Scientists Reveal the Exercises That'll Make You Live Longer
Our body and all its complexity is a treasure that we must take special care of our whole lives. You only get one chance after all! The better you take care of your health, the happier, more comfortable, and longer a life you can lead. We mean the physical capabilities that your body possesses. So if you’re actually 21 years old, but this test reveals to you that your body is more like 38, there are no paradoxes or holes in the universe here; it just means you have some things to work on healthwise. - You can improve your flexibility at any age, so don't get “bent” out of shape (heh heh, get it?). If you work hard enough, you can change your current situation. The easiest thing you can do is bend over and try to touch the floor 30 times a day. Trust us! - By bending at least 30 times a day, you’ll strengthen your ligaments and tendons and improve your flexibility as a result. Yoga stretches are also good for improving flexibility. - You could practice mastering the downward dog pose. (Arf – no not that dog!) The initial position for this stretch is an upside down V-shape with your hands and feet on the ground. After you’ve gotten into position, try to extend your tailbone up and back. - Another great yoga pose that can give you a good stretch is the child's pose. If you're not familiar with it, here's how to do it: start in a kneeling position, and then move your bottom towards your heels and rest your torso on your thighs. - You can also try the butterfly pose to improve your flexibility. It's really simple: just sit down, bend your knees, and bring the soles of your feet together, almost like you’re going to sit criss-cross applesauce but without all the crissing and crossing. Hold onto your ankles, and use your elbows to gently push your knees toward the floor. - A tush push is also a wonderful alternative to getting your flexibility back to the way it was in your younger years. To do it, you have to stand up while keeping your feet as wide apart as possible, so hold onto the back of a chair if need be. - Not that many people know about this, but you can actually exercise your muscles not only from the outside but from the inside as well! And this static gymnastics exercise is going to be a huge help for you in that. Static gymnastics helps eliminate inner muscular spasms, and by doing just one simple exercise, you release tension and enrich your body with oxygen. Eating one meal a day is a disaster for unhealthy food corporations and pharmaceutical industries because they’ll go bankrupt if the majority of people followed this advice. While at the same time dramatically enhance your cognitive function along with physical well being. So in this video I’ll show you why everything you thought you knew about food is wrong, and why top athletes and high achievers only eat one meal a day. This kind of eating is an extended type of intermittent fasting where they consume calories for about an hour a day and fast for the remaining 23 hours, and they usually eat in the evening. That means no breakfast, no lunch and no eating before working out. But don’t you need to eat before working out to have good results? Well not really. It might make you feel better since you’re used to it but it’s definitely not required. Now granted this type of diet is not for everyone but you might want to give it a go since it has some crazy benefits and some of greatest athletes are doing it. Ronda Rousey is or was doing the OMAD diet when she was competing at her peak when she absolutely destroyed her competition in both Strikeforce and the UFC. After becoming the first female american to get an olympic medal in Judo in 2008 she went on to dominate MMA for a number of years. And she explains one of her secrets for her huge success in an interview with MMA Mania. She says: "It's kind of a combination of The Paleo and The Warrior diet. I pretty much eat one meal a day - which takes place at night... There is one exception to all of this each day: I get to have coffee every morning. She continues to say that she she can get more out her training on an empty stomach than she would on a full stomach. Another top athlete that follows the OMAD diet is Kohei Uchimura, a seven-time olympic medalist, 19-time world medalist and by many considered to be the greatest gymnast of all time. He recently also revealed that he only eats one time per day which came as huge surprise for most people. Before he gets to destroy his first and only meal of the day he has worked out not once but two times already. Another advantage having an empty stomach is that it he doesn’t get sick from all the spinning and flipping he does, and he says that he feels like he’s in a good state training on an empty stomach. The same goes for Gen. Stanley McChrystal who was special operations commander and also overseeing NATO forces in afghanistan. He thinks It’s extremely convenient to not have to cook and eat several meals a day and it keeps him in peak physical condition. Eating one meal a day can also dramatically enhances the cognitive function and mental clarity because in that fasted state, it forces the brain to get its fuel from ketone bodies in a process called gluconeogenesis, and happens when other energy sources are depleted. Ketones are actually the prefered source of energy for both the brain and body and can make your brain run up to 70 % more efficiently than on blood sugar and glucose. When blood sugar rises, insulin is released from the pancreas to move the sugar from the blood into the cells - this spike in insulin leads to a quick drop in blood sugar, leaving you feeling lethargic. Elevated Blood Sugar & Mental Clarity- Chronically high levels of blood glucose, has been linked to an elevated risk of dementia and a smaller hippocampus, a brain region critical for memory. In other words, higher levels of glucose are associated with a smaller hippocampus and worse memory. Cognitive problems often arise because amyloid plaque builds up in the brain, compromising brain function. HIIT for Mental Clarity- When you exercise, your muscle cells pump out a protein called FNDC5 - this protein, by fragmenting into a second component called irisin, ramps up production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF. It’s BDNF that stimulates the production of new neurons or nerve cells and actually helps your brain build new architecture - plus, BDNF protects nerve cells against damage, including damage related to aging. A study published in the journal PNAS found that in 120 older adults, that exercise increased the size of the anterior hippocampus, leading to improvements in spatial memory. Exercise increased hippocampal volume by 2%, effectively reversing age-related loss in volume by 1 to 2 years - increased hippocampal volume is associated with greater serum levels of BDNF. HIIT vs LISS – Study- A study published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise looked at the effects of HIIT vs LISS on BDNF levels in 15 volunteers. On separate days, two subsequent 30-min endurance rides were performed at 20% below the VTh (VTh - 20) and at 10% above the VTh (VTh + 10) (ventilatory threshold) BDNF values increased from baseline after exercise at the VTh + 10 (13%) and the GXT (30%) There was no significant change in BDNF from baseline after the VTh - 20. Changes in BDNF did not correlate with VO2max during the GXT, but they did correlate with changes in lactate. Cold Water Therapy- When exposed to cold showers, the sympathetic nervous system is activated, and the blood levels of beta-endorphin and noradrenaline is increased. Norepinephrine, an organic chemical that functions in the brain and body as a hormone that can help people feel happier, naturally is released in the brain as well. The cold water can also increase production of beta endorphins, or ‘feel good’ molecules that will give you a sense of wellbeing. The electrical impulses from peripheral nerve endings to the brain stimulates the dopaminergic transmission in the mesocorticolimbic and nigrostriatal pathway.
