Circle Hooks For Catfish - 3 Mistakes That Cost You Fish

05:53
Circle hooks are one of the most popular hooks among catfish anglers and for good reason. They're a very effective tool for catching all species of catfish, all sizes and using a variety of techniques. They haven't always been that popular though. When it comes to circle hooks for catfish there's two groups, those that love them, those that hate them and there's rarely much in between. If you've never used circle hooks to catch catfish or used them before and didn't have success there's hope because most often the reason people struggle with catching catfish using a circle hooks is either that they're using the wrong hook or not using the hook correctly. Unlike many hooks that can be set or will set themselves anywhere they come in contact the circle hook works different. For a circle hook to work the hook has to slide, catch and turn for it to hook and that hook usually happens right in the corner of the mouth. If you're using a circle hook that's not large enough or does not have a large enough gap then you'll miss fish and lose fish. It's critical when fishing for catfish that you use a larger hook and pay close attention to the gap. The mouth of a catfish is thick and tough, unlike the paper thin mouth of most other freshwater fish and most standard "run of the mill" circle hooks aren't large enough and don't have large enough gaps to function correctly with catfish, especially big catfish. In this weeks catfishing quick tip from Catfish Edge, Chad Ferguson walks you through the three mistakes that cost you fish when using circle hooks and how to correct them. These include choosing the right hooks, making sure you have a large enough hook gap, making sure you hook the bait correctly and preventing fouled hooks. These tips will no doubt help you increase your success catching catfish and make circle hooks much more effective. We'll be back as well with another video walking you through everything you need to know about using circle hooks, the different techniques and information on how to set the hook with a circle hook because you actually can despite what others may have told you. For more details on the circle hook mistakes visit the link below at Catfish Edge http://www.catfishedge.com/circle-hooks-catfish-mistakes/ Hook up with us on social media at: http://instagram.com/catchcatfish https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge https://plus.google.com/b/100005235670931395108/+Catfishedge/ Make sure you subscribe to the Catfish Edge channel at http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=learntocatchcatfish

3 Ways To Catch Catfish With Circle Hooks (Plus You CAN Set The Hook)

05:33
Circle hooks are the most popular hooks used by catfish anglers for good reason. They catch fish, that is if they're used correctly and you're using the right hooks. Several months ago I posted a video called Circle Hooks For Catfish - 3 Mistakes That Cost You Fish and covered some of the common mistakes that anglers make when choosing and using circle hooks. I had a lot of people contact me at that time looking for more details on circle hooks and how to use them to catch more catfish, and many of those questions were about technique. How do you catch catfish with circle hooks? Can you use a bait clicker or line alarm with circle hooks? Can you set the hook with circle hooks? There were so many questions on the topic I decided to come back with another catfishing video to cover the techniques or how to catch catfish with circle hooks. This video, 3 Ways To Catch Catfish With Circle Hooks (Plus You CAN Set The Hook) covers all the details you need to catch catfish with circle hooks and be successful and covers a variety of techniques (that all work). In this video I cover: How to let the hooks do the work for you when catfishing. The reel reel reel technique. Setting the hooks with circle hooks. Different catfish bites. How catfish don't always grab the bait and pull down. How using the right catfish rod makes the difference when using circle hooks. Be sure you check out the article at Catfish Edge also because you'll find much more details on these techniques and catching cats with these hooks at http://www.catfishedge.com/circle-hooks-catfish-how-to/ If you haven't done so make sure you check out the other video, Circle Hooks For Catfish - 3 Mistakes That Cost You Fish at https://youtu.be/pkkpeCZ7wYQ or on the Catfish Edge website at http://www.catfishedge.com/circle-hooks-catfish-mistakes/ Like this information? The 3 Top Catfish Rigs (That Always Catch Catfish)

06:34
Catfish rigs or how you setup your fishing rod to fish for catfish are a popular topic among those that visit Catfish Edge and something anglers are always seeking more information on. We've covered many of the top catfish rigs on the Catfish Edge site but still get questions on a daily basis. If you start looking at all of the options you'll find a wide variety of rigs for catfishing and the information can become very confusing quickly. With that in mind I created this video to cut through all the clutter, all the many options and break it down in it's most basic form so anglers who're just getting started targeting catfish or just getting serious about catfishing can find all of the "must know" information here in one place. In this video I cover the three essential catfish rigs the slip sinker rig, santee rig and slip bobber rig (I actually use the Secret Catfish Rig instead of a slip bobber but the slip bobber is a great alternative). You'll learn the details on how to tie these rigs, what makes them effective, which species of catfish and techniques you can use them for and more in this weeks video from Catfish Edge. For more details on catfish rigs check out the resources at Catfish Edge through the link below http://www.catfishedge.com/catfish-rigs/ For more videos on Catfish Rigs check out the playlist below https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTe2JJHpFDV_dpG9ybKIP9hfTgj-_nfZW Follow us on social media at: https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge http://instagram.com/catchcatfish https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish https://plus.google.com/b/100005235670931395108/+Catfishedge/

[New] Abu Garcia Catfish Special Reels

02:24
Early this year Abu Garcia sent me some of their new special edition catfish reels for field testing. I’ve been using the reels ever since and putting them through the paces catching catfish. They’ve shown up in the background of some of my videos on accident. I’ve had a ton of questions from people seeing them in my videos but couldn’t discuss the reels until Abu Garcia made their formal announcement. They released the round reels to the public at iCast in July so I’m finally in a position where I can talk a bit more about these reels. I had the opportunity to check out a number of their other new products at iCast (in addition to the catfish reels). They’ve got some great products hitting the market soon that are all worthy of checking out (as usual). They’ve got an awesome new Revo Beast Musky Reel (I’m really hoping they follow up with a similar catfish reel next year) a catfish spinning reel combo and some slick apparel. There’s two reels in the “Catfish Special” series, the 6500 C3 Catfish Special and 7000 Catfish Special. In this weeks Catfishing Video from Catfish Edge, Chad Ferguson gives you a look at these two new special edition catfish reels from Abu Garcia. For more in depth information on these reels check out the article at Catfish Edge http://www.catfishedge.com/abu-garcia-catfish-special/ For more information on choosing the right catfish reels check out http://www.catfishedge.com/catfish-reels/ Follow us on Instagram http://instagram.com/catchcatfish Facebook https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge Twitter https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish

How To Anchor Your Catfish Boat The Right Way [No Sway]

04:59
There's two basic ways to catch catfish, either fishing on anchor or drift fishing. Sure, there's lots of different variations of these techniques with different names but in the end you're either sitting still (anchored) or moving (drifting). If you're going to fish with your catfish boat on anchor and sitting still then learning how to anchor your catfish boat the right way is critical to your success. You'll catch a lot more catfish, spend a lot less time fighting your catfish gear and trying to keep your lines tight and have much less frustration when you're out on the water. In this weeks catfishing tip video Chad Ferguson from Catfish Edge walks you through everything you need to know to learn how to anchor your catfish boat in lakes and reservoirs. This anchor technique will hold your boat perfectly still, allow you to place your boat exactly where you want over or near the catfish and will keep your boat from moving with the wind. For even more details to help you learn how to anchor your catfish boat check out the in depth resource on the Catfish Edge website at http://www.catfishedge.com/anchor-catfish-boat/

How To Level a Fish Finder Transducer (For Better Images) Humminbird Helix G2N

10:07
I'm back with more install tips as I've been installing the new Humminbird Helix 12 G2N and getting to use the new Humminbird Mega Imaging. I'm using a Humminbird fish finder but the same process applies to any transducer. I frequently post screenshots on social media from my sonar unit and constantly have a steady stream of anglers and guide clients on my boat. A comment I get from anglers all the time (who often have the exact same fish finder” is my screen doesn’t look like yours, they’re not as clear or detailed. My fish finder is EVERYTHING when it comes to finding and catching fish. I spend a LOT of time watching it, searching for fish and rely on it almost exclusively for finding catfish. I’d be lost without it. Today I'm going to show you one of the simple things most anglers miss which is leveling the fish finder transducer, this is a MAJOR reason you don't get the good images on your fish finder. The process is simple and best of all I'll show you how to level the fish finder transducer with one time out on the water to get it perfect, no pulling on and off the trailer making transducer adjustments. Get more details http://www.catfishedge.com/level-fish-finder-transducer/ For more details on fish finder installation and other steps to take to make sure you get the best performance check out the video below. http://www.catfishedge.com/fish-finder-installation-tips/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZiQhBb4woo ******Get more catfishing tips and information****** http://www.catfishedge.com ******Get official Catfish Edge gear, ebooks, feature length videos and more****** https://www.catfishedge.com/products/ ******Fish with me****** http://www.txcatfishguide.com https://www.catfishedge.com/catfish-edge-guide-service/ ******About Chad Ferguson and Catfish Edge****** Chad Ferguson is a professional catfish angler with over 20 years of experience fishing for catfish who owns and operates Catfish Edge and North Texas Catfish Guide Service. Fishing Spots For Catfish (and Why You Shouldn't)

02:50
Anglers are always on a search for “spots” to catch fish. There’s great discussions about different fishing spots or catfish spots, what are the best spots etc and a constant quest for the best location to catch catfish. This often results in many anglers being what I call “spot fishermen”. These are anglers that fish an area because they’ve caught fish there in the past, seen someone else catching fish there or heard from someone that it’s a "good spot” but being a spot fisherman is the wrong way to go if you want to be successful catching catfish. It’s not a bad thing to have locations in your arsenal to look for fish or a database of fishing spots but automatically fishing them because of past results or what you’ve heard wastes a lot of time and energy because fish move, especially blue catfish. In this weeks video I talk about spot fishing, some of my experiences with it and why you shouldn’t be a spot fisherman when fishing for catfish. ******Get more catfishing tips and information****** http://www.catfishedge.com ******Get official Catfish Edge gear, ebooks, feature length videos and more****** https://www.catfishedge.com/products/ ******Fish with me****** http://www.txcatfishguide.com https://www.catfishedge.com/catfish-edge-guide-service/ Other Videos Most Recent Upload ► https://goo.gl/wGwdlT Most Popular Video ► https://goo.gl/27gAIF ******About Chad Ferguson and Catfish Edge****** Chad Ferguson is a professional catfish angler with over 20 years of experience fishing for catfish who owns and operates Catfish Edge and North Texas Catfish Guide Service. Slip Sinker Rig: the One "Must Know" Catfish Rig

03:32
The slip sinker rig is what many catfish anglers consider to be one of the best or essential catfish rigs for catching catfish. While the slip sinker rig is one of the most basic catfish rigs it's a very effective rig for catching catfish of all species and can be used in a variety of catfishing techniques. This catfishing rig can be used for everything from drift fishing, controlled drifting, fishing on anchor and everything in between and will work for blue, channel and flathead catfish. The slip sinker rig is similar to what bass anglers call a carolina rig and saltwater anglers often refer to this as a sliding sinker rig. There are many options when it comes to setting up your fishing rod for catfish and many great catfish rigs to use in a variety of techniques and situations and even though this is a very basic catfish rig it will catch catfish and is very versatile. In this catfishing video from Catfish Edge Professional Catfish Angler Chad Ferguson walks you through the slip sinker rig for catching catfish and everything you need to know about how to tie and rig this for catching catfish. How To Rig Versa-Rattle Catfish Rig Rattles (My Favorite Ways To Rig)

03:36
In 2015 In released the Versa-Rattle catfish rig rattles with Whisker Seeker Tackle after significant experimenting using sound in catfish rigs. I'd had great success with Whisker Seeker's Big Bertha Rattler and their other rigs but didn't always want to use a float to catfish with. I wanted the versatility to integrate sound and vibration into any catfish rig so the Versa-Rattle was born. Whisker Seeker Tackle released the Gen 2 Versa-Rattle in late 2015 and have been shipping a newer updated model of the Versa-Rattle catfish rig rattles ever since then. These updated rattles were improved from the original rattles and are even better than ever (and much tougher than the first models that were available). Since my first video on the Versa-Rattles I've had a lot of questions on how to rig the Versa-Rattle on catfish rigs. The name came from the flexibility of the product and how versatile it is because it truly can be used with any catfish rig in any scenario. There are no limits to how you can use these when rigging but since I've had so many questions I wanted to share some of my favorites ways to rig the Versa-Rattles. In this weeks video I walk you through my three favorite ways to rig using this product and some of the applications you can use these in including how to rig with a slip sinker rig, a santee rig and a modified rig using a ball chain swivel. How To Use Humminbird Autochart Zero Lines (and WHY)

02:41
This week we cover how to use the Humminbird AutoChart Zero Lines SD card and why you might want to. I love the AutoChart Live feature but have just started using the Humminbird AutoChart Zero Lines SD card and I realized I've made a big mistake not using it sooner! It's cost me a lot of time and money by not using it! When you use the Humminbird AutoChart Live feature the mapping data records to the internal memory of the fish finder. There's a capacity of 8 hours and then the data begins to record over itself. The Humminbird AutoChart Zero Lines SD Card increases that capacity to 100 hours of recording time and also backs up the data and saves it on the card so you have it forever! You can record the AutoChart Live data on the internal storage on your Humminbird unit or directly to the Zero Lines Card. If you’ve already recorded data on your Humminbird then you simply insert the AutoChart Zero Lines SD Card in your Humminbird and a message pops up on screen notifying you that all of the internally stored data will be transferred to the card! Backup complete! From there you can remove the card, resume recording data internally or simply leave the card in the Humminbird unit to record the data directly to the card (and have immediate access to the AutoChart overlays). If I’d done this when I first started using the AutoChart Live feature I would have saved 24 hours of time on the water mapping the same areas over and over again and could have focused that time and energy on charting new areas! Drift Fishing For Catfish: 9 Essential Tips For Success

08:25
Drift fishing is a great way to catch catfish. It’s a very effective technique for catching channel and blue catfish and works for catching not only numbers of smaller catfish but trophy class cats as well. There’s a variety of different techniques for drift fishing that are advanced using a trolling motor to move or hold the angler’s boat often referred to as controlled drifting and then there’s what I refer to as “traditional drift fishing”. Traditional drift fishing is drifting for catfish in it’s most basic form and a technique that’s been used for decades. Traditional drifting uses the wind to move the boat and drag baits across the bottom of a lake or reservoir with a drift sock (or multiple drift socks) to hold the direction of the boat in the wind and maintain drift speed. It sounds very basic but to be successful there’s a lot more than “just going out and dragging some baits” so we’ve put together this list of drift fishing for catfish tips to help get you started on the path to success (catching fish). In this weeks video Chad Ferguson from Catfish Edge covers tips for drift fishing for catfish sharing some of his experience from his career of over fifteen years as a professional catfish guide. Here’s what’s covered in this video: Scattered fish and why drift fishing is a great way to catch them. Drift socks, what they’re used for and why you need them. Drift speed and why it’s important. Catfish rigs for drift fishing and a “rattling” catfish rig I’ve been using. Rods and why they’re important as well as what to look for. Reel options for these techniques. Tackle basics and what you’ll need. Bait for drifting and what the best bait is for success. Drifting vs fishing on anchor and what’s better. The hi-vis advantage and why you need it. More tips for using these techniques. Two Hook Rig or Double Hook Rig (Double Snell) [Catfishing Quick Tips #6]

06:43
http://www.catfishedge.com The two hook rig or double hook rig is not actually a catfish rig but rather a way of attaching two hooks to a line. When catfishing you can use this for presenting two different baits (with the hooks further apart) and putting the two hooks closer together you can use this for double hooking a large chunk of cut bait (like is commonly used when fishing for trophy blue catfish). In this week's Catfishing Quick Tips video from Learn To Catch Catfish we walk you through how to tie the two hook rig or double hook rig and discuss some of the applications it can be used in.

How To Read A Fish Finder : Finding Thermocline

03:55
There are many variables to fishing for catfish or any species of fish for that matter and choosing the right target location. There are times where 90% of the fish are found in 10% of the water and times that fish will be scattered all around the lake or reservoir. If you're going to fish in lakes and reservoirs with no current in the summer months then chances are you'll be faced with a thermocline in the body of water you're fishing. The thermocline sets in and a band of water develops in the lower third of the water column that has very little or no oxygen. Fish (like catfish) can venture down below the thermocline to feed but they can't stay there for an extended period of time. Learning when and why a thermocline develops is a great start to increasing your fishing success. Once you've learned this then you need to know how to identify a thermocline on your sonar fish finder so you can actually find fish and even more important determine where you shouldn't be fishing. In this weeks catfishing video from Catfish Edge, Chad Ferguson takes you on board his SeaArk ProCat 240 catfish boat and using his Humminbird Onix sonar fish finder walks you through how to find the thermocline using your fish finder on your home waters. The same basic adjustments and principals of finding the thermocline on your fish finder apply to all makes and models of sonar fish finders so you should have no problems learning this and finding the thermocline on your home lakes and reservoirs. 3 Side Imaging Fish Finder Tips For Better Images (and Finding More Fish)

04:28
I’m often posting screenshots from my Humminbird fish finder on the Catfish Edge website and on social media. When I post these images I always get lots of comments from anglers about how their fish finders don’t look anything close to mine and they just don’t get the same images from their fish finder. With that in mind, I decided I’d put together a few videos covering some tips for better fish finder images using side imaging, down imaging and 2D sonar. I’m starting this week with tips on getting better fish finder images from your side imaging and will follow up in future videos covering the other types of sonar. It’s important to note that although I’m using a Humminbird Solix 15 in this tutorial the information covered in this video pertains to all sonar fish finders, not just Humminbird or just the Humminbird Solix. When I’m helping people to troubleshoot their side imaging issues and understand why they’re not getting good images the issues usually fall into two categories, installation issues and issues with improper use. Installation issues means the fish finder unit is not installed correctly. Some of the common issues include inadequate power sources or power sources causing interference, transducers not being installed correctly and transducers not being leveled. the improper use issues are what I’m covering in this weeks video but it’s important to note that if you’re getting interference or having issues because of transducer installation there’s no amount of tweaking or adjustments to your settings or use that will fix the issues. You need to have a good clean install, good transducer placement and the transducer leveled. Snelling A Hook The Easy Way (Snell For Triple Threat Hooks)

03:00
Since Whisker Seeker Tackle released the Triple Threat Catfish Hook I designed with them I’ve been getting a lot of questions from anglers about the best way to tie or rig the Triple Threat Catfish Hook and weather you should snell the hook. I published a video on how to snell a catfish hook using the easy snell about seven years ago and it’s buried so far back that people were having a hard time finding it so I decided to publish a new video to help answer these questions and show the process of snelling a hook. The knot I refer to as the “easy snell” is one of the simplest way to snell a hook, my “go to” knot for attaching hooks to leader line for catfish and it’s also one of the strongest fishing knots there is. In my 20+ years as a catfish guide I’ve never once had this “easy snell” come loose or fail on me causing me to lose a fish. In addition to snelling a hook I’ll cover the critical tip on the best way to do it. Yes, there’s a right and wrong way and if done incorrectly you can see a 20-25% reduction in the effectiveness of your hooks. Santee Cooper Rig For Catfish: A Catfishing Essential

03:55
The Santee Cooper Rig or "Santee Rig" is slight twist on one of the most basic and well known rigs for catching catfish, the slip sinker rig. Many anglers use the well known slip sinker rig for catching catfish using a variety of catfishing techniques but don't know about the Santee rig or Santee Cooper rig and it could definitely help you catch more catfish. The Santee Rig is tied the same as a slip sinker rig using a sliding sinker and leader but uses a small foam peg float or cigar float to help lift the bait off the bottom of the lake or river. Many anglers will also use a slightly longer leader as well when making this rig. By adding the small 2" or 3" foam peg float or cigar float on the leader a few inches below the hook it helps lift the bait off the bottom getting it out of the mud and sediment and also helps put the bait in the line of sight of the catfish. You can adjust the length of leader based on where the fish are holding in the water column to help keep the bait in front of the catfish. If catfish are holding close to the bottom or within a few feet then a shorter leader from eighteen to twenty four inches will work fine. If they happen to be feeding further up off the bottom then a longer leader can help lift the baits up further and keep them in the line of sight of the catfish. Many anglers also claim that the Santee Rig helps them with getting more bites and more aggressive bites. Foam Peg Floats or Cigar Floats are available from most fishing tackle stores and for an added twist you can use a slotted foam peg float. The slotted floats used with a Santee Rig allow you to quickly and easily add or remove floats or change floats when needed without having to cut knots or tie a new rig. The Santee Rig can be used for all species of catfish including blues, channels and flatheads and can be used for a variety of catfishing techniques including drift fishing or fishing on anchor. This is a very popular rig for catfishing in lakes, reservoirs and rivers especially for blue catfish anglers and is definitely a catfish rig you should try if you haven't already. To get more details on this rig go to the link below http://www.catfishedge.com/slip-sinker-rig/ To get more in depth information on other catfish rigs check out the other catfish rigs information on Catfish Edge at: http://www.catfishedge.com/category/catfish-rigs/ Follow us on social media at: http://instagram.com/catchcatfish https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge

Drift Sock 101: Boat Control For Drift Fishing

04:21
Drift fishing is a very effective way to catch blue catfish and channel catfish and this catfishing technique can be used to catch everything from smaller one to ten pound “box fish” to trophy class catfish. There’s a variety of drift fishing techniques for catfish used today beyond traditional drift fishing. They’re all the same in many ways but different typically in the way the rods are deployed and how the boat is moved across the water. Controlled drifting is a popular catfishing technique and there’s a variety of different ways to control drift for catfish. They’re again all relatively the same and the technique often is called different terms in different areas of the country. Drift fishing for catfish in its most basic form is traditional drift fishing where the angler uses the wind to move their catfish boat across the water to catch catfish. Anglers have been catching catfish this way for years and for good reason, it’s a great way to catch catfish. To be successful drift fishing for catfish you need to understand the fundamentals of the technique, have the right equipment and make sure you know how to use it. In this weeks catfishing video from Catfish Edge Chad Ferguson walks you through “Drift Socks 101” so you can get setup for success drift fishing for catfish. Drift socks are the foundation of traditional drift fishing. It’s essential to have a good drift sock (or maybe several good drift socks) and understand how to use them correctly. To be successful drifting for cats you’ll need to have good boat control techniques, be able to keep the right part of your catfish boat pointed into the wind and be able to keep the boat slowed down while your drifting and that’s where you’re drift sock comes in. Drift Sock 101 Covers * What a drift sock does and why it’s important * Common mistakes anglers make when buying drift socks * The drift sock harness and buoy, what they do and why you need them * How to make sure you’ve got the right size drift sock * Chad Ferguson’s favorite drift sock brands * Tips for drift fishing for catfish For more in depth information be sure to check out Drift Socks 101 on the Catfish Edge website at: http://www.catfishedge.com/drift-sock–101/ To get on the fast track to catching catfish using drift fishing techniques check out the Drift Fishing For Catfish eBook at: http://www.catfishedge.com/drift-fishing/ Make sure to like our video and subscribe to the Catfish Edge Youtube channel at: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=learntocatchcatfish Follow Chad Ferguson and Catfish Edge on Social Media at: http://instagram.com/catchcatfish https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish https://plus.google.com/b/100005235670931395108/+Catfishedge/ https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge Be on the lookout for more catfishing tips, tricks and information from Catfish Edge. Heavy Power Chad Ferguson Catfish Rod From Whisker Seeker Tackle

03:21
In 2014 I released the first in my Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod line from Whisker Seeker Tackle, the medium heavy two piece catfish rod and have since released the same medium heavy rod in a one piece model as well as a medium heavy spinning rod. I designed the original MH Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod to be a universal "do all" catfish rod that could fit the needs of any angler and would work for all species and techniques. The medium heavy catfish rod was built so it would be light and sensitive enough to fish for one to two point channel catfish fitnesse fishing with prepared bait but big and beefy enough that it could land monster trophy class catfish and everything in between. Following the release of the medium heavy model I finalized the testing of another rod in the Chad Ferguson Catfish Rod line from Whisker Seeker Tackle, the heavy power. Recognizing the need for a heavier catfish rod with a faster action I wanted to build something that was more targeting for trophy catfish anglers or those anglers who are targeting medium to large catfish exclusively but built on the same principles of the original medium heavy model. The goal was to build a catfish rod based on the original medium heavy design but to beef it up so it was geared towards landing monster catfish, throwing heavy sinkers and big baits for anglers that needed it but keep it light and sensitive so it could still be used for smaller catfish and so it was comfortable to hold for long extended periods of time when used for controlled drifting and bumping for big cats. After thorough testing a few revisions the heavy rod was born and has been a long time in the making. It adds another catfish rod to the Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod line from Whisker Seeker Tackle that's like no other rod on the market using on the latest cutting edge material and design and backed by an unprecedented warranty like no other in the industry. The heavy power rod is built on the same custom manufactured composite blank made of a mixture of s-glass, graphite and carbon fiber and features a one piece blank and a fast action so there's less bend through the rod bank and it's prepared to hoist monster cats up out of the deep when needed whether you're fishing for deep open water blue cats or pulling massive flatheads out of their timbered lairs the heavy power catfish rod has the strength and backbone to do it all. We've added titanium oxide line guides to all one piece rods (including the heavy power rod) and all rods feature the same custom built reel seats and composite cork handles that are like no others available. The heavy rod is backed by the same unprecedented trophy tough warranty as well that's second to none when it comes to catfish rods. Rods available now in the Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod from Whisker Seeker Tackle are: 7'6 2 Piece MH Moderate Fast Action Casting 7'6 1 Piece MH Moderate Fast Action Casting 7'6 1 Piece MH Moderate Fast Action Spinning 7'6 2 Piece H Fast Action Casting For more information visit: http://cfcatfishrod.com http://www.catfishedge.com/chad-ferguson-signature-series-catfish-rod/ http://whiskerseeker.com/rods/ If you have questions about fishing for catfish or about the catfish rods be sure to post them here or hit us up on twitter https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish Follow us on http://instagram.com/catchcatfish https://www.twitter.com/catchcatfish https://www.facebook.com/catfishedge Be sure to subscribe to the Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=learntocatchcatfish Visit Catfish Edge for more catfishing tips, tricks and information from Chad Ferguson and Catfish Edge http://www.catfishedge.com

Floatation Pods On Aluminum Catfish Boats

03:02
Aluminum boats are the most common boats for catfish anglers for a variety of reasons. I recently posted a video of my SeaArk ProCat 240 catfish boat covering the features of the boat and have since had a lot of questions about floatation pods on aluminum boats, what they do and why you might want floatation pods on your catfish boat or aluminum boat. In this weeks video Chad Ferguson of Catfish Edge goes in depth on floatation pods and covers the features and benefits of adding floatation pods to an aluminum boat and how they might help you in your quest to catch catfish. Gaspergou Catfish Bait [The Freshwater Drum]

02:14
A while back I mentioned using Gaspergou for catfish bait in a video and I was immediately bombarded with questions from people wanting to know what in the heck a Gaspergou was, who makes it and where you can buy it. Gaspergou is a freshwater drum. While they're often referred to simply as drum or freshwater drum in many parts of the country (like Texas and Louisiana) they’re called gaspergou or even just gou or gou fish. They have a very thick mucus covering and a very distinctive smell which make them a species that doesn’t get a lot of fishing pressure. There aren’t a lot of people (at least that I have found) that actually catch them on purpose. They're prized by many catfish anglers as the are considered by many to be an excellent bait for blue catfish, and are most often fished as cut bait. They can also very often be caught in cast nets ranging in size from a few inches long to very large fish weighing several pounds or more. Smaller drum are typically cut into sections and used as cut bait while the larger fish are typically filleted, and then cut into sections to be used as bait. How To Prepare a Cast Net For Catching Bait (Trim, Soak, Stretch)

05:54
If you're soaking your cast net in the washing machine you're doing it all wrong! A good cast net will do wonders for helping you catch more catfish by making sure you always have fresh bait. When you buy a cast net you can use it straight out of the box and it will work fine in most instances but doing a small amount of work up front to prepare or season your cast net will make a significant difference. Not only will the cast net be easier to throw but it will also open more fully and be easier to reset when you you retrieve the cast net and get ready to throw it again. Preparing your cast net is a very simple process that takes no time at all and is well worth the time it takes. If you have an older cast net that you've been using for a while this process will help as well and make a significant difference in how the net performs (especially if you have never soaked the cast net before). In this Catfish Edge video we walk you through everything you need to know about how to prepare a cast net covering all the steps from trimming the the line and areas to check, the best way to soak the cast net and how to stretch and dry it for the best success. SeaArk ProCat 240 Catfish Boat : 2016 Model Walkthrough (The Ultimate Catfish Rig)

06:01
I’ve been a member of the SeaArk Boats Pro Staff for two and a half years now and this is my second SeaArk ProCat 240. I’ve been fishing from the 2016 model SeaArk ProCat 240 since October/November of 2015 but am just now finally getting around to doing a video walkthrough of the 2016 SeaArk ProCat 240. In this video I’ll highlight some of the changes and additions to the 2016 SeaArk ProCat 240 that are different from the 2015 model as well as do a good general overview of this awesome catfish boat. The 2016 SeaArk ProCat 240 I’m fishing from now is an awesome rig and is fully decked out and loaded with every feature, accessory and upgrade that’s available on the boat including the SeaArk Cat Rack, the tournament package (includes a wash down pump, special graphics and livewell upgrades), a splash well and more. The biggest difference in the 2016 model from the 2015 model are the addition of the SeaArk ProCat Tournament Package, the addition of the rod lockers and storage boxes in front of the consoles, and the new redesigned consoles. You can check out the video of our 2015 model here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ4DUx9HwAQ SeaArk Boats of all models are very popular with catfish anglers. They build one of the toughest aluminum boats in the business and were the first company to build a catfish specific fishing boat, the SeaArk ProCat 200 and ProCat 240. The all welded aluminum hull that’s .125 gauge throughout is second to none. Many manufacturers claim to use .125 gauge aluminum to build their hulls but when you read the find print you find that it’s only the bottom of the hull or part of it. That’s not the case with SeaArk. There’s a ton of great features to the SeaArk ProCat 240 way too many to cover in this quick video or text but we’ve tried to cover the highlights of the SeaArk ProCat 240 here in this video. You can get even more details and see detailed photos on the Catfish Edge website at the link below or obviously check out the SeaArk Boats website as well. http://www.catfishedge.com/seaark-procat-240/ I’ll cover some specifics on the SeaArk ProCat 240 features in the future as well as tips on rigging a catfish boat, more in depth information and tips on the Humminbird Onix, Humminbird 360, Min Kota iPilot Link, Lakemaster maps, installing fishing rod holders for catfish and more. Be sure to keep an eye out for our other catfishing videos the remainder of 2016 as we’re catching catfish and filming from the SeaArk ProCat 240. How To Rig and Fish The Ultra Chub [Catfish Rigs - Whisker Seeker Tackle Ultra Chub]

03:43
The Ultra Chub is different from the other Whisker Seeker Tackle "Catfish Lures" as it's a hard bodied catfish lure with an integrated rattle. Being a hard body it lasts forever and is super durable. The true magic in this catfish rig is in the integrated rattle and the silver color. It's been my experience fishing with the Ultra Chub that when the fish bite the catfish bait on the Ultra Chub they absolutely HAMMER the baits. There's always days where color and presentation doesn't matter and the fish are hitting almost anything, regardless of catfish rig or color but on the days they're being "picky" the Ultra Chub has often been a clear winner. I've had a number of days while testing where 70-80% of the fish caught were caught on the Ultra Chub catfish rigs. In this weeks video I walk you through how to rig the Whisker Seeker Tackle Ultra Chub and how to fish with it! Versa Rattle 2 Catfish Rig Rattles [New]

04:08
In 2015 I released a product with Whisker Seeker Tackle called the Versa Rattle, a catfish rig rattle that can be used with any catfish rig in any configuration. I teamed up with Whisker Seeker Tackle on the Versa Rattle after extensive testing on how catfish respond to sound using their “catfish lures” like the X3 Rattler, XL Rattler and Stingers.. I found that there were times where sound and vibration made a significant difference in the number of catfish I’d catch and the size of catfish I’d catch and I was looking for a flexible option that could be used in any manner I wanted. Since the release of the original Versa Rattles anglers all over the country have had the same results I did, they’ve learned that catfish respond to sound and vibration. During the testing of the original Versa Rattles I tested two different designs. We were able to get the original Versa Rattle product on the market quickly but had planned to release two different rattles. The second, required significantly more work and it’s taken until late last year to get the bugs worked out and get them 100%. We’ve called this new Versa Rattle the Versa Rattle 2. The Versa Rattle 2 is yet another option to add sound and vibration to your catfish rigs. Just like the original rattles they can be used with virtually any catfish rig and can be used in a variety of ways and they’ll create sound, vibration and turbulence in the water. The big difference in the Versa Rattle and the Versa Rattle 2 is the size and shape. The original Versa Rattle has round chambers on either side of the rig rattle to make noise. The Versa Rattle 2 is designed like a propellor with internal chambers in the catfish rig rattle so as the rattle spins in the water it rattles, vibrates and puts off turbulence in the water. Be sure to watch the video to get more details and then head over to Catfish Edge for even more details. http://www.catfishedge.com/versa-rattle/ Get a special Mega Deal on the Versa Rattle 2 from Whisker Seeker Tackle from now until Friday May 12th at Midnight http://whiskerseeker.com/5-package-deal-catfish-rig-rattles-versa-rattles-2/ Buy your Versa Rattles from Whisker Seeker Tackle at http://whiskerseeker.com/catfish-rig-rattles-versa-rattles/ Watch the original Versa Rattle Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1Btgo0nTG0 How To Rig Versa Rattles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmrIFoa8dJA Make sure you subscribe to my channel http://www.youtube.com/user/LearnToCatchCatfish?sub_confirmation=1s Have questions, feedback or suggestions for more videos? The "Big Three" Types Of Catfish (and How To Identify Them) - Catfish Species Essentials

02:44
Blue catfish, channel catfish and flathead catfish are the three primary species of catfish in the United States and most sought after species. Most rivers lakes and reservoirs and the United States have populations of one of these species of catfish available in good numbers. Many anglers have a hard time identifying these different catfish species and mistake one for another but it's really not that difficult once you understand the few key items to look for you’ll never mistake one catfish species for another again. This week we walk you through how to identify blue catfish, channel catfish and flathead catfish, the easy ways to tell each catfish species apart and also how to quickly and easily tell the difference between blue catfish and channel catfish (which is a common mistake many anglers make). How To Fish Whisker Seeker Rattler Catfish Rigs

06:54
Catfish are a sophisticated fish. They’re often perceived as being on the “underbelly” of the fishing world, just bottom dwelling scavengers that explore the depths and eat whatever they can off the bottom. This couldn’t be further from the truth and they’re actually very sophisticated fish with senses that are far more advanced than most freshwater fish. They’ve got a highly sophisticated sense of hearing. They’ve got a heightened ability to detect vibration. Catfish can detect high frequencies at 13,000 cycles per second. Catfish even have such a supercharged ability to sense high frequencies they’re used for earthquake detection because they have the ability to sense vibrations that nothing else can. We know a lot about catfish but we’ve yet to scratch the surface when it comes to learning how these fish tick and using more advanced techniques for locating and catching catfish. I’ve spent a lot of time testing theories and new techniques over the past year and one of the things I’ve spent a lot of time on is how catfish respond to sound. I’ve had incredible results using the Whisker Seeker Tackle rattlers, the X3 Big Bertha Rattler and the XL Rattler and seen some interesting trends. I’ve been using these rattling catfish rigs in many of my recent videos and had lots of questions about them so I wanted to cover some more information on how to fish with the Whisker Seeker Tackle Rattlers. In this weeks catfishing video from Catfish Edge I cover all of the details on how to rig with Whisker Seeker Tackle X3 Big Bertha Rattler and the XL Rattler. This includes: -How the WST Rattlers are different than standard float rigs -How to rig the X3 Big Bertha and XL Rattler -Techniques for fishing the rattling catfish rigs -Which rigs to use with different sized baits Plus more details on how to catch catfish with these catfish lures and how to rig them. SeaArk ProCat 240 Catfish Boat: The Ultimate Catfish Rig

06:35
Late this summer I joined the SeaArk Boats Pro Staff. I sold my center console catfish boat I’d been fishing from years and ordered a new SeaArk ProCat 240 Catfish Boat that I picked up in October. After spending some time rigging the boat, installing electronics, sonar, rod holders and other accessories I was back up and running and fishing again. Luckily I had everything ready just in time to start catching some monster trophy blue catfish this fall and winter. SeaArk Boats of all models are very popular with catfish anglers. You can get even more details and see detailed photos on the Catfish Edge website at the link below or obviously check out the SeaArk Boats website as well. http://www.catfishedge.com/seaark-procat-240/ I’ll cover some specifics of the SeaArk ProCat 240 features in the future as well as tips on rigging a catfish boat, more in depth information and tips on the Humminbird Onix, Humminbird 360, Min Kota iPilot Link, Lakemaster maps, installing fishing rod holders for catfish and more. Be sure to keep an eye out for our other catfishing videos the remainder of this year and throughout 2015 as we’re catching catfish and filming from the SeaArk ProCat 240. How To Burp a Catfish [Plus The Right Way To Do It]

05:43
Practicing catch and release of trophy class catfish is important to protect the sport. It can take decades for a catfish to reach larger trophy sizes and they're not easily replaced. There's an ever growing number of anglers who solely fish for catch and release purposes, especially for trophy class catfish. Unfortunately years of misunderstanding and misinformation is passed on to them and many are doing harm in their valiant efforts to protect the fish they love to catch. Many fish suffer from issues when they're caught in deep water. The act of pulling them up rapidly from their deep water lairs combined with basic laws of physics causes their air bladders or swim bladders to blow up and expand. if not handled appropriately they'll die when released and if the air is not released the right way you can easily damage a catfish important internal organs in the process. Burping a catfish is what the technique is commonly called by anglers but it's simply a process of releasing air from the air bladder that's created from pulling the fish up too quickly. In this weeks catfishing video Chad Ferguson from Catfish Edge walks you through how to burp a catfish or the process of burping a catfish. You'll learn: How to tell when a catfish might need to be burped. The signs to look for. How to keep it from happening. Several ways to burp or release the air from catfish. Why you shouldn't use a PVC pipe or plastic tube. How to tell when the air has been released. More important catfish conservation facts. Catfish Rod Types and S-Glass Composite Catfish Rods

05:54
E-Glass, S-Glass, Graphite and More! Catfish rods are what gets the business done when it comes to landing fish and having the right rod can make or break your success catching catfish whether you're after numbers of smaller fish or the next world record catfish. In this weeks catfishing video from Catfish Edge we take a closer look at the different types of catfish rods and my Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod from Whisker Seeker Tackle and what s-glass composite means. This is just a primer of the types of rod blanks used for catfishing. For much more in depth information check out the Ultimate Guide To Catfish Rods at the link below. http://www.catfishedge.com/catfish-rods/ There's three main types of fishing rods for catfish, e-glass, s-glass and graphite. In addition to these there's some variations of each that involve composites or mixtures of one of these materials with something else. E-glass catfishing rods have been around for a long time and are very common. E-glass is a fiberglass material that holds up well under pressure, it's strong and bends well and will hold up to big catfish but it's also heavy and lacks sensitivity. S-glass is similar to e-glass in many ways and is used in a few catfish rods but not near as many as e-glass. S-glass is a higher modulus material than e-glass which means that it's stronger. In addition to being stronger it's also more sensitive and lighter weight. Graphite is used in many fishing rods. Most lighter weight fishing rods are graphite rods as they're light to hold and very sensitive. The problem with graphite is it's not strong and durable like e-glass and s-glass so it won't take the abuse the traditional catfish rods will, especially with a big catfish pulling on them. So these are the three main types of catfish rods. This past June I released a fishing rod for catfish, the Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod from Whisker Seeker Tackle and it's an s-glass composite catfish rod. You can get more information on my Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod from Whisker Seeker Tackle through the links below: http://www.catfishedge.com/rod/ http://whiskerseeker.com/catfish-rod-chad-ferguson-signature-series/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wlqH_rROx4 Many people have asked what s-glass composite means when they see it on the rod blank of my signature series rods so I wanted to cover that also. The s-glass composite is exactly as it sounds. The rod blank on the Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod from Whisker Seeker Tackle is made from s-glass which is again the superior material to e-glass. The "composite" comes from the mixture of additional materials which is graphite. The rod blank on my signature series rods from Whisker Seeker are a mixture of s-glass and graphite so you get the best of both worlds. They're actually 80% s-glass and 20% graphite. You get the strength and durability of s-glass and then the graphite helps with a couple of things. The graphite reduces the weight of the rod blank so it's lighter and more comfortable to hold and it also makes the blank much more sensitive than a traditional catfish rod. That's why the rod doesn't feel like other catfish rods on the market and why it's so tough and sensitive because of the combination of the s-glass and graphite that are used in the rod blank. Catfish Tackle Box - The "Working" Tackle Box

02:17
http://www.catfishedge.com - One of the great things about fishing for catfish is the simplicity of the tackle and gear required. Even though it is simple catfish tackle can become overly complicated and cumbersome if you are not organized. One way of doing this is by using a "working tackle box" or a small box with just the essentials for organization and ease of use. In this Catfishing Quick Tip video we discuss the working tackle box, catfish tackle for blue catfish and channel catfish, and staying organized.

Blue Catfish Fail (Why I Use Fish Grips)

02:35
While filming some video clips using the Lockjaw Catfish Grips I built with Whisker Seeker Tackle I was handling the blue catfish with my hands and in the process managed to capture on film showing EXACTLY why I use fish grips for handling big blue catfish. This fish decided to chomp down on my hand and do a death roll with my fingers in it's mouth (taking all of the bark off my hand). It's pretty funny (I had to edit a few words out) so I thought I'd share it with you guys!
