Google Shopping - Why Is Bidding So Important? (Circa 2013)
Find out more about our services at http://www.cpcstrategy.com Equally important to your data feed are your product bids. Google's algorithms take into account the information in your data feed and your product bids to decide where to display your products in their Google Shopping search engine results page (SERPs). Whether you have a small ecommerce store with only a few hundred products or an online superstore with hundreds of thousands of products, with the right bids you can get the top spot in the SERPs. This video will tell you how! For more information about Comparison Shopping and all things Ecommerce, check out our blog at http://www.cpcstrategy.com/blog Transcript: Hi everyone, I'm Rick Backus, from CPC Strategy and we're making this video today to answer the question "why is bidding so important on Google product listing ads?" The first reason is that you weren't able to bid on Google shopping previously, which was really frustrating for a lot of retailers, a lot of agencies. The traffic was free, which was great, but you had almost no control over the outcome in terms of where Google showed your products. If you had a product that was converting really well, you couldn't give it more exposure. That leads us right into the second reason, which is that bidding allows you to gain control. It's awesome to be able to look at all of your products within Google product listing ads, figure out the right bid, see how that product is converting and adjust the bids accordingly. That's an option that just wasn't there before. You can try to be as sophisticated as you want to be on Google shopping when it's was free, and ultimately it was up to Google on how much exposure they gave your products. That's still true to a certain extent, but the bidding has shifted that responsibility over to you, and so if you're outsmarting your competitors with your bidding strategy, you're actually benefiting from that. The third reason is that you can get a top 3 position. All these reasons relate to control, but getting into the top 3 position on Google product listing ads, we've seen, can give your products significantly more exposure. Google is rotating its product listing ads. Sometimes they show 3 products, sometimes they show 6, but within your average position going from 3.2 to 2.8, it can have a really big difference on how often Google is showing that product. These are the reasons why bidding is so important. It's one of the sections that we cover in our e-book, which is over 90pages. It got ridiculously long. You can download the e-book for free. It'll not only explain the bidding, but everything else that you could possibly want to know about Google listing ads, so you should definitely check out the e- book. That's it. I'm Rick Backus, and we are CPC Strategy.

How should I organize my AdWords account?
Google AdWords is now Google Ads. Learn how to save time and reach the right customers by organizing your campaigns, ad groups, ads, and keywords properly. #AdWordsTips Learn more: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1704396 This video contains captions. To enable them, click the captions icon at the bottom right-hand side of the video. _______________________________________________________ SCRIPT: Meet Maria. She’s the owner of Maria’s Boutique. And a firm believer that everything should be organized just so… Especially her AdWords account. In fact, she’ll tell you that keeping her account well-organized is one of the secrets to her AdWords success… Because it means her ads are more likely to be seen by the customers she wants to reach… ...and she spends less time managing her account day-to-day. To see how Maria got her account organized just so, let’s go back to the beginning. Step one was creating her Account, beginning with selecting the email and password she’ll use to sign in … And providing information like her contact information and billing details. Strictly speaking, an active AdWords Account must contain at least one Campaign. And in that Campaign, one Ad Group. But like most successful advertisers, Maria’s account is made up of several campaigns. And multiple Ad Groups. Campaigns are where you make big-picture choices like when and where ads can appear … and the campaign’s overall budget. Maria got started by creating one campaign for each section of her website. ...“Jackets” … “Shoes” … And so on. And as her business grew, she stuck with this winning formula -- keeping Campaigns broad -- as she moved into new markets, and promoted unique events in her store. Setting up her Campaigns this way also gave her a lot of flexibility. Like being able to adjust the budget on her “jackets” campaign when sales started to slow. And promote the store’s “Winter Sale” with a special campaign she set up to show video ads to readers of fashion blogs, rather than alongside search results. Maria’s organizational talent really came into play when she started adding Ad Groups to her Campaigns. Ad Groups are collections of related keywords, ads and bids, and work best when they’re focused on one particular theme. This makes it easy for Maria to select the right keywords to reach customers searching for the things in her store. And link her ads to highly relevant pages on her website-- a good habit for showing website visitors just what they’re looking for and converting more of those visitors into new customers. So whether you’re just getting started with AdWords, or a longtime user, think about the best ways to organize your account. ...and boost your AdWords success. For more information about how to organize your account, visit the AdWords Help Center.

Pick a Leader Identify an account lead and set up a system for maintaining the account. How will they report performance to others? How often will they log in to maintain the account? We recommend at least once a week; Google’s best practices say once every two weeks. There should be more time at the beginning or if you have seasonal events, but once you set up a robust account, an hour a week should be plenty. ------- 2. Brainstorm Without even opening the account - brainstorm the high-level things people might be searching for that would lead them to your site. Think backwards - your site is the answer, what is the question? Be creative about the keywords you want to capitalize on. Here are some tools you'll want to use: Google’s Keyword Planner Google Trends Google’s Autocomplete feature ...Your own content! ------- 3. Bucket Your Keywords Organize the keywords into general categories. A good rule of thumb is that all of the Ad Groups within a campaign should lead to the same landing page. If you’re doing any geo-targeting or bid adjustment, you’ll want to separate campaigns accordingly (i.e. a Germany campaign and a Ireland Campaign), since AdWords only allows you to adjust geographic targeting and most other settings at the campaign level. ------- 4. Identify landing pages These should be conversion-oriented pages with a clear purpose and clear call to action. You may have one, you may have many, depending on how many landing pages your site has. ------- 5. Write ads We recommend starting with two ads per ad group - from there you can see which performs the best and try to beat your top ad each week. If you build out too many ads, they’ll all be competing to be shown whenever someone searches, so you want to keep it to two so you’re always putting your best ad forward. ------- 6. Set it all up... ...and watch it grow. We're not going to get into the nitty-gritty, there are tons more resources on the actual setup. ------- 7. Analyze and Repeat. Make sure your AdWords account is linked to Google Analytics so you can analyze which campaigns or keywords are performing the best. Then, build on what’s working...and pause what’s not. ------- Whole Whale is a digital agency that leverages data and technology to increase the impact of nonprofits.
