Muhammed Ali Clay Quotes & Facts - The Greatest Where was Muhammad Ali born? Muhammad Ali's birth name was Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 17, 1942. His father, Cassius Clay, Sr., worked as a sign painter and his mother, Odessa, worked as a maid. Young Cassius had a younger brother named Rudy. The Clays weren't rich, but they weren't poor either. During the time Cassius grew up, southern states like Kentucky were segregated by race. This meant that there were different facilities such as schools, restaurants, swimming pools, and restrooms for black people and white people. Laws called Jim Crow Laws enforced this separation and made life difficult on African Americans like Cassius. Becoming a Boxer When Cassius was twelve years old, someone stole his bike. He was very angry. He told a police officer that he was going to beat up the person who stole it. It turned out that the officer, Joe Martin, was a boxing coach. Joe told Cassius that he better learn how to fight before he tried beating anyone up. Cassius took Joe up on his offer and was soon learning how to box. Cassius discovered that he had a real talent for boxing. He was much faster than other fighters his size. He could throw a quick punch and then dodge out of the way before the other fighter could react. He fought 105 fights as an amateur fighter, winning 100 and only losing 5. He also won several Gold Glove championships and was soon considered one of the best amateur light-heavyweight boxers in the world. Hiking in Everest Base Camp

Hiking in Everest Base Camp I have just returned from hiking to Everest Base Camp with Yomads, which provides unique travel experiences for the 20s and 30s. It was a very strange time to start a trek – just days after the Everest tragedy, in which 16 sherpa guides were killed. I interviewed a couple of the climbers and will share my thoughts on that in an upcoming post. This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. Quotes by Lionel Richie Quotes by Lionel Richie “Soul is a feeling, not a color,” “I think the whole world is dying to hear someone say, 'I love you.' I think that if I can leave the legacy of love and passion in the world, then I think I've done my job in a world that's getting colder and colder by the day.” “Greatness comes from fear. Fear can either shut us down and we go home, or we fight through it.” “So much of my career has been about saying things the way people say them, using melodies not that I can sing but that the people can sing.” “Exactly when people are in turmoil is the time that the entertainment business has always been at its best. Because people don't want to be reminded every day that they are under siege, or that they're not having a great time of life.” “I'm easy like Sunday Morning...” “It's quite interesting that in my growing up I had several influences. We had gospel music on campus. R&B music was, of course, the community, and radio was country music. So I can kind of see where all the influences came from.” “The best compliment that has ever been given to me was, I was at the airport one day and a guy came in and said, 'Lionel, my wife loves you, the kids love you, my mother-in-law loves you, the family loves you.” “I find the greatest songs in the world come out of pain, and I don't like it! Here's what it does: It strips away all of your facade. It makes you so honest. It's cleansing.” “All artists are egotistical maniacs with inferiority complexes.” “When will we ever learn, there's nowhere else we can turn.” “No one can deny, this love I have inside, and I'll give it all to you, my endless love.” “Let the music play on would be my legacy.” “People have allowed me into their homes, through my words and my music.” “By growing up in Alabama, I had a melting pot of the whole pie: R&B, gospel, country.” “Forget about 40 years in show business. Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie is enough.” “I am a country boy and proud of it.” “Traveling did a great deal to me. I found that when I travel and just sit in the corner and watch, a million ideas come to me.” “Lionel Richie, love song, OK, thank you very much, good-bye. And all of a sudden I realized that, in my career, what has made my career has always been the surprises.” “I find myself going out on the road to get my confidence back, because I lose it at home.” “I just had to find all my friends that used to be in the business. As I say, the music business didn't die, it just moved to Nashville.” “Growing up with country, R&B, gospel, and classical music from my grandmother and pop, Tuskegee was the perfect melting pot for my influences as a writer.” “The music business was not safe, but it was FUN. It was like falling in love with a woman you know is bad for you, but you love every minute with her, anyway.” “Country is bringing in a little rock element... a little '80s element. Melody is king now. But its just in the music, its not so much in the songwriting, which is still very basic to the storytelling aspect of it.” “Believe me, I love commerce as much as the rest of the readers of 'Businessweek.' But in art, you have to be true to yourself and your musical vision. People have known me well for a long time, so if I was chasing a trend and doing something that wasn't authentic to who I am, they would know it in just a few seconds.” “People, as critical as it looks, we're OK. We are in control, whether we feel it or not.” “My earliest memories of country music are the Grand Ole Opry.” “Just when I think it couldn't get any bigger, 'Tuskegee' reaches a new level of success.” “I'm a songwriter, and people will tell you the greatest stories about their lives, whether you want to hear it or not.” “I grew up with the Grand Ole Opry, Dottie West, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens... not realizing it was influencing me as much as it was.” “I always like to challenge myself. I never want to be put into a box.” “Country music has always been about as close to R&B as you can possibly get. We're storytellers.” “I don't think I'm going to be priest material.” “I just like people. I'll hold a conversation at a gas station. It's not about the fame and the fortune, I just like people.” Thank you for watching Please hit the LIKE button if you liked the video This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. Brian May Quotes - Best Quotes by Brian May

05:06
Brian May Quotes - Best Quotes by Brian May In the late 1960s, Brian Harold May was an eager student in physics, studying to become an astronomer. He also happened to be a gigging musician. In 1968, he came to musical attention with the band Smile, and later went on to headline tours as part of the band Queen. In 1974, he put his studies aside to perform and tour with Queen. With the death in 1991 of lead singer Freddie Mercury, Brian May embarked on a solo career as a musician even while performing with Queen and other musicians. Yet, as he has often noted, his past as a scientist never strayed far from his mind. Eventually, Brian May went back to school to finish his work. In 2008, he was granted his Ph.D., and since then has gone on to do more work in planetary science. Career in Astrophysics As a graduate student, May had been interested in studying dust particles in the solar system and had published two research papers. Eager to resume that work, he enrolled as a graduate student again in 2006. He finished his studies and got himself back up to speed on studies of dust particles during the years he'd been away touring as a musician. His thesis work, titled A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud was submitted in 2007, 37 years after he started the research. He used techniques of absorption spectroscopy and Doppler spectroscopy to study the light scattered by dust particles in the solar system. He did his work at Teide Observatory in the Canary Islands. After review by his advisors and a thesis committee, Brian May's thesis was accepted. He was awarded his doctorate on May 14, 2008. May went on to become a visiting researcher at Imperial College, where he continues to do work. He has also been involved the New Horizons mission to the planet Pluto as a science team collaborator due to his solar system work. He acted as chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University from 2008-2013 and has appeared numerous times on such programs as BBC's "Sky at Night" show. He wrote books with the late astronomer Sir Patrick Moore and writer Chris Lintott. Activism and Additional Interests Thanks to his work with the late Sir Moore, May participated in the efforts to save Moore's estate and effects. He is also an avid supporter of animal rights and animal welfare. He continues to raise funds and awareness of issues involving wildlife in the UK and elsewhere. May has contributed his musical talents to spread the word about issues involving hunting and culling of animals in his home country. Quite apart from his activities in astronomy, music, and animal rights, Brian May is also a collector of Victorian stereography. He has written a book about T.R. Williams, the English stereographer. This hobby started when May was still in graduate school in the 1970s and has given him a massive collection of stereo pair images. He has also patented a viewer called the "Owl Viewer," which can be used to examine the stereographic scenes in his latest book. Accomplishments In addition to his immense success with the band Queen, Brian May has achieved notable success in the field of astrophysics. Asteroid 52665 Brianmay was named after him, as was a species of damselfly (heteragron brianmayi). In 2005, he was given a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his achievements in music. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. Paul Mccartney Interview - (2019)

05:10
Paul Mccartney Interview - (2019) He's a rock star, a music legend with dozens of platinum albums — a Beatle. But even after more than 50 years behind the microphone, Paul McCartney still has self-doubt. "I think if you care about what you're doing, if you really want to get it right, then you've got to deal with insecurities," he tells 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi . "It's what makes it right." In a candid, wide-ranging interview on 60 Minutes, McCartney admits a few things. For starters, he doesn't know how to read or write music — surprisingly, none of the Beatles did. When it comes to handling his stardom, McCartney says he won't take a selfie with people who approach him, though he will chat with them. Given the number of people who stop him on the street, McCartney must have a lot of chats. "Who's been famous longer than Paul McCartney?" Alfonsi asks 60 Minutes Overtime's Ann Silvio. "He handles it really well. I think a lot of people could learn from the way he manages fame." But one admission in particular seems to emerge as a theme throughout the interview: At 77, Paul McCartney still feels he has to prove himself the way he did when the Beatles' first album came out 56 years ago. "It doesn't matter how elevated you get or your reputation gets, you still worry about things," McCartney tells Alfonsi on the broadcast. McCartney, it turns out, wasn't the only Beatle with doubt. he tells of a quiet moment between the bandmates, when John Lennon revealed that he also felt uncertain — about his own legacy. "I remember him once particularly strangely, out of the blue, saying, 'I worry about how people are going to remember me,' " McCartney reveals. "And I was like, 'John listen to me, look at me. You're going to be remembered as one of the greatest people.'" As McCartney explains on the broadcast, his friendship with Lennon was complex. Songwriting partners since they were teenagers, the two collaborated in writing some of the most popular songs in music. A sense of competition also pushed them to create even more, even though Lennon only complimented McCartney once. "The relationship was so complicated," says Bill Owens, who produced this week's profile on McCartney. "They needed each other so much. I think Paul McCartney is the only person who could tell John Lennon 'No,' or 'That doesn't work.'" Lennon was also able to tell McCartney when his lyrics needed tweaking. When McCartney initially wrote "I Saw Her Standing There," the original opening lines were, "She was just 17 / She'd never been a beauty queen." But Lennon wasn't so sure. "So I said, 'Well, let's change it,'" McCartney says. Lennon also encouraged McCartney to finish a melody he'd begun singing as a teenager. McCartney says he and George Harrison used to tag along with Lennon to art school parties. In an attempt to look more sophisticated, McCartney says he wore black turtlenecks and sat in a corner, where he strummed a guitar and sang in French. He hoped, unsuccessfully, to impress a girl. The girl never came, but a new song did. "Years later, John did say, 'Remember that crazy little French thing you had?'" McCartney remembers, "He said, 'You should finish that.' So I finished it.'" That "crazy little French thing" became his song "Michelle." Today, McCartney draws songwriting inspiration from everyday events, even when life can leave him feeling frazzled. "Sometimes one of the great things [that] motivates a song is anguish," he tells Alfonsi "You've just been through something, like, either very annoying or disappointing, or worrying, or whatever." On one such occasion, he sat down at his piano and worked out what he was feeling. The result was the song "I Don't Know," which appears on his new album. He says it's a testament to the fact that, with his anxieties and insecurities, he still doesn't have things figured out. "But in a way it was a good thing, because I was sincere about crows at my window and dogs at my door, and everything was getting a bit much," McCartney says. "So I was able to sort of tell it to the piano." Camila Cabello Facts - Top Facts

05:22
Camila Cabello Facts - Top Facts Camila Cabello Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (born March 3, 1997), known by her stage name Camila Cabello, is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter. She is a pop, R&B, and Latin-influenced performer who first came to prominence as a founding member of the girl group Fifth Harmony. Born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao in Cojimar, Cuba, Cabello moved to Miami, Florida at the age of six. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking environment (her mother is Cuban and her father is Mexican), she fostered her love of music by listening to Celia Cruz and Alejandro Fernández. At the age of 15, she auditioned for The X Factor in Greensboro, North Carolina. Even though she was eliminated (along with her four future groupmates), the judges brought her back. Simon Cowell combined the girls into a quintet and formed Fifth Harmony. Despite finishing in third place, they went on to be the most successful contestants from that season. The group's debut EP, Better Together, was released in October 2013, with acoustic reworkings, Spanish versions (Juntos and Juntos Acoustic), and a remix album following a month later. Their debut single, "Miss Movin' On," was the highest-charting U.S. X Factor single at the time, a feat beaten only by each successive Fifth Harmony single. The group's debut LP, Reflection, was released in early 2015, featuring the hits "Sledgehammer" (written by Meghan Trainor) and "Worth It," featuring rapper Kid Ink. While backstage on Taylor Swift's 1989 world tour, Cabello wrote a duet with Canadian singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was released in November 2015 and immediately hit the Billboard Top 20. Fifth Harmony's sophomore set, 7/27, was issued in 2016, supported by a world tour and the hit single "Work from Home." Outside of Fifth Harmony, Cabello paired with rapper Machine Gun Kelly for the October 2016 single "Bad Things." Well received, the track made a slow climb toward the top of the Billboard singles chart, and ultimately garnered the singer her first Top Ten song as a solo artist. That December, Cabello announced her departure from Fifth Harmony. Following her exit, Cabello collaborated with Cashmere Cat on "Love Incredible" and Pitbull and J Balvin on "Hey Ma" from the Fate of the Furious soundtrack. Aerogel Insulation - Getting More Heat Out of Sunlight

06:33
Aerogel Insulation - Getting More Heat Out of Sunlight A newly developed material that is so perfectly transparent you can barely see it could unlock many new uses for solar heat. It generates much higher temperatures than conventional solar collectors do — enough to be used for home heating or for industrial processes that require heat of more than 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit). The key to the process is a new kind of aerogel, a lightweight material that consists mostly of air, with a structure made of silica (which is also used to make glass). The material lets sunlight pass through easily but blocks solar heat from escaping. The findings are described in the journal ACS Nano, in a paper by Lin Zhao, an MIT graduate student; Evelyn Wang, professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Gang Chen, the Carl Richard Soderberg Professor in Power Engineering; and five others. The key to efficient collection of solar heat, Wang explains, is being able to keep something hot internally while remaining cold on the outside. One way of doing that is using a vacuum between a layer of glass and a dark, heat-absorbing material, which is the method used in many concentrating solar collectors but is relatively expensive to install and maintain. There has been great interest in finding a less expensive, passive system for collecting solar heat at the higher temperature levels needed for space heating, food processing, or many industrial processes. Aerogels, a kind of foam-like material made of silica particles, have been developed for years as highly efficient and lightweight insulating materials, but they have generally had limited transparency to visible light, with around a 70 percent transmission level. Wang says developing a way of making aerogels that are transparent enough to work for solar heat collection was a long and difficult process involving several researchers for about four years. But the result is an aerogel that lets through over 95 percent of incoming sunlight while maintaining its highly insulating properties. The collision that created the moon might have also brought water to the early earth - Theia planet

05:03
The collision that created the moon might have also brought water to the early earth - Theia planet The collision that created the moon might have also brought water to the early earth Scientists at the University of Munster have discovered that Earth got its water from a collision with Theia. Theia was the ancient body that collided with Earth and formed the Moon. Their discovery shows that Earth’s water is much more ancient than previously thought. The standing theory for the formation of the Moon involves an ancient body called Theia. About 4.4 billion years ago, Theia collided with Earth. The collision created a massive debris ring, and the Moon formed from that debris. Standing theory also says that Earth gathered its water over time, after the collision with Theia, with comets and asteroids delivering the water. But the new study from the University of Munster presents evidence that supports a different source for Earth’s water: Theia itself. Angelina Jolie Quotes

06:27
Angelina Jolie Quotes If we were to describe Angelina Jolie in one word, it would surely be “compassionate”. The beautiful mother of 6 children (three of whom were adopted) is very involved in a number of humanitarian missions around the world. She’s received Global Humanitarian Action Award from the UN for her involvement on behalf of refugee rights and her ability to draw attention to global issues. With all that going on we tend to forget that Angelina Jolie is also an established actress. She is the winner of three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Oscar. Women admire Jolie while men fantasize about her. It isn’t so much her accomplishments that impress us, but how she has matured into a role model for how you can live a dream life while still devoting yourself to helping others. Rafael Nadal is playing mind games with you

08:24
Rafael Nadal is playing mind games with you When you think of Rafael Nadal, you might think of a player who hits balls with hellacious topspin and grinds out points on clay. His RPMs and his sweat grab the glory. But the 11-time French Open champion uses a few insidious tricks that go beyond the obvious strokes and traditional tactics. All of Rafa’s ways and means traveled to Roland Garros in 2019 — the energy, the rituals, the patterns of play — it’s all been put to use in another run to the semifinals, this time at age 33. He’ll need every tactic at his disposal, the conspicuous and the cunning, as he takes on Roger Federer and potentially Novak Djokovic after that. Here are three examples of the subtle mental maneuvers that Nadal makes against his opponents. This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. BET Awards 2019

06:05
BET Awards 2019 source : https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2019/06/24/bet-awards-5-major-moments-you-missed/1517108001/ Missed the BET Awards? Don't worry. We've got some of the top highlights. Actress and comedian Regina Hall hosted an upbeat show, tempered with some serious moments, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night, although she made an extraordinary effort to pay homage to her hometown, Washington, D.C., throughout the show. Mary J. Blige showed her stuff in a rousing performance after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus entertained the crowd with "Old Town Road" performed on a saloon-styled set. They even rode in on horses in a pre-taped piece. On a more somber note, the ceremony honored rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was killed in March, with the Humanitarian Award and actors Morris Chestnut and Damson Idris paid tribute to director John Singleton, who died in April. Chestnut starred in Singleton's groundbreaking directorial debut, 1991's "Boyz n the Hood," and Idris plays the lead character in the Singleton-produced FX series, "Snowfall." Here are more highlights from the show: Star couple opener: Cardi B and Offset The Microsoft Theater crowd was on its feet at the start with a starry opening number featuring Cardi B and her husband, Offset, accompanied by a stage-filling dance ensemble. After Offset opened with "Clout," he disappeared behind the dancers. When they split to the sides, he was seated in a chair with Cardi B dancing on his lap. The music then segued into "Press," a hit for Cardi B, the most-nominated performer of the night and the winner for best album. Beyoncé, D.C. and 'Da Butt' The ceremony was held in Los Angeles, but Hall kicked off her hosting gig paying tribute to Beyoncé's Netflix doc "Homecoming" and her own hometown of Washington. In a taped piece mirroring Beyoncé's behind-the-scenes orchestrations, Hall tested dance and music performers on their Washington legitimacy, rejecting one man who didn't know what Hains Point is (a park area) and a baton twirler. ("Why's she got a baton? This ain't D.C. Only people who have batons in D.C. are the police.") The live performance that followed had a heavy D.C. influence, with Rare Essence and Sugar Bear of Unlimited Experience onstage performing the 1988 go-go hit "Da Butt." Hall enthusiastically danced along, her backside to the audience, before being joined by another Capital City native, Taraji P. Henson. Nipsey Hussle gets 'Higher' tribute from DJ Khaled, John Legend Less than three months after Hussle was memorialized just across the street at Staples Center, the rapper, who was killed March 31, received a tribute at the awards show. T.I. opened the segment, which followed an In Memoriam piece, by celebrating more than Hussle's acclaimed musical career. Calling him by his real name, T.I. said, "Ermias Asghedom was more than a rapper, a teacher, an activist and philanthropist – he was a revolutionary." He pointed to Hussle's commitment to empowering black artists and their communities. "His emphasis on the power of equity and ownership of our art led the charge of independence and created a blueprint for up-and-coming artists today to follow," he said of Hussle, renowned for supporting his Los Angeles neighborhood. After a film tribute that featured such luminaries as musician Snoop Dogg and director Ava DuVernay, Hussle's family, including his fiancée, Lauren London, accepted the 2019 Humanitarian Award in his honor. "I just want to thank you guys for all the love and support. And the marathon continues again," London said. A musical tribute followed, which featured Marsha Ambrosius. It was capped by an appearance by DJ Khaled and Legend, who performed "Higher," a track that features all three of them. DJ Khaled has said all the proceeds from the song will go to Hussle's children. Rihanna, Lil' Kim, Method Man salute Mary J. Blige How do you honor a huge star? Bring out another one to make the award presentation. Rihanna took the stage Sunday to sing the praises of Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Blige, lauding her groundbreaking effort to introduce "a brand new vibe: hip-hop and R&B." She praised Blige's style-setting ways, including backwards cap, baggy jerseys and thigh-high boots, but she emphasized her importance in blazing a path for performers who followed. "On behalf of all the women who came after you, like myself, thank you for being you so we could feel comfortable being ourselves," Rihanna said of the nine-time Grammy winner. Blige opened her speech with what appeared to be a written but strongly heartfelt offer of thanks to family – "Mommy, I love you and I want to thank you for your love and understanding" and "Daddy … I'm so happy that our relationship has healed" – and friends.
