My drop shot system includes a variety of rigs. Therefore I plan to spend this next series on how I approach drop shot systems.
Drop shot systems work best in my waters because I drift fish a lot, I troll a lot, and even when casting I have far fewer hang ups, and can generally cast further with fewer tangles with a drop shot rig than any other rig on the planet.
Drop shot systems for drift fishing works because the weight is at the bottom while the hook ride above. On the rocky, bedrock portion of the river I fish, the Black Warrior River, traditional Caronila rig easily snag on boulders, rocks, cracks and crevices on the river bottom. Given that I usually drag weight on the river bottom behind the boat. Once you start losing tons of tackle, you start to think twice about your rigs.
Drop shot systems for fishing include a ton of different weight types, sizes, resources and such. How do I rig drop shot systems? The general principle is always the same. Weight at the bottom hooks, flies and lures above.
