTS from Harvard Divinity School. Arthur M. Sackler Gallery Saturday, February 17, 2018 2PM

New Life: singing opera
http://SmilingBackMethod.com Last of four case studies from Philip's Alexander Technique practice in Liverpool. Caroline found Alexander lessons really helped her singing as well as her back. Here's what she say. Opera Singer "I first came across Alexander Technique when I was exploring ways to improve my singing. I wanted to sing from my soul, and Philip Pawley's web-site identified loads of thoughts that I was having about getting out of my own way. "A thirty-minute lesson with Philip Pawley may not sound much, but you do an awful lot in that session: you are guided very gently but very firmly to move in a way that's so much freer than you ever imagined. "I've also found that my balance is much better, my weight is equally distributed between both feet, which means that I have lost all my lower back pain, which enables me to stand straighter and to sing with much more freedom. "I have got enormous benefit out of a series of thirty-minute sessions with Philip Pawley. My whole stance has improved and I'm singing better." At http://www.SmilingBackMethod.com/articles you'll find a large free library of articles to help your back, posture and movement become easy, graceful and pain-free.

Say NO to double standards in medicine (Video 7)
- Join our community here: https://peterdobias.com/pages/join-our-community - Check Dr. Dobias Natural Healing line https://peterdobias.com/collections/dr-dobias-original-products --------------------------- Today, I would like to talk to you about double standards in medicine. Not many people would argue that health is our most prized possession. However, while we lock our cars and homes and put our travel passports into safety boxes, we let others decide how to handle our and our dog’s health. We blindly entrust complete strangers to create laws and regulations that should protect our health but instead protect the interests of the conventional medical establishment. Over the last 100 or so years, our healthcare has been dominated by certain medical philosophies and treatments that involve patented drugs. Before I had renounced my veterinary licence in British Columbia I had a meeting with the Veterinary College registrar. In our conversation, I was told on how to write my veterinary articles and recommendations for you and instructed the following: I was to always offer conventional methods first and suggest natural alternatives as a second choice if the conventional methods didn’t work. I was told that my alternative recommendations had to be followed by a disclaimer that stated that these methods were not scientifically proven. (This is not always true). My objection to this was that many commonly used conventional methods were not scientifically proven and that this disclaimer requirement was a double standard. The response that I received from this was, “Yes, it is a double standard.” As you can imagine, I was surprised to hear such a reply. The registrar bluntly stated that there was a double standard in medicine! For years, I have been quiet about what has been happening in veterinary medicine out of fear of being targeted. Now that I have surrendered my license, I am freer to speak and will continue to inform you of what is going on. This situation has led to fewer holistic practitioners in practice because many veterinarians are scared to speak up against the college. The current bylaws and regulations have a detrimental effect on veterinarians’ ability to freely use safe, non-conventional drug-free methods that work. When there is a complaint or a disciplinary case against a vet, the standard is conventional medicine, and those who don’t use conventional methods are putting themselves and their license at risk. Many of these vets have huge student and clinic loans, and losing their license would lead to serious consequences. Also, under the college regulations, veterinarians are not allowed to invent a product, connect their name with a product, or share reviews and feedback on a product's website. This effectively disqualifies any clinically experienced veterinarians from innovating and moving medicine forward. As you may be aware, I have received an ultimatum to either take my name off my products and stop sharing customer reviews on my website or give up my licence. When I questioned the College as to why I was not allowed to share reviews from customers about our products, they essentially told me that they couldn’t be sure that the testimonials were true. The irony of this statement is that the walls of most veterinary clinics are covered with posters and advertisements touting the benefits of many pharmaceutical and pet food products. These ads were created by the companies that sell them, yet I was not allowed to publish uncensored reviews and feedback written by our customers. Would this be another double standard? The most important issue here is that the democracy of medicine is threatened, and so is your freedom to choose the method that is the best for your dog. I am in no way saying that conventional medicine is wrong or useless, nor am I saying that vets or companies should not be responsible for the safety of their products. I am just asking to eliminate this DOUBLE STANDARD and any intimidation aimed at myself. Regulatory bodies should be concerned about malpractice and poor practice standards instead of targeting practitioners and the products that are based on customer feedback. Our current overall rating is 4.9 out of 5 stars and our products have been offered for over six years now. We clearly pose no threat to the health of dogs. Why should I not be allowed, as an educated professional, to share my knowledge and make a difference through the products that I formulated? On a positive note, now that I have surrendered my license, I am free to speak to you about your dogs and let you know of any developments. Animal lovers and veterinarians alike should have the freedom to choose which treatment to use. You and your dog’s health are the most prized possessions, and they are worth the fight. Thank you for reading, sharing, and, most of all, caring for and loving your dog. Dr. Peter Dobias, DVM

Conservation: The Most Important Purpose in the World
Shane Mahoney delivers a message about the history of conservation and the important conservation challenges we face today. http://ConservationVisions.com Shane Mahoney is widely recognized as a wildlife biologist, conservationist, and thought leader. A former employee of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, he served as Chief of Wildlife Research for the province from 1994-2003, when he accepted the position of Executive Director of Sustainable Development and Strategic Science. In 2001, he founded and subsequently led the Institute for Biodiversity, Ecosystem Science and Sustainability, an organization that continues to fund graduate student research at universities throughout North America and Europe. Today, Shane is the founder and CEO of Conservation Visions Inc., a private company and global wildlife initiative that has recently announced the launch of the Wild Harvest Initiative, a multi-year project that will measure and analyze the biomass of wild animal protein harvested each year by citizens of the U.S. and Canada, assessing both its nutritional and economic value, as well as the ecological and financial costs of replacing this food through standard agricultural and domestic livestock production. Shane also serves as:  Vice-Chair of the United Nations’ International Council for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group (SULi) and Chair of SULi North America  North American Expert to the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC)  International Liaison for The Wildlife Society  Board Member of Conservation Force International  Featured Partner with Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever  Director of the High Lonesome Institute  Conservation Director at Large for Dallas Safari Club  Member of the Sustainable Use Committee for the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) Shane continues to be a tireless worker on behalf of wildlife and biodiversity, a vocal proponent of sustainable use as a conservation practice, and a strong believer in the benefits of communicating both conservation science and hunting to the general public. He has written more than 100 popular articles that have been featured in twenty-four print magazines, as well as digitally, and his work appears regularly in such well-read publications as Sports Afield. He has appeared as host or narrator for a variety of radio and television efforts, and has collaborated with such highly regarded entities as the British Broadcasting Corporation and National Geographic to produce award-winning films. His scientific research has appeared in more than 20 peer-reviewed, academic publications, and he has offered keynote speeches, led numerous workshops, participated in endowed lectures, and presented at a host of conferences around the globe. In the fall of 2015, Shane completed work as Special Guest-Editor on his second Monograph for the International Journal of Environmental Studies (IJES); his first Monograph, Conservation and Hunting in North America, was published in 2013. Together, these Monographs represent a unique effort to portray the rich history of hunting in North America by delivering peer-reviewed, scientifically based, and historically supported evidence of hunting’s proven success as a conservation tool, thus representing a positive step forward for both the conservation and hunting communities. Also in 2015, Shane became quite engaged in the discussions sparked by the Cecil the Lion incident and, in response, produced and released a film vignette reviewing the issue and providing commentary about the realities of ecosystem and wildlife management, as well as the relationship between hunting and conservation. This short film, the first in a series that will be expanded upon in 2016, was designed to engender further meaningful dialogue amongst the hunting community and the general public. Shane is currently in the process of co-editing a multi-author volume that will become the first textbook to examine the North American Wildlife Conservation Model, another notable achievement that will be realized in 2016.

Subscribe on Youtube: http://t21c.com/12YTr3X Subscribe by e-mail: http://www.the21convention.com Follow on Twitter: http://twitter.com/beachmuscles I spent the better part of my early adult life dating 1 girl, which gave me plenty of time to spend my lonely nights nerding it up. When that relationship ended, I found myself with a B.S. in Biology, a Master's degree in Creative Writing, and a remedial (retarded?) understanding of attraction and dating. So I moved to New York City, ignored my pride and better judgement, and started hitting on women shamelessly. Naturally, I got lots of rejections, amassed a canon of funny stories, and wound up at websites for the dating advice industry. Eventually it also led me to my wingman and partner-in-crime, Mr. Zack Bauer. Together, Zack and I started to piece together the truth about picking up women. It may have involved some embarrassing nights and not-so-happy ladies (sorry ladies), but after approaching enough women, we actually started to figure things out and find success. I began writing my insights in magazines, blogs, and various dating niche outlets, such as TSB Magazine. The fast-paced and sophisticated life of New York City influences my style in both writing and dating. These days I split my time between nerd activities like writing, reading, and jogging and awesome activities like aggressive dating, aggressive teaching, and aggressive aggressiveness. On a rainy day, you can find me sipping coffee while writing dating articles or bizarre fiction at a Starbucks near you. My interests include playing the guitar, graphic art, French, candlelit dinners, and anyone who can fix my flatscreen t.v. I believe every man deserves to date his dream girl IF he's willing to forget his pride to learn how to do it. I've coached close to a hundred men on live programs where I watched them transform (sometimes overnight) into the awesome men they were all along--they just needed someone to get them in touch with their inner cool guy. I love waking up each morning to emails from men around the world who tell me about their success stories or about meeting their dream girl or finding the motivation to express themselves. I want you to find an amazing woman and live an awesome life. Visit Rob at http://www.robjudge.net/ Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/BxJw/

You can contact Craig "C-Dubb" Washington at the following email address [email protected] Sex before marriage, religion, sex and the bible, Sex Before Marriage As young adults, we are constantly reminded to observe abstinence. Most elders condemn the practice of having sex before marriage. For them, virginity is a sacred gift that one should give their future spouse. Women are considered disgraceful to lose virginity before marriage. However, most women today have liberated themselves from the curse of the hymen. No longer is virginity an issue in marriage. We all have to understand that sex is normal like taking a bath everyday or brushing your teeth every other meal. Women who lose their virginity before marriage are condemned in the olden days. They are considered a menace to society. They are cursed thus making them feel inferior of themselves thus leading them to further committing mistakes and poverty. Due to the growing number of sexually active ladies, the curse of the hymen has been broken. Currently society has accepted this concept making them freer in expressing themselves. There is no use of depriving ourselves with it. It would only drive us crazy. It is best to talk about it to better have an understanding how it works and what we should avoid. Introducing it to teenagers can avert them from having unwanted pregnancies in the future. Studies show that children below 12 are driven to it due to curiosity, peer pressure and family concerns. Learning how to take care of ourselves would not only include physical hygiene. We should be mentally sound, emotionally satisfied and socially prepared to be considered well-rounded individuals. The aspect of sex should not be disregarded. It has many benefits especially if done with care. It is a fact that those who practice it regularly have better disposition than those who rarely do it. They look and feel younger. They are less stressful and more agile than others. They are more level-minded averting them from being irritable and unreasonable. They also have lesser risk of having prostate cancer, hypertension and even scrutinizing pain. Indeed it helps balance the hormones that make it beneficial for us. However uncontrollable sex can lead to something dangerous. True enough sex can benefit us as individuals. Those who have the habit of performing sex daily are better rounded than others. They have a better judgment, gets along well with others and tends to be more agile and flexible. Physically they look ten years younger without visiting their dermatologist. Research shows that they have lesser risk of having hypertension, prostate cancer and other forms of heart ailments. We should be more responsible when dealing with sex. It can make us feel good but it can also make us suffer. If not done with caution, we can end up adding to population without being prepared emotionally or financially. Literally there is nothing wrong with having sex before marriage if we could only be more responsible about it. It can inspire us. It can make us more versatile and desirable. But if we continuously do it for the sake of attracting attention we can end up being a menace to society. so is Sex Before Marriage Currently sexual awareness is being introduced globally not only to control the inflating population but also avert the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. It is absurd to stop society from doing something innate thus they should consider introducing the practice of safe sex instead. We all should be responsible not to take in as many as we want to out of lust. Instead we should associate it with love. Diversity jurisdiction
In the law of the United States, diversity jurisdiction is a form of subject-matter jurisdiction in civil procedure in which a United States district court in the federal judiciary has the power to hear a civil case where the persons that are parties are "diverse" in citizenship, which generally indicates that they are citizens of different states or non-U.S. citizens. (Corporations, as legal persons, may also be included.) Diversity jurisdiction and federal-question jurisdiction (jurisdiction over issues arising under federal law) constitute the two primary categories of subject matter jurisdiction in U.S. federal courts. The United States Constitution, in Article III, § 2, gives the Congress the power to permit federal courts to hear diversity cases through legislation authorizing such jurisdiction. The provision was included because the Framers of the Constitution were concerned that when a case is filed in one state, and it involves parties from that state and another state, the state court might be biased toward the party from that state. Congress first exercised that power and granted federal trial circuit courts diversity jurisdiction in the Judiciary Act of 1789. Diversity jurisdiction is currently codified at 28 U.S.C. § 1332. Joseph Kosuth at Hirshhorn: Demetrion Lecture
Joseph Kosuth is one of the most celebrated pioneers of Conceptual art, using language and appropriation to highlight the importance of the idea as the basis for a work of art. Since the 1960s, his work has consistently explored the production and role of language and meaning within art. In conjunction with our current installation of the permanent collection, "What Absence is Made Of," which features his seminal work "Titled (Art as Idea as Idea) [Idea]" (1966) as one of the highlights of the exhibition, we're thrilled to host Joseph Kosuth for the annual James T. Demetrion Lecture. This annual program is made possible by the Friends of Jim and Barbara Demetrion Endowment Fund, established in 2001 to celebrate Jim Demetrion’s seventeen-year tenure as the Hirshhorn’s second director.

Episode 138: The Statrix: How Government Warps Our Perception of the World
Trevor Burrus shares his theory of how government reorganizes the world around its own policies and programs. What is the “Statrix”? How does government warp our perception of the world around us? How does it disproportionately affect the poor? Trevor Burrus talks about the “Statrix,” a portmanteau of the state and the concept of an artificial world made popular in the 1999 action/sci-fi movie The Matrix. Show Notes and Further Reading Trevor mentions the recent spate of track problems and fires that have been plaguing Washington D.C.’s metro system, which led to the creation of this website, http://ismetroonfire.com. He also explains this song by the Kingston Trio, which was meant to a protest fare increases on Boston’s public subway system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Jw_v3F_Q0 Here’s a series of articles by Megan McArdle on Washington D.C.’s streetcar project, written in 2009, 2014, and 2015 (the project was originally slated to be completed in 2006 and is still not fully rolled out today, in 2016). http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2009/04/streetcar-desires/7358/ http://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2014-08-06/a-streetcar-named-progress https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2015-03-17/d-c-ponders-the-fate-of-its-streetcars Trevor also mentions our podcast episode with Randal O’Toole, “Transportation, Land Use, and Freedom,” James Tooley’s book “The Beautiful Tree: A Personal Journey Into How the World’s Poorest People are Educating Themselves,” and NeuCare, a new way to think about medical care. http://www.libertarianism.org/media/free-thoughts/transportation-land-use-freedom https://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Tree-Personal-Educating-Themselves/dp/1939709121 http://neucare.net/ Download the .mp3 of this episode: http://bit.ly/1syvKih Subscribe through iTunes: https://bitly.com/18wswtX Subscribe through Google Play Music: http://bit.ly/1VLM4sh Free Thoughts RSS feed: http://bit.ly/1q2vZQP

The World As I See It by Albert Einstein
Support New Wellness Living and this 'New Thought Series': Via Paypal: paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=PQRGZ58MG9EDA The World as I See It is a book by Albert Einstein published in 1949. Composed of assorted articles, addresses, letters, interviews and pronouncements published before 1935, it includes Einstein's opinions on the meaning of life, ethics, science, society, religion, and politics. These fragments form a mosaic portrait of Einstein the man. Each one is, in a sense, complete in itself; it presents his views on some aspect of progress, education, peace, war, liberty, or other problems of universal interest. Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist and philosopher of science. He developed the general theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics). He is best known in popular culture for his mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2 (which has been dubbed "the world's most famous equation"). He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". The latter was pivotal in establishing quantum theory. Near the beginning of his career, Einstein thought that Newtonian mechanics was no longer enough to reconcile the laws of classical mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field. This led to the development of his special theory of relativity. He realized, however, that the principle of relativity could also be extended to gravitational fields, and with his subsequent theory of gravitation in 1916, he published a paper on the general theory of relativity. He continued to deal with problems of statistical mechanics and quantum theory, which led to his explanations of particle theory and the motion of molecules. He also investigated the thermal properties of light which laid the foundation of the photon theory of light. In 1917, Einstein applied the general theory of relativity to model the large-scale structure of the universe. Einstein published more than 300 scientific papers along with over 150 non-scientific works. His intellectual achievements and originality have made the word "Einstein" synonymous with genius. Gambling – even a Christian can do it!
While pastors will tell you that gambling is a sin, the Bible does not! The traditions of men don’t supersede the Word of God. Forget made-up fence laws, because we’re diving in. Episode 94 08/25/2017 Gambling – even a Christian can do it! Today on #CrackYourBible , we’re talking about should Christians gamble? While the Bible does not prohibit gambling, pastors everywhere are decrying the practice as evil. But why would gambling be any more of a sin than any other form of entertainment? Unfortunately, while some Christians do struggle with addiction, that doesn’t make gambling a sin for all Christians. A person’s lack of self-control does not constitute a sin for the rest of the group. If you aren’t taking care of your obligations or are committing sins to pay for your gambling, obviously, that’s a sin – but the gambling isn’t what is sinful. Let’s take a look at these fence laws prohibiting gambling and decide whether or not Christians are allowed to gamble. 🔗 Other links mentioned: • Southern Baptist Convention’s paper against gambling: http://erlc.com/resource-library/articles/a-biblical-case-against-gambling Even if you’re not a Christian, subscribe to hear the stories that your friends haven’t heard, your parents don’t know and that your pastor doesn’t teach. 💌 *Subscribe here and click the bell:* https://tinyurl.com/RachelYoutube -Rachel N. GTAC 2011: Opening Keynote Address - Test is Dead
6th Annual Google Test Automation Conference 2011 (GTAC 2011) "Cloudy With A Chance Of Tests" Computer History Museum Mountain View, CA USA October 26-27, 2011 Opening Keynote: Test is Dead Presented by Alberto Savoia ABSTRACT The way most software is designed, developed, and launched has changed dramatically over the last decade -- but what about testing? Alberto Savoia believes that software testing as we knew it is dead -- or at least moribund -- in which case we should stick a fork in it and proactively take it out of its misery for good. In this opening keynote of biblical scope, Alberto will cast stones at the old test-mentality and will try his darnedest to agitate you and convince you that these days most testers should follow a new test-mentality, one which includes shifting their focus and priority from "Are we building it right?" to "Are we building the right it?" The subtitle of this year's GTAC is "cloudy with a chance of tests," and if anyone can gather the clouds into a hurricane, it's Alberto -- it might be wise to bring your umbrella. Alberto Savoia is Director of Engineering and Innovation Agitator at Google. In addition to leading several major product development efforts (including the launch of Google AdWords), Alberto has been a lifelong believer, champion, innovator and entrepreneur in the area of developer testing and test automation tools. He is a frequent keynote speaker and the author of many articles on testing, including the classic booklet "The Way of Testivus" and "Beautiful Tests" in O'Reilly's Beautiful Code. His work in software development tools has won him several awards including the 2005 Wall Street Journal Technical Innovator Award, InfoWorld's Technology of the Year award, and no fewer than four Software Development Magazine Jolt Awards.
